Morning all! Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and santa was generous Xmas Smile
We had a fab day at my parents and managed to avoid popping into mils so it wasn't quite as manic as I thought it was going to be.
Ds seemed to have a fully recharged his batteries overnight and was raring to go at 6am again yawn
Can't put it off anymore so off to mils for lunch later so have a good day everyone Xmas Smile

Ilovelblue · 26/12/2016 15:01

Happy Boxing Day everyone. Did we all survive the Big Day yesterday? No cooking disasters or weird presents?

It's my turn to cook today and I need to wash all my plates and bowls which only come out for Christmas and New Year.

I think I'm starting with a cold. Sad

Alwaysfrank · 27/12/2016 07:22

Belated Merry Christmas one and all! We are now half way to the Alps for a week of skiing with no wifi and not much snow either! Could be interesting....as the proud owner of 4 teenagers (well for a few more days till the eldest turns 20), how will they cope?!

Ilovelblue · 27/12/2016 22:08

Very quiet on here today again.

Always that sounds a lovely getaway. I don't ski so the lack of snow wouldn't worry me but yes, it could be difficult for a skiing holiday! Enjoy it anyway, with or without wifi!

Had a trip into Manchester today for what used to be the first day of the sales but these days, the sales have been on for a few days at least. It was ok until about 2pm when my friend and I both started to lose the will to live and we came home on the 3pm train. I treated myself to some perfume I'd been thinking about for a while but the rest of the shopping was either for birthday presents early in the New Year or odds and ends to store for emergency presents (I hate to be caught out).

I have a doctor's appointment first thing tomorrow then going to see my friends' new house but he has been ill and so I need to ring tomorrow morning to see if they still want a visitor. It doesn't help that I am in the middle of a streaming cold. Why does it always happen at Christmas??

What has everyone else been doing today?

pixieg1rl · 28/12/2016 10:37

Back at work for a few days before I'm off for New Year.

Survived Christmas at MIL's and Boxing Day with right wing brother. MrP and I even had a night away from DS (he was having a sleepover with his cousins). MrP kept me awake half the night with his drunken snoring 🙄

Richtea19 · 28/12/2016 13:35

I'm not back at work until next tues don't know what day that is I'm completely lost! I have got into my new habit of quality street at breakfast, wine at 12.00 with lunch! Help for me in the new year!

We have some friends over for diner tonight, and I'm going to make Thai prawn curry and give our stomachs a rest from pickles.

Hope work is ok pix and ilove how did you get on in the sales?

Nickel45 · 28/12/2016 16:36

Loving your new eating plan, rich :) Sounds perfectly reasonable to me!
I am back in work today - it's lovely! Quiet, calm, no arguing .... DH has the kids, so he'll be completely knackered by the time I get back. Just wondering how late I can be Wink!

Ilovelblue · 28/12/2016 22:38

I'm back at work next Tuesday so this is a nice break but not great to be smothered in cold! Embarrassingly, I ended up with a nosebleed in the middle of the restaurant yesterday lunchtime. It must just have been all the noseblowing I suppose. I had another one back home last night too!

We had a good time at the sales Rich, despite my cold but it was tiring and we were glad to come home on the train. I've no intention of doing a day's city shopping for quite some time after that, thank you!

I had to go to the doctors this morning as I appear to have an abnormal result in a blood test. Looks as if I have to have some more blood tests over the next couple of weeks. There's always something to worry about!

I'm off to bed now. Night everyone!

Rhubarb01 · 29/12/2016 20:42

Evening. Popping in after a few days absence to say hello. Back at work today but it wasn't too bad.

Christmas went off ok although I had a house full all day on Tuesday and was on the go from the crack of dawn until about 9pm but at least I felt as if I had done my bit feeding the fifty thousand this Christmas but I was worn out and glad of the extra day off on Wednesday.

Hope you're feeling a bit better Ilove.

Not much else to report at the moment. It's always a bit weird in the lull between Christmas and New Year. I always wish that there were some more traditions associated with the twelve days of Christmas so that there was something else to plan for or do that would be fun - not too much though. I could only cope with so much food or presents at one time. One of these years I'm going to take myself off somewhere else for the entire period from 24th December to about 2nd January, be royally entertained and fed and not lift a finger - in my dreams!

Rhubarb01 · 29/12/2016 20:46

I'm going to try watching the Bronte Sisters drama at 9pm - my knowledge of the Bronte sisters is entirely based on an item in a Blue Peter Annual circa 1976 so I feel I know the story already Grin

Ilovelblue · 29/12/2016 22:45

Rhu you made me laugh when you said you wanted to disappear over Christmas and be entertained. An ex-colleague of mine moans every year about Christmas - she camps out with her sister and family so her contribution if I recall was to bring some ready peeled sprouts and to chop a few carrots and that seemed to be too much like hard work for her. She kept saying one year she was going to go somewhere hot on her own and be waited on. Sure enough, she did it and took a 3 week cruise round South America. I found out about a year later that she extended her mortgage in order to do it.

Blue Peter was very useful. Before I went to Vienna last year, my entire knowledge of the city was based on Valerie Singleton's special assignments she used to do!

My cold is on the wane now I think and I spent most of the afternoon outside where it was cold and clear so not even much nose blowing. Why are there so many colds around at Christmas, just when we want to enjoy the time off work?

It's very, very quiet on here this week. People must be doing some very exciting things??

Rhubarb01 · 29/12/2016 23:26

Well, the Bronte Sister's drama was just like my memories of that Blue Peter Annual Confused although with a few extras such as Branwell's alcoholism and forays into debauchery - I think John Noakes, Peter Purves and Valerie Singleton may have just glossed over those bits. Actually, I nodded off in the middle so I don't think it was probably as riveting as I was hoping.

ilove if I ever manage to escape Christmas I think I'd have to go somewhere snowy - I do like Christmas but I just don't want to have to do anything. Perhaps we should be able to do a Margot Leadbetter and just have Christmas 'delivered'.

MaddieMoo82 · 30/12/2016 08:04

Morning all.
Nothing exciting here ilove just lots of work unfortunately. It's been a bit rubbish to be honest as i isn't realise up until a few weeks ago that the nursery was closed between Christmas and new year so have had to organise childcare, which has basically involved ds being passed around all over the place the last few days bless him! Properly feeling guilty about it!
Ah well. Discussion in the staff room about adding bashed up mince pies into porridge... yummy! Beats my boring porridge.
Have a good day all.... it's nearly 2017 Shock

icemistOBE · 30/12/2016 10:58

Morning.
Hope everyone is good. Had a lovely time in Ireland with my family.

Slowly getting back to reality now. Eldest asking to take down decorations already so we agreed on Monday Grin

Evening. Been a strange sort of day. I went out with my friend whose father has cancer today and who I believe won't last too long as it's a secondary cancer which has now spread further. I hope I am a sympathetic person as after all, I have lost both my parents but she's not being very realistic and her mother is - I hate to say this - putting her finances above her father's comforts when he needs them the most. It's been hard to keep my mouth firmly closed and just nod in the right places.

I came home to find a letter from my elderly aunt who lives in another country and she tells me my cousin's son (her grandson) who is a lot younger than me and who I've often suspected is on drugs and/or is schizophrenic, was found dead in his rented flat. They have just had the funeral. She must think I'm so unsympathetic not to have contacted her but I think the letter probably got held up with the Christmas post etc.

Rhu have you ever been to Haworth where the Brontes lived? It's quite easily accessible from this part of the country but I've only been the once. I imagine in the 19th century it was an even more depresing place than it was when I visited about 20 years ago and it's no wonder the whole family were screwed up. Wasn't Branwell a drug addict of his time as well as alcoholic?

ice nice to have you back again. I am sure you enjoyed the time with your Mum. You have some lovely photos I saw on Facebook to look back on.

Night all.

Happy New Year to you all. Best wishes and good health for 2017

Hopefully goodbye to my week old cold, frayed nose and lip!!! Luckily only an extreme head cold so didn't ruin Christmas altogether. Everyone fed up of the sneezing and nose blowing though. Nobody else got it so not all bad 🤧
Welcome 2017 and Our Girl 3.
