I've seen an advert that says it returns in November, anyone know what date?

Really looking forward to its return! Anyone else?

I want Alison and Cole to get back together

Helen has become increasingly annoying and I just have no interest to what happens to Noah

don't understand where the writers are going with the story is it a moral tale having an affair is wrong and look what will happen you shall be punished

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 10/01/2017 08:29

The different perspectives on the sex was odd. I'd have thought that Helen would have perceived it as being rough or more and Noah would have seen himself as doing nothing wrong, but then he was trying to prove Helen doesn't know him.

I remember reading after the first series ended and I was looking to see if it had been renewed, the writer of the show said that it didn't pay off till season 3, so this was always the 'plan' for the story and characters

EachandEveryone · 10/01/2017 09:39

Well I'm not looking forward to season 4. Will there even be one?

MrsJW15 · 10/01/2017 11:40

It was quite a slow mover last night, not sure we got much in terms of plot development. The different sex perspectives was quite weird, can't quite figure that out.

BoxingHelena · 10/01/2017 12:24

on the bright side
Cole overdue so we should get a double bill of him next week ;-)

SoDownSoGone · 10/01/2017 14:21

Just caught up with it. He's deffo hallucinating. How on earth helen got rid of Vic? Furkat is good comedy how random is he? Did Helen put a cold jar of tomato sauce in the spaghetti? I also can't stand all the darkness. Noah is annoying me. He's totally unattractive and Helen's pouting? Totally confused about the sex.

TreeTop7 · 10/01/2017 20:53

Series 4 has been commissioned. Sarah Treem, its writer/creator, has confirmed that she wants S4 to be the last, though.

I love The Affair though know no one who watches it, so finding this thread is good.

I find Noah fascinating, and basically how all the characters are so rounded - with flaws and weaknesses and high and low points. Love how the writers have taken it from a standard affair story (though always had no interest in the crime element) into real psychological study. Also LOVE the two perspectives each episode.

Can't wait to see what happens.

ClaudiaNaughton · 10/01/2017 21:46

Helen needs a sassy haircut. She's looking too old (no wonder) for her current crop.

wattson · 10/01/2017 22:00

I haven't read the full thread, just drifting in now I'm all caught up.. is it just me or is Noah seeming more and more 'rapey' over time?

In one sense I hate watching those scenes, but in another it sort of shows the weird blurred boundaries over how consensual sex can turn into sexual violence, the different levels of sexual violence and coercion that take place in relationships etc., not to mention with the different view points. It is so far from the 'dark alley' stereotypes that it catches my attention and makes me think.

Interesting that Noah's perspective was the more violent/non-consensual than Helen's. You'd expect it to be the other way around, but in a strange way, it is quite fitting to reality, I think. Despite some victims of sexual violence being able to name what happened to them and recognise it as sexual violence, many struggle with this internally regardless.. try to normalise it, minimise it, dismiss it, anything to try to manage it. Whereas many offenders will deny out loud that they offended sexually, but they know exactly what happened, and once they are in the right situation (i.e. In therapy after being convicted!) they will often own that and are able to describe exactly what they did, and how and why they did it. So in my opinion it actually makes some sense even though it seems backwards at first.

TheNorthRemembers · 10/01/2017 22:05

Wow! Noah is so hallucinating. Noone would ever say the things Helen said to him.

TheNorthRemembers · 10/01/2017 22:07

We have only seen the Helen version up to "I know you", so her version might be rape as well.

EachandEveryone · 10/01/2017 22:58

Its been a constant theme thoughout this season but also before. Remember Alison against the tree?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 10/01/2017 23:29

I took the sex scenes to be about what they feel. Helen is still in love with Noah and wants him to love her

Noah doesn't love Helen anymore and resents her (which I think he had done long before Alison came along)

Her view the sex was connecting his was just a relief

I think we shall find out Alison is pregnant. Did she has sex with Noah ?

EachandEveryone · 11/01/2017 07:01

No idea but that would be just going in circles

I just feel like I need to start what I've finished. Much prefer the Cole & Alison story line. Find Noah & Helen irritating.

EachandEveryone · 11/01/2017 12:13

Yes I'm counting the episodes down. It's been a huge disappointment.

pennyscrayons · 11/01/2017 13:20

I've really enjoyed this series. Am I in the minority? Just a bit darker. Agree that there should be more Cole (swoon) and Alison. Helen is being odd and more annoying but all in all think it's been good. Although my memory of series 2 is vague and so I may have missed things!

Ladytron11 · 11/01/2017 13:51

SoDown
Helen microwaved that jar of sauce and then poured it over the bowl of spaghetti.
Et viola! Dinner is served.
"Go to your rooms!" Grrh - the kids were still eating! Really annoys me.

Shame Vic has gone - he was the only sensible one in it.

SoDownSoGone · 11/01/2017 14:35

I missed the microwaving.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2017 18:52

I can't work out what is real or not

TheNorthRemembers · 12/01/2017 14:35

I can't see the point of this season, but if they plan a new series, someone will die by that missing knife. I assume either Witney or Furcat.

EachandEveryone · 12/01/2017 15:11

I didnt realise shes such a diverse actor. I might go. www.theguardian.com/stage/2016/dec/18/hedda-gabler-ruth-wilson-observer-review
