Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

Yes to Press Guy being involved in telling a lie re the DNA - the testing seemed to be done really quickly and Eve only found out in a phone call, never got written evidence of it. Yes to 'buying two of everything' being significant. I think Brig doesn't remember Eve's birth because she isn't his, he 'stole' her as a baby which Drilla and Henry knew about and covered up. Maybe Brigs wife had twins and one died so that's why he buys two of everything? Stole/kidnapped baby Eve to replace twin? Drilla told Alice/Sophie that's why she said 'after what you've done' to Brig. Have I gone totally off piste? Think that Nadia not involved but so horrible when in service Drilla wanted husband Hertz locked up as revenge.

Eve being a surrogate explains all the scan pictures. You have more scans during any infertility treatment so they'll be earlier than usual ones and extra ones because she had a placenta problem. I was wondering about those but going to chalk that question down as answered. Not sure why they chose to do that with that character though. Could still be a clue or maybe just part of the mothers/babies/loss theme.

EnidButton · 10/11/2016 14:26

there will not they'll

EnidButton · 10/11/2016 14:32

I think he couldn't remember her birth as his dementia was starting to worsen at that time. You could see him trying to grasp the memories.

GrumbleBumble · 10/11/2016 14:41

Enid I'm guessing it was a - to give a quick visual difference between 2014 and 2016 as shebid often in uniform with a beret on a hair cut change wouldn't cut it b - adds to themes of loss, missing girls (eg she is missing the child she carried even though its nor hers) identity etc and c - gave a few red herrings did the baby die? If not where is it.

Some asked why Gemma didn't show Sam the picture of Alice and Sophie. Early on before she found thr girls she said to Baptiste that her family would think she was mad so she waited until she had something to show. By the time she found the picture of the girls she knew Sam was shagging Eve so the relationship was under strain.

deadringer · 10/11/2016 15:17

I think if eve was a stolen child the brig would have a birth story in place, i imagine he is the sort to dot every i and cross every t.

LarkDescending · 10/11/2016 15:58

If last week is anything to go by, the Ep 6 trailer will be first shown at 9pm this evening, just before The Apprentice.

Stormsurfer · 10/11/2016 16:28

So happy I've found this thread. I've been struggling to work it out and now I find I'm not the only one!

Anybody else wonder why Sam told Gemma they couldn't afford the plastic surgery when the dr said it would be free?

Elendon · 10/11/2016 16:31

What a shocking conclusion last night, though when the most gorgeous and lovely police man rang the bell twice, I knew something bad was going to happen and screamed - no! don't go in - at that point. I had my doubts about the press officer, especially after the French reporter came to speak (was very suspicious about that).

I've had a low placenta, though it resolved enough to have a natural birth, and I was scanned a lot. Well done to those who said it was surrogate - I had a terrible feeling the baby wouldn't survive.

And so we know that the person in the shed was not Alice/Sophie and definitely not Lena. Alice/Sophie is in Switzerland in the present day but has a person interested in her (that waiter better watch his back!)

There is a bad man with a small child in his house (chilling stuff, and obviously it's Alice/Sophies')

I think that the DNA results were rigged. What happened to that little girl in Iraq Sad.

I hope the polizia man left details or a trail of where he was going. The whole thing is chilling and the conclusion last night left me speechless and most upset.

Elendon · 10/11/2016 16:33

I think Sam just wants to get out of Germany and back to England.

When Baptiste was talking to Eve, I suspect Eve knew something about her dad. She knows I thought, she knows something.

GrumbleBumble · 10/11/2016 16:54

Elendon I thought that - maybe he has said something due to his dementia - maybe something that Eve ignored or dismissed as rambling but when Baptiste spoke to her it all clicked into place and she realised that he has done something awful.

MadeForThis · 10/11/2016 16:55

What if Sophie was never kidnapped. She ran away with driller. She was pregnant but lost the baby.
Maybe helped driller kidnap Alice and Lena.
To get Alice pregnant to replace her lost baby.

MadeForThis · 10/11/2016 16:55

If the brig kidnapped eve how do we explain her sister?

rainbowstardrops · 10/11/2016 16:58

I am so glad that I've found this thread!

Love, love, love this programme but I'm just so confused!!!

I must be thick as shit because I didn't pick up in the surrogacy or driller man. Had to watch that bit with my hands over my eyes! Shock

Fiderer · 10/11/2016 17:01

TheSpottedZebra "Right, so in the cold light of day, and after reading few synopses and reviews of that episode, there appears to be no mention of the Foot of Fire. So I am willing to concede that I am wrong. But that they are swines for burning leg-shaped logs."

First laugh I've had all week Grin

Can someone remind me where Gemma got the rollercoaster photo?

Kr1stina · 10/11/2016 17:04

Re plastic surgery - I think Sam doesn't want it because he feels guilty and this is some kind of punishment . Or maybe just for the practical reason that he can't face a lot of operations and pain on the graft sites.

Isn't one of the purposes of the scars to distinguish between then and now? Like Gemma's hair and eves bump .

Kr1stina · 10/11/2016 17:15

Gemma spent hours looking at them online, after fake Alice described having visited there with her captor

AnthonyPandy · 10/11/2016 17:24

Re the free operation, the doctor said his skin would be as good as new and Sam said so back to how I was before then. Or words to that effect. So I think he wanted a visual/physical reminder that he is not that person, life for him has changed and he is now different.

Fiderer · 10/11/2016 17:30

Thanks Kr1stina

MorrisZapp · 10/11/2016 17:32

If it wasn't Alice in the shed, how the hell did she escape and get another girl in there?

Can't beleive the throwaway comment about the Brig buying two of everything. Thought I'd missed a scene with him going round Markies, chucking twin packs of everything into his basket and cackling wildly.

Elendon · 10/11/2016 17:36

I think Eve is deluding herself over the pregnancy and is more invested in the relationship between her and Sam than she lets on. It would be tragic for her if she was pregnant and then had to share custody of the child (which I suspect has happened with Baptiste and his wife - still pondering over why they have a teenager in the house).

Anyway, tightly written script and great acting. A* all round.

NoelHeadbands · 10/11/2016 17:39

If Alice/Sophie isn't as innocent as we thought, perhaps the significance of her saying to Brig

"I don't know how you live with yourself"

(or whatever the hell it was she said) has a different meaning ie he has called time on their nefarious agreement

Or summat.

Feck I'm confused.

Fiderer · 10/11/2016 17:41

The locking in the shed was planned, to have "Alice" declared dead. Appealing to her "brother", his accepting she was used to that although it was grim.

Someone planned it, helped her.

I'm still distraught at no Baptiste/Jorn series

Elendon · 10/11/2016 17:45

Morris perhaps the lock wasn't working after all and Sophie and driller man placed the already dead body of Alice in the shed. Then burnt it.

Or, just could be, that her 'Dad', Sam was in on the Iraq thing. - clutching at straws -

Sophie has a conscience though. She knew that Henry was being blackmailed and was murdered. She knew that the butcher was innocent. But in order to survive she has a script to go by. I'm intrigued about the burning of the glasses and the burning of a dead body. This is someone who can never wipe the slate clean, she has indeed been 'taken'.

Elendon · 10/11/2016 18:02

I think that Henry released Sophie, this was discovered by driller man and hence his execution. Still can't get over 'I told you to stay upstairs, sweetie'.

Remember, Baptiste has a brain tumour. This will impact on his memory. And with that I'm off.

Will continue to check in and read.
