Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

Ah Margot, knew it was a pp beginning with M but couldn't remember your name.

I think with another 3 episodes, there is still a lot to come out.

I wonder if we are expected to think driller is the third person from Iraq, but it's actually Nadia or Sam (instinct says Nadia, but then Sam would be more of a shock twist). Maybe it was both of those 2 and not Henry at all (other than the payments to Iraq, everything else points to him being nice - maybe he was just a witness?).

I know the drilling suggests driller is a bit of an evil shit, but maybe he initially took the girls to protect them and the drilling was a twisted was to protect his "family"? Maybe he also knew Sophie's family and saw she was being abused; knew what happened in Iraq and saw Brig grooming/ abusing Alice; saw Lena being abused by family??? Perhaps body in shed (i'm leaning towards Lena) died naturally/ by accident and they used the appendicitis as an opportunity to get rid of the body and give Alice's parents some closure (as they weren't her abusers unlike the other 2 families?).

No idea where the flowers on Henry's grave would come into it though.

Blimey- I'm finding the posts here even more confusing than watching the programme! Some of you are seeing things in it that hadn't even crossed my mind! Talk about confusing!!!!

One question only- the surrogate child. Did the red cap get PG on purpose with Sam, intentionally as a surrogate, or is he not the father?

TobleroneBoo · 10/11/2016 08:24

Do we think Brig actually has Dementia or not?
I thought he was playing at it once Alice reappeared to avoid any repercussions on him.
Now I think it's real, as he is saying stuff that would implicate him, such as " I can't believe what the three of us did to the poor girl" or something along those lines

GrumbleBumble · 10/11/2016 08:28

polly Eve has just said she is pregnant in 2016 we assume by Sam (as she told him). There is nothing to suggest they were at it in 2014. As she was a surrogate and talked about knowing what she was getting into I assume it was deliberate. Probably her bil's sperm and may be even her sister's egg if the sister can conceive but can't carry to term.

PollyPerky · 10/11/2016 08:37

Thanks. I had missed the fact that when she told him it was 2016.

Bombaybunty · 10/11/2016 08:45

My poor husband is really struggling with this programme.
The flashbacks are confusing him so much!!!

Dulra · 10/11/2016 08:47

Aaagh was out last night so missed it just marking my place may not get a chance to catch up on episode until Saturday. Was tempted to pull a sicky this morning to watch it Grin.

NotPennysBoat · 10/11/2016 08:54

Wow, what an ending! Cannot wait for next week!
I think DH is starting to get pissed off at my Mumsnet commentary now... "Oooh, Mumsnet called that!", "Oh dear, I bet Mumsnet will have something to say about that pegging washing disaster!" Grin

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/11/2016 08:55

Given up now.

Can someone tell me if Drill Man is Cawood's ex from Happy Valley?

MoonfaceAndSilky · 10/11/2016 09:00

Has anyone mentioned the throw away comment about the Brig buying two of everything if he likes it? Eve said it whilst unpacking his clothes

Didn't even think anything of that, when she said it, but now you mention it I think it is relevant I'm too thick to think why though

ArmySal · 10/11/2016 09:01

Yes it is, absolutely.

I don't think there was a body burning in the fire. What did Eve mean in a previous episode when she said to Sam he doesn't want to talk about the baby? Has she been pregnant to him before?

GrumbleBumble · 10/11/2016 09:17

Armysal I think she probably wants to talk about the sisters baby. Even if its not biologically hers she carried her and birthed her and probably stuggled after giving her away.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 10/11/2016 09:19

Good call on the surrogacy.

I don't think it was a body in the swiss cabin though.

ewanthedreamsheep · 10/11/2016 09:21

yes absolutely he was the ex husband from happy valley, that's what i know him from.

ewanthedreamsheep · 10/11/2016 09:22

Oh and he was in The Village as well; had a thing with Maxine Peak's character

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2016 09:41

Right, so I'm the cold light of day, and after reading few synopses and reviews of that episode, there appears to be jo mention of the Foot of Fire.

So I am willing to concede that I am wrong. But that they are swines for burning leg-shaped logs.

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2016 09:50

did she want the other girls out of the way so she and the press officer could be together with their child as a family?

This I think. Drilla said he was clearing out as he was retiring soon, so I think that somehow, him, FakeAlice and small child are off to be a new family. But FakeAlice is going ahead, clearing the decks so to speak. There still must have Ben someone else in the van, or shed have kept the keys with her. I reckon she's going to kill her dad next...

So Drilla 'fell in love with' FakeAlice whilst she was held?

I still think Henry is good-ish and not one of the 3.

ArmySal · 10/11/2016 09:51

Aah yes, Grumble, I suppose as a "keep the relationship about just sex, no feelings mentioned".

I don't think Sam has any involvement in any of the kidnappings, and I think it's a bit of a leap to presume he fathered any of the other girls. I think it was definitely the body of the original Alice who was burned, and it was Sophie who returned.

I'm also surprised German police man didn't scream Sad

angryangryyoungwoman · 10/11/2016 10:02

It would have been easy for the press officer to swap his or someone else's dna for alices dad's....

TalkingSheds · 10/11/2016 10:07

Ok we know there are 3 people involved, the Brig was revealed early on. We thought Henry Reed was the second, but he's into trans not young girls so I think he knows what went on in Iraq and was being blackmailed.
Last night the press guy was revealed as the second person. We've 3 episodes left to find out the third.

Some loose ends were tied up last night, Eves surrogacy and why Henry Reeds son thought he was disgusting ( possibly? In his mind)

ArmySal · 10/11/2016 10:10

Press officer wouldn't have been involved in the DNA processing/handling, though, or the Brig, which is why I'd find it a stretch if it transpires there's been any meddling with the samples or results.

Vistaverde · 10/11/2016 11:02

Sorry, I haven't read all the thread but what do others think Sophie's connection with Alice and Lena is? Could her dad have been in the army and knew the Scottish bloke too?

Wellthatsit · 10/11/2016 11:08

I don't think anyone has me too ed that Sophie in Switzerland say "I am taken" when the cafe waiter asks her out for a drink.

Wellthatsit · 10/11/2016 11:08

mentioned

deadringer · 10/11/2016 11:16

I love this programme and i am really really enjoying this thread. I am clueless so don't have much to contribute. But, i think Sophie escaped, they seem pretty influential so I think they could have got her medical help without risking letting her go. I think Alice died and Sophie put her in the shed to give the parents closure and aid her own escape. I think the little girl is Sophie's so while they have her she can't point the finger at anyone. I don't think she is waiting in Switzerland for press guy and dd, its been two years since she left, but i havent a clue what's going on or where Lena might be. I hope Sam isn't involved, my gut says he's not. Sorry for the ramble, i am so excited to be able to discuss this!
