I think they should show Training Montages complete with Training Montage music instead of the VTs.

ZuleikaDobson · 16/10/2016 11:11

It's quite tough on people like Louise, Claudia and probably Greg and Will (when he was in) that in another year they would easily be the best.

Marbleheadjohnson · 16/10/2016 11:12

Yea, Laura gets on board with the cringey VTs and acts them woth good grace, I can only applaud her for that. I'd be more like Naga when she was visibly cringing when they made her tango through Tescos on her VT last week. I wish they'd just go back to showing training footage instead of wasting time at Wembley/an aquarium/the supermarket for some very tenuous reason!

I do like the "today I'm learning the foxtrot, so I've brought my nanna and granddad along" type VTs though, they always warm my heart.

JennyHolzersGhost · 16/10/2016 11:34

Agree re training footage. The stunts are dull and unnecessary.

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2016 11:44

I agree Marblehead Though the stupidity of those VTs is probably down to the producers thinking "this is a 'family' show let's talk down to everyone make it fine for the children".

I loved the way Robert Rinder showed his disgust at the music they had to dance to, he no doubt hated being dressed up in the lederhosen too, surely there would be discussion about it?
TimTamTerrier · 16/10/2016 11:58

I've re-watched all the dances now, and I think that Daisy's rumba was better than I originally thought. It was a bit dull the first time I watched it and I really think it could have been improved with a bit more drama and chemistry between the two of them. In Brendan and Anastacia's rumba the technical bits weren't as good but both of them had their attention entirely focused on each other, Daisy and Aljaz looked as though they had just met for the first time 10 mins before the dance began. Aljaz wasn't even looking at her for most of the dance, and when he was looking at her it was very disinterested, just a teacher keeping an eye on his student. I think if her dress had been a skimpy one with a floaty layer over the top, instead of that skintight heavy fabric with a ridiculous frill, and if he had been looking at her to suit the song (like a man who has lost the love of his life because of one stupid impulse) then it would have been a good rumba instead of a dull one.

I think it's a bit unfair of the judges to imply that Rinder needs to stop the silliness when it's clear that the producers have cast him firmly in the 'comedy' role with that atrocious music and hideous costumes.

Please God, let Ed go out tonight. That Paso was painful, both figuratively to watch and, I suspect, literally for Katya to dance.

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2016 13:00

What I though very interesting is that Danny dropped his attempt at being 'one of the lads' act by saying his ambition was always to dance like Fred Astaire in Top Hat Grin .

I liked him more for it but I doubt if all his Hollyoaks fans would understand Hmm It was a very good dance indeed.

StrictlyPan · 16/10/2016 13:09

Do we really think that Danny deliberately left the door fly into Oti? Or was it that he was so pumped that he didn't realise the force he used on the door and that it would spring back so quickly.

but on Sat there was v v little contact off the floor between them despite being so good.

Agree about the VTs where they spend a poss full day of training going to some tenuously linked venue.

ppeatfruit · 16/10/2016 13:21

StrictlyPan It's better than drooling over each though isn't it? Their respective partners are no doubt happier Grin It's good that they can dance so well without the 'chemistry' the judges call for.

If you think about it, it's as if they agree with the marriage wrecking that CAN occur. Hmm

Marbleheadjohnson · 16/10/2016 13:26

I get the impression both Natalie and Oti are equally thrilled about having competent celebrities this year, but Oti is pretty businesslike whereas Natalie gets all giddy. Maybe because she's finally got someone decent after a run of duds, whereas Oti only had one year with someone who was injured so his potential was difficult to assess anyway.

magicstar1 · 16/10/2016 13:34

I think I'm a lone voice in the wilderness, but my favourite jive is Scott and Natalie's. He didn't put a single foot wrong, and it was just perfection. Jay is a close second though.
I do miss Artem too! I had the whole season of him and Kara saved on my Sky box but it went kaput recently.

StrictlyPan · 16/10/2016 13:35

Yes Nat always has a grin on her face, which is great and indicates she just throws herself at her task.

The number of discussions in solicitor's offices that commence with "It all seem to start when he was invited onto Strictly Come Dancing.."

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 16/10/2016 13:43

I'm unconvinced that you need real life chemistry to produce it on the floor. My favourite Rumba was Colin Jackson and Erin - oodles of chemistry there and I'm pretty sure they weren't each other's type - even leaving aside the absence of sexual attraction they seemed to have a friendly but entirely professional relationship in the training room (unlike other couples who weren't each other's type but had bags of personal chemistry).
m.youtube.com/watch?v=uXxx1kXCiSc The clip includes Matthew Cutler giving professional advice on whether it's OK to touch your partner's "boobs" which is a bonus.

dementedma · 16/10/2016 14:16

I used to love watching Robin dance....sigh

MrsJamin · 16/10/2016 14:21

Loving catching up on the thread later on. I don't like reading it as I'm watching as I miss stuff!
Loved ore's jive but his American smooth to singing in the rain really moved me last week and was a lot more memorable IMHO. I think him and Greg are my favourites. I doubt Danny will win, I think he has similar experience with dance to Jay but Jay was a lot more humble and had lots of overly negative comments from the judges throughout the series, mostly about his expression, so I think people voted especially because they thought the judges verdicts wouldn't take him through necessarily.
Loving lesley, she is an absolute inspiration, I'm going to take up yoga if that's what helps you be that flexible and nimble as an older woman.

BalloonSlayer · 16/10/2016 14:26

Do we really think that Danny deliberately left the door fly into Oti? Or was it that he was so pumped that he didn't realise the force he used on the door and that it would spring back so quickly.

No! Just that if you go through a door and know that there is someone behind you, you make sure you hold it a little until you feel the weight lift which tells you that they have taken the weight and 'got' the door. You only burst through a door like that and let it drop when you think you are the only person coming through it. I see it as = he didn't hold it because, to him, no one else exists/matters, not even his teacher who is right behind him. Confused

MargotLovedTom · 16/10/2016 14:30

Claire King and Brendan had loads of chemistry in their rumba and apparently they didn't get on (although it seemed like the sort of 'not getting on' which explodes into mad, passionate sex in Hollywood movies Wink).

Agree re Scott Maslen's jive - it was so, so good.

I don't know what I'm missing with Greg: I don't think he's all that great.

MrsJamin · 16/10/2016 14:40

I think Greg is your classic strictly celeb, someone who is actually famous, hasn't danced before, is nervous but you can see real progression already, so you'd like him to keep going to see how good he can get. Also... Super nice bloke, I follow his wife on instagram and on the way back from strictly last night they stopped on the motorway to help a car that had broken down, waited for him to get help, etc. Also: love a ginger (Ds2 is a proper carrot top!)

MargotLovedTom · 16/10/2016 15:05

Oh I'm not disputing that he seems like a good bloke. Just many people seem to be saying he's broken Natalie's run of duffers, when I'd probably put him slightly above Michael Vaughn (IMO). As I said on the other thread, Natalie's real chances were with Scott Maslen and Ricky Whittle, and they were yonks ago Sad.

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 16/10/2016 15:29

Lesley is indeed the world's best advertisement for yoga.

Theromanempire · 16/10/2016 17:59

I agree with mrsjamin - Greg is the old-style Strictly celeb (like Chris Hollins, Matt Di Angela etc) that improved over the series plus he is just so damn likeable!!! There doesn't seem to be an edge to him, he is enthusiastic, throwing himself into it without any hint of self-consciousness - I love him!!

I agree that he hasn't broken Natalie's 'duffers' as he isn't that skilled a dancer but he is probably one of the more well-known and popular celebs she has had.

Chippednailvarnishing · 16/10/2016 18:05

I was just revisiting Ed's dance on youtube and one of the comments was that it reminded them of shrek!

raisedbyguineapigs · 16/10/2016 18:41

hallo I agree re chemistry. It's like actors who are in relationships in real life. The chemistry is weirdly lacking, whereas sometimes the chemistry is electric between people who are just working professionally. I suppose if you fancy someone and you are on telly, you might be trying too hard to disguise your attraction and end up not concentrating on the dance.

Redcrayons · 16/10/2016 18:48

Lesley is indeed the world's best advertisement for yoga

Signs up for a million yoga lessons.

I think it might be Anastasia vs Naga tonight. With Naga going.
