It's understandable if she didn't want to talk about the baby.

LineyReborn · 12/10/2016 23:42

I thought the failed beehives were poignant at the start.

EmilyDickinson · 12/10/2016 23:43

I think that the brother (is he called Matthew?) thinks that the girl in the grave is Alice because only the mum realises she wasn't Alice.

LarkDescending · 12/10/2016 23:50

When the police go to the school early on to get Mrs Webster they tell her that the girl who has been found "says her name is Alice Webster".

Tippexy · 12/10/2016 23:53

Turned off at the point when the girl was raped. Why must there be violence against women in "entertainment"?

BloodyBaubles · 12/10/2016 23:53

I'm just absolutely gutted that Julien Baptiste has a brain tumour Sad I fell in love with him during the last series, he's soooo handsome!

TwoDrifters · 13/10/2016 00:29

Am I wrong or would it not be incredibly unprofessional to reveal to the parents that their daughter had been pregnant? As an adult, is Alice not deserving of privacy as to her medical records?

Callmesausage · 13/10/2016 06:56

Also nice to see the policeman from Trapped

shins · 13/10/2016 07:04

I thought the parents were weird and cold to the daughter.

WipsGlitter · 13/10/2016 07:19

I enjoyed it but DP got lost!!

Lots of threads to watch come together.

So the timeline is...
Sophie abducted
Alice abducted
11 years later Alice returns - 2014
A few days later Alice dies
Present day - Baptiste is going to Iraq to find the black solider, dad's having an affair, mum is looking at roller coaster pics, sons gone off the rails.

MissClarke86 · 13/10/2016 07:21

But I still don't understand....she LOOKS like the old pictures of Alice. Identical.

Unless there was twins somewhere along the line, or plastic surgery, then she must be Alice.

EmilyDickinson · 13/10/2016 08:44

I've just rewatched the first four and a half minutes of the programme pausing at the close up of the tattoo on 11 year old Alice and 22 year old Alice. The tattoos don't look the same. 11 year old Alice's tattoo has four circles to the web and the whole web is inked on. 22 year old Alice has three circles to the web and there are gaps in the inking. However, I don't know whether and how much homemade tattoos fade.

Anyone else care to take a look and see if they agree?

I can already tell this is going to be like Missing 1 where I kept rewatching to pick up clues.

BakeOffBiscuits · 13/10/2016 09:13

Lenny Henry?? Grin

I missed about 10 minutes in the middle as DH came home and dared to want to talk to me!

Can someone please explain the Lany Henry reference up thread and also what the young black solider was doing in the story.

WipsGlitter · 13/10/2016 09:52

I think the Lenny Henry reference was a joke.

The young black solider is who Baptiste is looking for in Iraq. His dad (also in the army) killed himself just before Alice died. At the funeral he exchanged strange looks with a blonde woman. He was also seen cleaning up blood in his / his fathers house.

fightingback · 13/10/2016 10:03

I cant believe we get to watch the lovely French man and the lovelier Icelandic Andri from Trapped.

The BBC are spoiling us!

LarkDescending · 13/10/2016 10:15

Emily I had a look back at the tattoos but can't see an obvious discrepancy. I think 22yr old Alice's tattoo does have four rings, but as you say is faded in parts, and no doubt stretched too.

Young Alice has gappy front teeth which older Alice does not, but no doubt that could have happened naturally with time.

BakeOffBiscuits · 13/10/2016 10:26

Thanks for the explanation Wisps

It's confusing enough without jokes about Lenny Grin

Bragadocia · 13/10/2016 10:58

The photograph of Henry Reed at his funeral in 2014 (father of Daniel, the solider being sought in Iraq in 2016) looks a lot like Lenny Henry - that's what was being referred to upthread. It's really bothering me that I can't decide whether it is actually him.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 13/10/2016 11:10

I made a really good summary in my thread about this. As long as you pay attention and follow the different hair it's quite easy to follow, but you can't get distracted, I couldn't even play on my phone at the same time like I normally do. Grin

I think it's Sophie, not Alice. I think Alice died, possibly Sophie had a hand in it and she wanted her life. They would have been taken around the same time, they were the same age and from the photos of Sophie in the papers, they looked quite similar, especially the eyes. They made a point twice of saying how Alice tattooed herself so she could have done one on Sophie too.

I reckon either the fake Alice died not long after returning, or they go to find where they were held and find the body and that is the real Alice, hence the grave. Possibly. Or the Alice that returned died in a fire and the father and brother feel guilty because they couldn't save her.

I think only the mum suspects she isn't Alice. Baptiste said at the end the girl who returned wasn't Alice. At first I thought he meant because she would never be free and always trapped in her mind but I don't think that's the case now. Unless it's a double bluff to make us think that. Possible.

The brother has also promised something to Alice.

Not sure what the photos are about. Something the mum doesn't want her family to know about so just be something to do with her and Baptiste not believing it was Alice.

atticusclaw2 · 13/10/2016 11:22

Ollie was definitely dead in the first series. Its just that the Dad drove himself crazy not being able to accept that.

Its looking like the dead black soldier guy kidnapped the girls. The Photofit showed someone completely different though and "Alice" said that he was German. Plus she seems like she was trying to get out her "story" when she was recounting what had happened at the hospital. Like it was all rehearsed and planned. Weird that the actress would look so similar to the younger Alice though if it isn't supposed to be her.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 13/10/2016 12:34

I forgot how much the previous series made my head hurt. Definitely a programme that needs 100% concentration or you get lost. The end was freaky, liking it so far.

EmilyDickinson · 13/10/2016 12:51

I suppose if returned Alice is in fact Sophie then she could have been recounting the abduction story that real Alice told her. I thought that the story sounded odd because it was told with so little emotion but imagined that if you'd been held captive for so long then you would have to disociate from what was happening. I felt awful for Alice that her father couldn't bear to hear what had happened to her, after all Alice had had to live it. Maybe he blames himself for her being taken because she'd been unhappy and played truant. I wonder if the family had recently had to move to Germany because of the dad's job and 11 year old Alice was finding it hard. Pretty difficult to move to another country at that age I'd have thought.

MillieMoodle · 13/10/2016 13:08

I didn't see the first series but am already hooked on the second!

I'm not sure the person we are led to believe is Alice in 2014 is actually Alice. So many questions!

Who is the blonde woman at the funeral?

What happened to the military police woman's baby and why did she hide the scan picture?

Why is the French man searching for the black soldier?

Why is the mother looking through rollercoaster photos and why don't her family know she's in contact with the French man?

Why is the son a drug addict? And who was the woman he yelled at at the supermarket, and why was she so scared of him? What has he promised Alice?

Why is the dad so badly scarred?

Can't wait for next week's episode!

EverySongbirdSays · 13/10/2016 13:26

It was me referred to Lenny Henry I was sure his photo was being used as the deceased father of the young soldier - as he's a "name" I think we will see him in flashback so he could be the perpetrator and she got away as he was dead
