For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

I'd happily watch Roger Allam read a telephone directory. Not that telephone directories are very long any more Smile

DownWithThisSortaThing · 29/10/2016 13:03

Interesting theory about there being three girls.
There's definitely going to be a twist but I have a feeling we're no where near the truth Grin like series 1, which caught me completely off guard. (Just me?!)

DownWithThisSortaThing · 29/10/2016 13:05

Also there's still another FIVE episodes left! I'm not sure I can deal with the stress of this being teased out over 5 more weeks. I need to know now!

The80sweregreat · 29/10/2016 13:09

down, series one did leave me and my dh thinking 'what?' especially as it looked like he might be getting some answers at last.
He isn't as gripped with this series as I am.
I think the acting is superb - David morrisary always plays edgy characters.

timelytess · 29/10/2016 13:12

I shall be concerned for Sarah and Duck, from now on.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 29/10/2016 13:14

I just remember forgetting to breathe for a while when it did the reveal of what happened when Ollie first disappeared! I was so convinced it was more sinister than how it began.
There's just something compelling about the series and I like the jumping backwards and forwards thing. I like it when things begin to tie together and make sense. Great series so far, and agree, the acting has been brilliant. I love Laura Fraser, I had no idea she was Scottish after seeing her in Breaking Bad and now this.

timelytess · 29/10/2016 13:21

Just reflecting ... if Sophie-Alice left Alice-Sophie behind to starve to death, they are plus one in corpses. A swap of the two missing girls would leave the body of the real Alice in the shed - so ok for dna testing.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 29/10/2016 13:38

I think what was happening in Iraq is nothing to do with The girls going missing just there is a cross over with the people involved. Daniel has left he army because of what ??? his father was involved in I think something more along the lines of covering up for other soldiers maybe them toutoring Iraqi civilians which the butchers wife and the Brig were also involved with and having the butcher arrested Brig is showing he is still in charge (and he tipped someone off to keep her quiet later)

There is something about the young German policeman he gave no reaction to when the butcher spoke to him

timelytess · 29/10/2016 13:38

Also, when Sophie-Alice went awol from Alice's parents' house, she is assumed to have left through an upstairs window. There was nothing to cushion her landing and the landing point would have been observed from the two downstairs windows.

Baptiste told the Brig he wanted DNA testing of Sophie-Alice. The Brig would have been in a position to have the body of Alice-Sophie moved to the shed.

I love Laura Fraser, I had no idea she was Scottish after seeing her in Breaking Bad and now this

I first saw her what feels like several decades ago in the BBC adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere as "the Lady Door" ( that sounds odd without the back story, but doors, porticoes , turnstyles, gates, and exits and entrances are essential to the story). It also had Peter Capaldi as the Angel Islington.

HRarehoundingme · 29/10/2016 13:45

I like the idea that there was already a corpse to put in the shed.

MiddleClassProblem · 29/10/2016 13:48

I'm glad someone else is concerned for how she not only got out that window and got down safely but also legged it without them seeing through the big windows and glass doors and made it away and out of sight before dad looked out her window. Is it possible she is an avenger?

Temporaryanonymity · 29/10/2016 14:52

Just rewatched the first episode again. David M. looked a bit odd (had his hands in his head) in the car on the way to the hospital. I wonder if he knew something.

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 29/10/2016 19:05

Thedogs

The first series was a completely separate story set in France, not connected to series 2 apart from the fact that Baptiste is in both series.

diddl · 29/10/2016 19:08

"Just popping back to say I absolutely love this series, more than S1"

Me too!

No jimmy nesbitt!!

Just looked bak at the cast for series1 & the woman who played his wife was only a couple of years younger than him!

Thought that it was going to be 10yrs or so!

MagzFarquarson · 29/10/2016 19:33

Has anyone else spotted the cymbal-playing toy monkey in the opening titles? The one SophieAlice gave to Matthew when she came back? It's an nth of a second shot of it, looks like it's laying on the ground in the woods. As if I've watched it frame by frame Grin

MiddleClassProblem · 29/10/2016 21:08

Have the titled changed as it has gone on?

HarryPottersMagicWand · 29/10/2016 21:44

I wonder if the butchers wife was some sort of prostitute or something whilst in the army? Daniel Reed said his dad had written about her in the diary and indicated it wasn't in a nice way, the brigadier said about having the pleasure of knowing her, in a distasteful way. I immediately thought of something sexual, then we saw the bondage picture. There must be a reason that she deleted it, she thinks the butcher is capable of being guilty due to his sexual preferences.

I also wondered if the conclusion is that the girl who returned does actually turn out to be Alice after all. But she certainly understood Julien when he spoke in French to her and the nervous habit with the fingers isn't one you would consciously be aware of and think to do just to make some ageing French Detective think she is someone else. There is no way she would have thought the detective in the Sophie Giroux case would be involved so it's likely that she is Sophie and the mystery is why has she come back and impersonated Alice. When they asked her in the ambulance who she was, she said Sophie Giroux straight away and had a slight French accent when she said it. I thought she may be indicating the person left behind, as in they needed to find her but actually I think she was answering their question.

Wrt her recognising her dad etc, if the brigadier (or anyone else) was involved, he could easily have shown her pictures of Alice's family.

Just had a thought, Daniel says what his dad was sending money for made him sick, maybe it wasn't a bad thing, maybe his dad was supporting the army (right word?) he is fighting for now because of how badly civilians were being treated and that's why he went awol to join them?

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/10/2016 09:55

Loving this. Much better than S1 imo, not least because of no James Nesbitt.

I thought the German thuggish mates of the son would be the ones who beat up Butcher Woman but this picture shows that the one on the left, at least, had much longer hair than the two skinhead thugs and the brother.

The Missing is back next week!
EnthusiasmDisturbed · 30/10/2016 09:57

They have shaved hair now ... they look to be the same build and height

Creepy picture that bit scared me

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/10/2016 09:57

In fact, looking closely, it could be David Morrissey on the left! Shock

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/10/2016 09:59

I think they had v short hair at the time too though?

youarenotkiddingme · 30/10/2016 10:02

Good call on DM. Could that be the thing he regrets?

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/10/2016 10:06

See, the one on the left's neck/throat looks like DM doesn't it?
