For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

I think the sprayed red camper van was showing us that whoever was doing this was still out ther. The family in the car is a red herring, how would Alice had learnt another language in that time?

kimlo · 28/10/2016 07:50

I think the family in the car was just a nod to series 1, like the yellow scarf.

youarenotkiddingme · 28/10/2016 08:00

It's interesting they used a yellow scarf as the memory - wasntbit a yellow scarf that Ollie wore in series 1 that ran as a theme throughout?

HRarehoundingme · 28/10/2016 08:41

There is also the possibility that Alice is Alice and Gemma is clinging to the beliefollowing hat her daughter could be alive hence focusing her attention on this other girl when in fact her daughter HAS died. a form of grief possibly?

diddl · 28/10/2016 08:49

The girl who returned has such distinct eyes that you'd think it would be obvious whether or not it was your daughter!

When Gemma was telling Eve about Alice being Sophie, do we think that the Brigadier was lucid & taking it in?

Temporaryanonymity · 28/10/2016 10:09

There was something a bit off about Holiday Mum though. Her facial expressions didn't really convey any warmth or love towards the boy. You'd smile as you looked back wouldn't you?

Although it could have been the 100th time they'd played the game and it was doing her head in. Maybe they are going for realism, I know that feeling.

I watched a US series recently where a child returned after 10 years plus. I stopped watching half way through but the mother was similarly suspicious that the child wasn't hers. I hate it when a similar plot turns up.

The time jumping is really confusing, it's irritating me a lot. I'll be glad when the fashion for jumping around dies out. At first I thought Alice was taken to replace Sophie, but that turned out to be incorrect of course.

diddl · 28/10/2016 10:13

I find the jumping around a bit annoying.

Are you referring to The Family?

I quite enjoyed that.

Temporaryanonymity · 28/10/2016 10:15

Yes, I think it was The Family. I was watching it via the Kodi app on my Amazon Firestick and it mysteriously deleted itself. I can't face the hours of tapping away on my laptop to get it back.

Irritations with time jumping aside, I'm enjoying it very much. I think it's quite plausible that the mother would go to the MP woman, despite the affair. Her family is so broken she is willing to do anything to find Alice.

TobleroneBoo · 28/10/2016 11:57

Does anybody else find the intro music really chilling?

storminabuttercup · 28/10/2016 12:05

Just caught up with this thread! Loving it!

Like the idea of eve being a twin. I think she knows something is 'off' about her dad, her face after the alabaster skin comment said a lot
Wondering what the cry for help the counsellor is referring to when Sam asks if he can go back to work.

Elendon · 28/10/2016 12:34

Ok, I know the following theory is a bit wacky but hear me out. Gemma did not give birth to either child, but were either surrogate children or adopted. Or Alice was as a result of ivf and her son not, or the other way around. This couple could not conceive naturally with at least one of their children. Brigs daughter had affair with Gemma's husband and had a baby that died. It all comes out in the wash and all is forgiven though not forgotten. They reignite their affair but it's obviously failing. Baptiste kept saying a mother knows.

Elendon · 28/10/2016 12:48

Also Gemma is multilingual, because she understood what Baptiste said to Sophie/Alice.

LarkDescending · 28/10/2016 13:02

Gemma was teaching German literature in her opening scene in Ep 1, so it would not be surprising if as a modern linguist she spoke/understood French as well.

I have wondered about whether Alice was born to the Websters. She has not been cast to look like them, with those dramatic big pale blue eyes and pale complexion in contrast to the brown eyes & more olive skin of her parents and brother. Obviously it's all possibly genetically, but maybe the casting is trying to tell us something?

LarkDescending · 28/10/2016 13:03

*it's all possible genetically

LizzieMacQueen · 28/10/2016 13:59

When Gemma was telling Eve about Alice being Sophie, do we think that the Brigadier was lucid & taking it in?

Yes, I think there was something in the way his eyes looked. Alabaster skin - yuck , what a perv.

HRarehoundingme · 28/10/2016 14:07

Temporaryanonyminity it reminds me of the case of Bobby Dunbar and also Frédéric Bourdin or the film Changeling with Angelia Jolie.

It is a weird situation but it does happen however improbable.

MiddleClassProblem · 28/10/2016 14:13

So DD threw my phone in a bucket of water yesterday. It's alive but I've missed 70 posts here! Lots of theories to catch up on!

shhhgobacktosleep · 28/10/2016 14:16

Have been reading but not posting on this thread but now wonder if the camper van spotting family are involved and perhaps we will be left (as in S1) not really knowing everything and wondering whether that was (real) Alice and/or her child driving away.

MiddleClassProblem · 28/10/2016 14:36

Re IMDb, The ep count has gone up each week for "Alice" and other cast members so production are editing it as they go. After ep 1 it said 2 eps. Interesting that it could be a flash back or another appearance from her.

It is a horrible was to commit suicide but there is nothing saying she didn't take something first. Even if she didn't she would have don't it to avoid dna as much as poss. But still possible it wasn't her at all.

I'm not sure that we have been seeing Eve's sister at any point. It doesn't seem necessary and they talked about calling her so it sounds like she's not in the army so can't be her having the affair as pp suggested.

MiddleClassProblem · 28/10/2016 14:39

And if the girls are twins, Gemma suggesting a dna would need to be from something old of Alice's like a hairbrush or something, so testing against herself rather than fam. You'd think that may not occur to Sam when she suggested it so would at least ask how as part of his kick off but he didn't which makes me think they're the parents

MiddleClassProblem · 28/10/2016 14:40

*biological

Clawdy · 28/10/2016 17:15

Alice's last conversation with her brother sounded as if she was definitely his sister. There was no point in her talking to him like that so fondly, when she knew she had no time left, unless she was really Alice.

kimlo · 28/10/2016 18:35

unless she was playing a part and repeating back what real Alice had said to her about her brother while they were together. She might have wanted to pass that on to him before the death of the person he believed to be his sister.

SarahJessicaParkersLostCurls · 28/10/2016 19:36

Just a small (probably wholly irrelevant and ridiculous) point about the dog. People have said there are clues in the opening credits - did I spy a pair of dog's front legs there??!

mikado1 · 28/10/2016 20:26

I am actually sitting down to rewatch it here! I don't think the campervan people are relevant, other thAn to show us camper. I agree Eve being a surrogate sounds plausible as no sign of a partner and sister mentioned.

What I can't get it how sure Alice was when speaking to brig -not a bit frightened or worried- but yet wont tell parents /anyone about him.. she speaks authentically enough to 'brother', would she really have killed herself and let brig get away with 'what you've done'? She could have left a letter... Hope it's more satisfying wrap-up than S1!
