For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

I think so MCP - at the bottom of a few steps leading from living area to kitchen I think.
I think the drugs started after the fire.
I expect the actual outcome will be pretty mundane, as per Missing 1 Grin and nothing near our theories. Remember all the stuff about the chemically castrated guy being the transgender daughter of yacht man. And how we all got caught up with Nesbitt's relationship with his FIL, and whether the wife's ex was Olleh's father? Grin

FoxesOnSocks · 17/10/2016 15:23

It's a fairly standard about an eleven year old isn't it foxes?

Well hopefully yes. Though I'm not sure a totally stranger would see her as 11; she seemed older to me anyway (in fact I had thought she was supposed to be 14ish).

MoonfaceAndSilky · 17/10/2016 15:47

I keep forgetting she was supposed to be 11, I thought she was at least 13 Blush

MiddleClassProblem · 17/10/2016 16:27

Ok rewatched it.

Bloodstain is on the corner so if it were a bloodstain it suggests from someone having their head knocked in on the corner. I don't think it is a blood stain but didn't have any splatters on the wall that I saw so whatever it is is perculiar how it got there. Maybe he had a row with dad pre suicide?

Could army Aldi have something to do with the fire too? She looks pretty broken from whatever happened too.

The ending it sounds like baptiste is saying that he doesn't think it was Alice not that it was Alice but changed. He still thinks it's a girl who was locked up. Maybe there are more than two girls.

I think someone mentioned they thought Sophie might have died when Alice got there or something be aide of her saying he hadn't feed her in days but I think that was just before the return rather than when they were 11.

Army dad to preggo daughter has a secret and def sound like it was her sisters baby in there.

Coming back to comment on Christmas market discussions. When I lived in Berlin the Christmas markets opened on December 1 and closed on December 24 (because everything shuts on Dec 24 for Christmas) and are taken down after that. So the fact that Christmas market was on indicates to me it was sometime in December before Christmas Eve. At first, from Christmas tree being up when Alice came home, I thought it must be Christmas Eve as all the Germans I knew didn't put their trees up until then, then I remembered Alice's family were English so tree could have been up any time since early November Grin. Also, just to reiterate previous post, if Alice were Sophie she would definitely have at least a hint of a French accent or French phrasing. Sophie would not have been speaking perfect English anymore than Alice would have been speaking perfect French - in fact as a mother of British children who attended a French school in Berlin I'd guess the girls would have been more likely to speak German to each other.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/10/2016 23:54

I have British friends who went to international schools in Hamburg so they went from Lancaster accents to American accents but fluent in German. I think the audience might struggle with that though.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/10/2016 23:56

Oh and I'm also thinking that baptiste said his "but believe me when I say that girl was not Alice Webster" (paraphrasing) bit that the family bar mum think it def was Alice but real Alice might not get found until present day.

Having said that I'm not sure that she's not Alice. I basically don't trust anything and this could just turn into the matrix

LillianGish · 18/10/2016 07:09

Wasn't suggesting Alice should speak German, just trying to make the point that I think if she was Sophie she would speak English with a French accent.

Dulra · 18/10/2016 08:41

For all those who followed series 1 and were disappointed in the ending I find it so sad that the recent investigations into Ben needham's disappearance in kos seem to be pointing to him getting killed by a digger by accident.

Bagina · 18/10/2016 09:55

I know, Dulra. The heartbreaking thing about series one, and the complete waste of everyone lives, was that the accident didn't kill Olly. Fucking awful to watch.

LillianGish · 18/10/2016 10:23

Dulra exactly the same thought struck me when I heard the news.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2016 17:20

Ok watched again. No fb mn etc

Makes more sense now

Bald baptiste - scarred dad and short haired mum - present

Not sure if Alice was alive tho seemed to have same posgy nose

Elendon · 18/10/2016 19:04

Hi everyone, mind if I join in? Loved series one and so sad that this will be Baptiste's last outing.

Both girls' abduction involved a yellow VW van, possibly late 70s and possibly with Belgian plates.

When Alice was abducted she was hit (there was a scream and a thud, plus she was laid out on the back of the van). She recalls it as having a black bag put over her head, and that she could hardly breathe without the bag going down her throat).

Daniel's dad killed himself a week before Alice died.

Matthew knew the woman who was at Aldi, and who was also at the funeral of Daniel's dad.

Daniel has gone AWOL or over to the other side. But he does know something. His demeanour at the funeral suggests it.

Questions:

Why is Alice's mother looking at photos of a theme park ride?
What happened to the pregnant MP's baby, and where is her dad?
Why did the MP contact Baptiste and then dismiss him so rudely and so abruptly?
Why does Baptiste not believe that Alice was not Alice and has he shared these thoughts with Keeley Hawes?

Matthew and the father have serious dude issues between them. I'd love to know what happened.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 18/10/2016 19:30

Why did the MP contact Baptiste and then dismiss him so rudely and so abruptly?

Yes I thought that. She was really rude to him, I was shouting at her "you bloody contacted him"

MoonfaceAndSilky · 18/10/2016 20:07

Is it Wednesday yet? Grin

HarryPottersMagicWand · 18/10/2016 20:27

I thought the same when she was rude! She really pissed me off actually.

I think Baptiste and the mum are the only ones who believe the girl wasn't Alice and no one else will accept that, that's why they are talking to each other about it. The mum said on the phone they would think she was mad or something like that and she was still looking (at the roller coaster pictures) when she got the chance.

OP posts:
Elendon · 18/10/2016 20:40

Yes I also think the mum knows it isn't Alice and is just going through the motions at the grave. She thinks Alice is still alive and perhaps has the baby too. I also think that the 'she was so weak' reference was 'Alice' talking about herself. Or they could be both deluded, but Baptiste is rarely on a wild goose chase. Didn't he have an adult daughter in the first series? Is this teenager who had the tv turned off his granddaughter?

Such a great programme. Can't wait for tomorrow night! Plus the GBBO.

FoxesOnSocks · 18/10/2016 22:34

Have to say I wasn't disappointed by the ending of series 1, I'm quite certain I'm not the only one that wasn't. As far as I got Ollie was dead, he was killed, but it was the dad who couldn't accept this, so he kept on looking.

The case with Ben Needham is utterly heartbreaking: I cannot grasp what his mother or his family have felt all these year, nor what they must feel now. It's all so tragic.

MillieMoodle · 19/10/2016 13:57

Just watching episode 1 again. When Sam Webster is in the psychiatrists office he says "you want me to talk about Alice and all that" then says something like "all right, I know I shouldn't have done what I did, it was a mistake". So what did he do?!

Can't wait for tonight's episode!

MiddleClassProblem · 19/10/2016 14:22

Just occurred to me that if it is an online connection that if Sophie was gone first, abductor could have used her to talk online to Alice either by catfishing or by telling Sophie to do it

MillieMoodle · 19/10/2016 14:38

Also at the cemetery Sam says that Matthew still hasn't forgiven him, and the mum says he hasn't forgiven himself. For what? Matthew also says he'll do what he promised, he hasn't forgotten, to Alice's grave.

When the brigadier (Eve stone's dad) and the police chief have met, Eve and her dad are walking to the car and she asks him if he's told her sister yet. He says he will but we don't know what he's going to tell her yet.

Aargh there's so much unanswered!

Also watching this again, I am fairly convinced that "Alice" isn't Alice at all but I'm not sure she's Sophie either. When she says that Sophie was weak, she's quite aggressive about it; I took it to mean weak minded and that they didn't get on, rather than weak through lack of food. She's giving me the creeps, there's a few sly smiles here and there. Also she sounded cockney at the start as a school girl, but doesn't any more. Maybe she is Sophie trying to take Alice's life for her own and the mum isn't convinced it's Alice which is why she didn't want her to come home?

mellongoose · 19/10/2016 15:27

So did we meet Eve's sister? Could they be identical twins? This would solve the mystery between one of them shagging the dad and other one losing her baby.

Am I being too far fetched?!!

RTKangaMummy · 19/10/2016 17:09

PLEASE POST HERE

So everyone can follow the same theories etc

LillianGish · 19/10/2016 18:06

Just watching again with my daughter so she can catch up and watch tonight. She looked at the view we keep being shown of the circle of treetops shot from the ground towards the sky and straightaway said "That's like her tattoo" - no idea if significant, just thought it was an interesting observation and they do keep showing that view for some reason.
I also noticed that the dad is finger tapper as well.
