2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

40,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch the last episode of series 2. And that first post is a distant memory.

I thought I would try watching The Missing tonight, mainly because of KHawes in it. I had to stay in today for a gas engineers and rather than housework... I sat to watch Far from a madding crowd. The one with Matthias in it. woof was it you or orph that have had him locked in your cupboard??

pixieg1rl · 12/10/2016 20:50

That's such a lovely film rich. A day well spent I'd say.

moojangles · 12/10/2016 22:27

Don't know about you rhu but I really enjoyed The Missing

Ilovelblue · 12/10/2016 22:28

Had to think Nickel about my favourite scenes, rather than just fast forwarding on to the next one and the next one which my fingers can do automatically now .... There are plenty of Elvis related ones which a lot of you on here probably won't agree with, but hey, I've never made a secret of my enjoyment (even though I have to reiterate yet again that I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole in real life if he'd jilted me at the altar).

The initial scenes with Elvis when he shins up Georgie's drainpipe and into her bedroom.
First sight of CJ in his full dress uniform at the wedding.
Banter with Fingers and Monk at the camp,
When CJ opens the flap into Georgie's tent.
Sight of Elvis and the boys getting out of the helicopter.
Elvis in the camp shower talking to CJ.
Elvis' twirly finger (makes me laugh every time)
CJ at Georgie's bedside in the hospital
Elvis and Georgie in his hotel room after the beach shooting.
CJ talking to Jamie in the London cafe
Elvis and Georgie in the Polish cafe
Elvis and his team (but really Elvis) in their black counter-terrorist kit.
CJ in his suit at the MoD.

Will that do you Nickel?

I've just watched The Missing, and am a bit puzzled about Alice's age. In 2014 she is apparently 22 (born 1992) and having been missing for 11 years that would make her 11 when kidnapped. She appeared to me to be a lot older than 11 then (tattoo, smoking!) the younger brother looked more like 11. Am I overthinking it?! It seems that since our two year in depth study of series 1 OG I can't just watch something anymore....

Rhubarb01 · 12/10/2016 23:31

Yes, ilove I heartily agree with all those favourite bits. I would add that I also liked the following:

Elvis being winched up to the helicopter and putting his hand on Georgie's shoulder - ahh!
Georgie's line to Elvis in the helicopter about her vision
Pretty much anything that Lulu had to say especially the 'Epic' comment.
Max challenging a trained killer to a duel outside!
Georgie threatening to give Monk a medically induced reduction in his manhood!
Brains - pretty much anywhere what a sweetie

Ok enough!

I really enjoyed The Missing too mooj and frank. I thought it was intriguing and multi-stranded. I didn't mind the time swaps and I'm not bothered about following it all yet as we're not meant to. I thought it was clever keeping us guessing about 'visiting' Alice. That wasn't what I expected.

Re: Alice's age I have to agree with you Frank that I thought she was older at the time of abduction, say 14 or so? I thought the brother looked about 10. I was a bit surprised that she was only supposed to be 22. I'm not sure whether the final comment by the detective was a fact or just his interpretation of what she was like. I'm deliberately being vague in case anyone else wants to watch. I think it would be better watched in boxset format though as you have to drag your mind back every time you watch over seven days which can be difficult for an aging biddy like me!

Richtea19 · 13/10/2016 07:33

I really enjoyed the missing too. I got very confused about the timeline as DH came in about 15 mins into it and rather than
Rewinding I did a recap for him and said it was 1974 not 2014 (where did I get that from??) so in the end I rewound it and was proved wrong by DH which of course he loved. Good twist about visiting Alice.

Ilovelblue · 13/10/2016 08:27

To be honest Rhu there were a few others I nearly listed but I didn't want anyone to think I was obsessed as obsession isn't what this thread is about.

Rhubarb01 · 13/10/2016 08:41

Obsessed? surely not! I thought we were all participating in some legitimate Mass Observation study a bit like 'Housewife 49'. Was I wrong?

pixieg1rl · 13/10/2016 13:56

I think we're ace on the observation elements of this. V important to be able spot & remember minor details according to the SAS men. We're the OG special forces!

SoEverybodyDance · 13/10/2016 14:34

I'm in! When's our next mission Pix?

pixieg1rl · 13/10/2016 14:40

How are you at abseiling from a helicopter dancey?

Rhubarb01 · 13/10/2016 14:48

Yes, I like that pix. That is perfect for us when you consider all the skills we have gained since this started. Most of us are adept at living undercover 'double lives', carrying out long-range internet surveillance and have photographic memories for all things OG, not to mention a few strategic manoeuvres we have learned which are definitely not in the SAS manual - who can forget the 'monkey grip' and the 'swivel chair'. That definitely deserves a mention in the title of our next thread.

SoEverybodyDance · 13/10/2016 15:24

I'm spot on... right behind you Pixie

SoEverybodyDance · 13/10/2016 15:26

I LOVE the idea of us going on some hare-brained mission Rhubarb

Rhubarb01 · 13/10/2016 15:37

Yeah Dance 'Mad Bastard' is my middle name!

Richtea19 · 13/10/2016 16:15

Oh I'm up for SAS mission, I learnt all my climbing drainpipe skills from the Master himself (Elvis), and I look better in black than khakis. Do we need to find the chair positions again?

SoEverybodyDance · 13/10/2016 16:23

Rhubarb I think we do...

Ilovelblue · 13/10/2016 16:49

That's better ladies! It seems ages since we had this sort of mad banter!

Ilovelblue · 13/10/2016 19:16

I have a head for heights (as I demonstrated going up a 30 foot ladder to rescue my cat) and have full security clearance. Count me in.

MaddieMoo82 · 13/10/2016 19:40

I'm in too! If you could just give me some notice so I can change out of my pjs! Sad

MaddieMoo82 · 13/10/2016 19:41

Oops didn't mean the sad face... I'm very happy I'm in my pjs!

moojangles · 13/10/2016 19:52

Any pre-mission mission specific training required?

Rhubarb01 · 13/10/2016 20:00

Lots of very personal instruction from Elvis on how to fit my curly-wired earpiece and whisper seductively down my top "engage" - Grin

pixieg1rl · 13/10/2016 20:30

Mooj can practice her Jackson moody stare and sniper skills. I'll get on with growing a beard and knit each of us a balaclava
