I think the fanfiction started on or around Episode 3 (at the start of October 2014). I was on gardening leave at the tim, had never heard of fanfiction before and spent rather alot of time on there!!

cjwoofwoof · 22/09/2016 16:38

I certainly would consider myself very elastic where CJ was concerned Rhu Grin

cjwoofwoof · 22/09/2016 16:39

...and I'd be more than happy to stretch to Elvis too...

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 16:44

woof Grin Grin

Why did I know you would say that? By the way there might be a long queue of ladies behind you at the shower - actually this sounds like entertainment for the AGM!

cjwoofwoof · 22/09/2016 17:11

Ohh yes definitely a queue behind Rhu definitely behind Grin

Bakingnovice · 22/09/2016 17:17

None of this series is believable. Mk is wearing full tan and makeup worth lashes in every scene. Her lips are bulbous and together with the mammoth teeth result in much lisping and mispronuncuation. I could hardly hear a word last night. Plus the romance is very cringe and the plot doesn't flow. What happened to the humanitarian mission? Why were all the terrorist compounds badly protected? How was Abu allowed back in the uk?

Mk was good but the focus was definitely on her look and body and romance. In the first series Lt was raw and gritty and endearing and most of all believable.

Plus did anyone notice the weird Downton abbey music throughout? !

Finally I think the jumping on the Muslims are airways the terrorists plot bandwagon was boring. Its been done to death now. Can we have some different bad guys for a change.

GloriaGaynor · 22/09/2016 17:18

I was only expecting CJ this series so Elvis is an (elastic) bonus...

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 17:33

Hi Bakingnovice.

I think the timelines around the humanitarian mission are confusing. passthecremeeggs commented on that as well. I think time is supposed to have passed but we haven't really picked up on that - no dates on screen like last time or general scenes of things going on over time. I think we're supposed to believe several weeks have gone by.

A lot of us preferred LT but they are different actresses playing different characters so perhaps we are wrong to compare. I think you're right that series 1 was grittier but it was part of an actual operation that was ongoing at the time with troops actually in situ so portraying something actually still happening.

I think the soundtrack music was better in series 1 and quite evocative. I haven't really noticed it this time which suggests it's not having quite the same effect.

I suppose the storyline with Islamic terrorists is very topical especially given where they are in the world. It might have seemed strange to make up something else and I assume Abu got back into the country on a false passport, differentish appearance - might be stretching the imagination to think they wouldn't spot him but then they all thought he was dead!

GloriaGaynor · 22/09/2016 17:36

Totally agree about the soundtrack. Series 1 was much better. Much preferred the opening theme song. Am quite disgusted by the new one.

cjwoofwoof · 22/09/2016 17:42

I do love The Kooks though

Bakingnovice · 22/09/2016 17:43

Rhu some good points thank you. I think you're right about series one being different because the theme was different.

I suppose I was expecting too much with this series. Its such a letdown. For example, Abu coming back to the UK and them thinking he's dead, the protocol with attacks on terrorists is surely to go in to the compound and recover or count bodies to verify information. There is no Shevington to detail at all in this series. The continuity is shocking too. But elvis is dreamy and mk is good in scenes where she is being a medic.

pixieg1rl · 22/09/2016 17:51

I would expect the Kenyan army to go in and check the compound after baking, but how much would be left to identify after that explosion I couldn't say. I would imagine it would amount to counting bits of bodies and trying to identify anything else from medical records.

GloriaGaynor · 22/09/2016 18:09

Kooks was fine, theme song's pants.

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 18:15

Anyone know who sings the theme tune? It's starting to grow on me a bit - sorry folks Blush

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 18:15

Just had a Little Britain Dennis Waterman moment there "write the theme tune, sing the theme tune!"

Onlygirljen · 22/09/2016 18:24

Theme song is Hear You Calling by Birdy rhu.

The soundtrack for series 1 is another part of the reason why I loved the show so much, even now I hear a song and I'm back watching the scene. Can't listen to People Help the People without feeling nostalgic!!

I feel very little connection to the music this time can't fucking bear the Kooks with the sole exception of the song used in the trailer, which I do love.

kazzaD66 · 22/09/2016 18:25

I've recognised some instrumental bits of music from the first series, which is good continuity between the two series but a bit annoying if it's used for a GL/EH moment cos I like to think of it as only for Molly and CJ Confused

lovelybangers · 22/09/2016 18:27

Just watched last night's episode.

Elvis is def worth watching for. I figured they would get it together - was bound to happen. So... will have to wait and see if she marries Jamie.

I was surprised to see Abu back in Manch. Scary looking bloke.

icemistOBE · 22/09/2016 18:31

It's Birdy who sings it. I rather like it, the words are rather apt.

Glad you liked the little video ilove I liked the friend request and the little snippets from other 2 section and the Molly snippets.

I need to watch it back again as 3 yo decided to get up half way through

It's very popular still in social media. And attracted huge following from Luke and Michelle fans.

Of course there is a huge expectation on this series from hardcore fans, it was always going to be hard to recreate that huge love and interest again for us.

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 18:35

Thanks jen and ice for the song intel.

The lack of a proper soundtrack is a shame - the first series was great for that, loads of songs that I listen to regularly now and they enhanced the action. Just background music now. I'm watching episode 5 of series 1 at the moment and it is so much more "real" in terms of how it's filmed, how people look. Far less glitz. And that's what makes it really work!

Heligirl79 · 22/09/2016 21:00

I agree that this series is quite similar to S1 and that the lack of a decent sound track is a shame. I don't mind the Kooks song, but it's been stuck in my head all day, which has been annoying.

With regard to the terrorist always being Muslims, unfortunately the fanatics that are a threat in the world hide behind Islam to justify their actions, so making up something else would be strange.

I've been wondering today, how did Elvis end up with Kiki's watch?

Nickel45 · 22/09/2016 21:03

Loving all the newbies that are popping in, or outing themselves :) Welcome everyone! It's really cool to be able to hear everyone's opinion.

I haven't even noticed the music this series, I'll try and remember to listen to it next time. Are we doing a watchalong this weekend? But I still get tingles too when I hear the old music, it takes me right back there.

I am surprised though, given that TG must know that we notice things, that the continuity wasn't checked and rechecked. I'm half sure we only notice things because we are so into it and have been waiting out for ever! but some things really should have been checked female X-ray surely!

Anyhow, hoping something exciting happens in the last two episodes. Not entirely convinced I know what's really gone on at the mo, and can't believe that Abu (is that his name, the one in Manchester) was assumed to be dead when they didn't even know he was in the compound, did they? Or was that when DH came in and kept interrupting?

Might gonna have to go watch again!!

PollyPerky · 22/09/2016 21:04

It's rubbish this time.

I can't believe this thread is still going strong...
the series is a soap opera of sorts. Is there really that much to say about it? It's not some Shakespeare type tragedy!

All I see is the troops providing a backdrop for a rather weak story line on the romance between G and E. There is no substance to it , she's far too made up for an army medic, she can't speak properly, it's all muttering, and the whole concept of troops being on overseas missions has been completely watered down.

Ilovelblue · 22/09/2016 21:30

Good evening ladies. I've time at last to sit down and read through 24 hours worth of posts.

This is my northern bluntness coming out, but I felt quite sad popping in and out of here through the day (whilst at work) that this series doesn't seem to be living up to expectations. I know some of you are going to shoot me down in flames and for the last two years I have been 100% by your side but I think I had set my expectations lower for this series and so am not as disappointed as a lot of you are. I knew CJ would have a different role compared with last time as he was unlikely to have a romantic interest this series. Bear in mind we wanted him still to be with Molly and so we agreed it would be too trite if indeed he "copped off", to coin a phrase, with the new female medic.

We invested many, many hours wondering, hoping and praying that the BBC would commission another series and even when they did, we didn't know for ages if BA would return as our beloved CJ.

I've likened all this to having a fantastic holiday somewhere and loving it so much that you want to go back the next year, but the hotel has changed hands when you return and the weather is rubbish. Beforehand of course, you've been telling everyone what a fantastic place it is and how suntanned you are going to be when you get home again!

I think I said before, but I'm just enjoying the ride as it were and am not trying to compare it with the previous storylines. I'm probably more shallow that a lot of we "old timers" so am just not going to over-think it for the two remaining episodes and will just admire the likes of CJ and Elvis. Anyone want to join me?
