Can't find it on YouTube yet.
Hope TG is getting the message about Molly and CJ.
Rhu referring back a bit. I did the same with WARRIORS, rewatched, couldn't leave till it finished. Magnificent acting from all those young men. really just boys, now established actors. The best examples of PTSD at the end I have ever seen. Last scene with Ioan Gruffud was riveting..hope I've spelt his name right...
Watch it, fellow CJ lovers, I'd like to see him in something as substantial as this.

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 13:57

Sorry everyone I'm back with my plethora of spurious suggestions. Re: the Last of the Mohicans quote Dance I must admit as soon as he started saying it I thought "I know those words," rapidly followed by "Why the hell is he saying that?" I don't blame GL for her reaction to that it was weird/cringeworthy. I wonder if this is an example of how Elvis needs to grow up a bit as CJ says. On the one hand he is very professional with his 'work' on the other he is immature in how he handles his personal life. If they did have a whirlwind romance, engagement and wedding particularly given his line of work I suppose it does suggest he hadn't really thought it through and neither had she. I think I preferred D'Artagnan and I was really team Aramis but there you go...

I just watched Season 1 Episode 1. It was really gritty and rough and this series is all smooth and middle class and just a bit too pretty ??

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 14:03

Yes kuia. I must admit 'Warriors' really got me yesterday... I couldn't think of anything else after watching it and needed to rush around the house doing jobs for a couple of hours before I could watch OG as it put everything into perspective. You know I love OG for what it is but 'Warriors' is definitely one military drama you will watch without once thinking of any low slung combats.

I think if this had been the first series it definitely wouldn't have had the following that it does. Loved MD, not so impressed with GL but she's doing a better job than I expected. I agree that some of the dialogue / story lines are direct lifts from the first series ("I'm proud of you", "You don't have to do this [identify the terrorist]" medic needs closure so goes back to camp).

But lots more of BA last night so enjoyed it.

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 14:13

Miniif you haven't watched the rest of series 1 definitely keep going...you're nearly there.

name change I think the thing about this series is that the presence of MK has probably brought a lot more viewers to it who probably didn't watch series 1. Let's hope they are curious enough to go and take a look at it.

After a much more promising episode 2 I was thought ep 3 was very flat.

No idea what had happened to the timelines. So - a few days into the six week mission Georgie gets kidnapped. They get her back within 24 hours. Then they spend another (max?) couple of days nailing the al-shabaab-ers (or not) and then they have 48 hours R&R. And then they go home? So the six week mission is actually 10-14 days or so? What happened to the rest of it?

And then they get home and CJ says they're going to Syria in 5 weeks. If the Kenya op had been as long as it should have been they wouldn't be going to Syria straight after, this just wouldn't happen - months of training would happen beforehand.

But pedantry aside, as someone said earlier - it's just all too pretty. None of the grit and realism of before. CJ has such a dumbed down role. Why did Georgie have full makeup on in the hospital immediately after being rescued from a hostage situation?

As a standalone series it's quite enjoyable. Compared to series 1, and to the original Molly story, it just doesn't compare. Too soapy!

Olliepops05 · 22/09/2016 15:06

Another disappointing episode once again too similar to 1st series, am i missing something and i feel mean saying this just not getting this series.
Not relating to GL in the same way as MD, Loved going on MD journey with her and watching her grow.

Not sure of CJ and GL relationship they look very close which i find confusing. Still find it strange that CJ has never mentioned Sam during this series.

SoEverybodyDance · 22/09/2016 15:16

I missed the first episode of series 1. I caught episode 2 by accident because I was looking for something to watch while lovingly ironing knife creases into my boy's trousers for his first days of reception. By the end of episode 3, I found it so exciting, it was like, bugger the iron. By the end of episode 4, my boy could have gone to school in a skirt and I wouldn't have bloody noticed, poor little bleeder...

I don't feel anywhere remotely near the same about this series. If it wasn't for the occasional glimpse of CJ, I would have turned it off by now...

Still lots of people on twitter seem to love it, so swings and roundabouts...

namechangedtoday15 · 22/09/2016 15:30

*Soeverybody" exactly the same, watched Ep 2, loved it, watched Ep 1, then Ep 2 again and I was hooked. I remember literally spending hours (and hours) desperately searching the internet after Smurf and CJ had been shot and someone had leaked a photo of the church ground for the funeral. I was in bits just in case it was CJ tad dramatic.

KeziaOAP · 22/09/2016 15:30

dance feeling same as you but will carry on watching to see how things pan out with the love triangle just not feeling the same pull as with MD/CJ.

May buy the DVD but only to ogle CJ Wink

kuiakaituhi · 22/09/2016 15:37

Do people think Mr Grounds might be reading this and picking up our wish to have MDand CJ back ? There are heaps of possible storylines. A good starting place is the fanfiction.

I came late to the party during series 1, mainly because we didn't get it in NZ till the next year. There isn't much on FF to do with the new series, though I'm playing around with CJ's imaginary diary. Can you pioneers who were here at the start of these 38000+ posts recall at what stage of the first series did stories begin to happen on the OUR GIRL thread in FanFiction?
Has this series failed to capture the imaginations of so many of our great writers? Just saying...

I really

kuiakaituhi · 22/09/2016 15:46

...wonder whether TG tried uber hard to find a beautiful couple to catch our imaginations like CJ and MD did and it's not a patch on the original Those two had amazing chemistry and I think its really hard to repeat that.Granted, Elvis is a stunner but I still prefer CJ, specially from the back view.

Imagine, Mr Grounds, what a following you would have should you devise a Series 3 based around the Originals, after Afghanistan. So, so many possibilities and we would adore you for always.

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 15:48

Kuia there were some stories on FF after about episode 3 - mostly one shots and imaginings of what might have happened in camp etc but most started to appear after episode 5 was aired with all the feverish imaginations of what happened afterwards and what should have happened and what was missing - because there were so many curious time gaps and the now infamous what happened between episode 3 and 4. That is when we all started messing about with a story on here and contributing bits and then SPO started up the 'Our Zombie Girl' and well you know the rest.

For anyone who didn't follow the early threads and wonder how we've kept talking so long, its because the subjects and talking points just grew beyond OG alone and we've had lots of silly fun and chatter about this and so many other things since whether it's the news, gardening, cooking, visits abroad or other dramas or strictly come dancing etc whilst waiting out for news of another series. It was really just the programme that brought us all to the same place at the same time. Unfortunately, for poor TG we are highly critical audience and have degree level knowledge of all things OG. I expect there is a new audience to this show who are really loving it without thinking about the previous series.

I agree there could be quite an interesting series with CJ and Molly - we talked a lot about how hard it might be for them with such different backgrounds and would it really work without any conflict? Maybe he decides to leave the army and she stays in. Maybe they have a family and he's left being the SAHD whilst she's off on tour (maybe not! - imagine Elvis and CJ meeting up for a coffee at the soft play or taking their offspring to a parents and toddler group - gosh the ranks would swell at said toddler group if they joined it ) but I'd like to see it all full circle. I would absolutely love to see CJ with Molly's parents and vice versa - plenty has been written about that!

Just watched Ep 3 back again - well, fast forwarded to the CJ scenes, which made it more bearable Grin Apart from Fingers and the odd bit of CJ, is that the last we'll see of 2 Section? I hope not - at least there was a bit more 2S banter last night but still no mention of Mansfield.........dead, alive, in Kenya or back in UK????!!!

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 16:03

Kazza according to the cast list in RT for next week there only appears to be Fingers listed but he's the one from Manchester so as others have said looks like he might cop off with Georgie's sister. Not sure how comprehensive the list is, mind you.

ourmutualfriend · 22/09/2016 16:04

The storylines may be vaguely similar, but they seem very pale imitations to me.

kuiakaituhi- maybe Mr Grounds can't necessarily get what he wants?

I'm enjoying Ditto on ff, which is set between series 1 and 2 and has featured GL but is very much MD/CJ. Just the way I like it!

kazzaD66 · 22/09/2016 16:07

Also, are we going to get an explanation at any point of why CJ changed his mind about resigning his commission and what happened after the end of S1 re his injury?

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 16:12

You're right Kazza we could do with an explanation of that.

I think it was quite telling when CJ was advising GL to tell the psychiatrist everything and get it out because it seems to me that CJ made his decision straight after being injured and he was still partially in shock etc over it all. Perhaps he had to really work it all through himself and get to grips with all the guilt about what went wrong and Smurf etc as well as the traumatic injuries and that's what he means. He was pretty kind when he said GL could call him any time. I know they've had different experiences but he definitely knows what he's talking about. Just imagine, though, being offered a hotline to CJ!

GloriaGaynor · 22/09/2016 16:24

This series got off to such a cracking start, this episode was too soapy and meh.

I was very very disappointed that the fighter planes bombed the precinct, I so wanted to watch another gun battle. And then the rest of it was a damp squib. Also very disappointed that Elvis had not been sent off on a top secret mission on the day of his wedding (however unlikely). Discovered he had a kid? - that's just crap.

I still much prefer MK to LT. Better actress, more attractive, more believable.

Ilovelblue · 22/09/2016 16:24

Gosh, there's been a lot going on here today. I've been able to read but not post and I think I will have to wait until I get home to write anything resembling significant.

Did anyone see the link Maddie posted about the spoof access to GL's mobile phone? It showed she was friends with Elvis and CJ on Facebook. I almost wanted to send them a friend request myself.

And yes Rhu a 24 hour hotline to CJ himself - we'd be ringing it at all hours of the day and night, wouldn't we? Probably with the flimsiest of excuses too!

GloriaGaynor · 22/09/2016 16:27

I've been ill and inspired by this thread I watched through the whole first series. I enjoyed it. Love CJ as much as ever, fond of Smurf. I diverge from the majority here in that I still think LT was miscast. She's what put me off the first time round. She's not a very good actress, sort of stroppy and sullen, one facial expression, I didn't warm to her at all. Didn't believe in the romance which I found quite cringey in places. The writer just tried to glue on a Mr Darcy story line. But hey CJ can be my Mr D any day.

cjwoofwoof · 22/09/2016 16:36

I'd like to suggest next weeks episode could be redeemed if it featured another shower scene with both CJ and EH, without any strategically placed towels, and with me in charge of removing dog tags and squirting the shower gel. That's just about what it'll take to keep me interested in this soapy imitation of S1, which sadly is lacking in the dramatic drama of the dramatisation that I normally look for, so a good ogle instead may suffice.
Sad

Rhubarb01 · 22/09/2016 16:36

I make you right on that Gloria he would probably be Mr D for most of us.

MD/CJ - yes it was a stretch of the imagination to think they would get together (fairytale stuff) but we're pretty elastic here Grin. I think that's why I'd really like to see them on screen together portrayed in a settled relationship and have a glimpse as to how it all works for them.
