That's an interesting idea pix. I used to work somewhere years ago that always had loads of job applications from people just leaving the army and the question always came up as to whether they would fit in or not in such a different environment. Some did and some didn't. It would be interesting to see what CJ would choose to do after so many years thriving in an active and adrenalin filled job. Can't see him becoming an Insurance salesman or something like that Hmm

I was interested to hear mention of PTSD last night on the One Show. Does anyone remember that drama from about 15 years ago called Warriors which starred Damian Lewis, Ioan Gruffud and Matthew Macfadayen? It was about a group of UN peacekeepers in Bosnia but that was quite a study in the long-term effects of PTSD and pretty compelling watching if not difficult at times.

Rhu in a previous existence, I think I've said I worked in a large organisation which employed a vast number of ex-Forces staff, mainly RAF but a few ex-Army too. They didn't all settle to civvie street, it had to be said. The officers were used to shouting "Jump" and the staff were expected to say "How high?" It came as a shock to some of them when staff turned round and said it didn't work quite like that outside the military. Having said that, I had worked for a lovely ex-Wing Commander and Squadron Leader and the worst one ever was an ex-Army Major. He was horrendous. I requested a move away from him after about 6 months. I think he'd have had us all on parade every morning if he'd been able to get away with it.

KeziaOAP · 20/09/2016 18:42

I love know what you mean, we had an ex Wing Co who insisted on being called by that title, me being me referred to him as Mr in a memo he called me out on it I asked him why when he was retired.....reported me to mine and his boss for insubordination, needless to say they stuck up for me Smile. The man I subsequently married was his boss Grin

I liked the decision to keep characters from the first series and shift the focus to a different leading character. That could be done again. If they want to keep the focus on the women in the Army, they could have a 2nd Lieutenant fresh out of Sandhurst as the focus for the next series. Captain James would slowly recede into the woodwork over the series, and the Lieutenant gets mentored about the real life by the NCOs of the various sections under her command°°. That will definitely be a different story, because you are looking at the command level, those who give the orders that might kill people under their command.

If anyone has read "Rain" by Barney Campbell, his protagonist is a male, but it's a gripping story about a newbie being sent to Afghanistan and given the command over a group of experienced soldiers.

°°)afaik, that is the real structure: sections led by an NCO, a number of sections led by a Lieutenant, and the company made of the sections led by a captain). At the end of S3 James could be promoted to major.

Evening, late again tonight! Been to see the latest Bridget Jones film and apart from complaining about the cost (when did it go up to £11.45??) and folk playing on their phones and eating popcorn very noisily and coming in at the last minute when they'd been sitting having coffee just so they could charge in as the film was starting.......... it was actually quite good! Lovely and fluffy with a happy ending.

Got about 4 TV recordings to catch up on but unlikely to be tomorrow night.... seems there might be some programme on folks are raving about ..... think it might have a certain Mr Aldridge in it??

kuiakaituhi · 21/09/2016 03:52

Rhu I watched the Warrior series way back when It was made in1999 and set in Bosnia. It's available on YouTube.
I remember finding it really harrowing. Thanks for reminding me I'm going to watch it again...stunning acting, as I recall.
Lots of people of my generation had fathers who served in WW2, as mine did, in the Pacific. No one ever talked about the aftereffects and many families suffered terribly along with their returned servicemen.
I think that was ond e of the reasons why so many of us in NZ protested against the war and our involvement in it, in Vietnam.
One of my proudest achievements is being locked up in apolice cell with several other young women when we got really involved in sitdown protests at the time Vice President Lyndon Johnson came here to drum up support. We got let out the next day, but milked it for all it was worth, saw ourselves as martyrs. My mother was appalled, wouldn't speak to me for days! She was really worried about the neighbours' opinions.

icemistOBE · 21/09/2016 07:16

It's Our Girl day!! GrinGrinGrin

Rhubarb01 · 21/09/2016 07:35

Good on you Kuia for making a stand. Thankfully, that was also one of the conflicts we decided not to get involved in either - I think the experience of the Korean War had been enough for all concerned.

Yes, it's OG Day again Smile - so what exactly is Elvis' excuse?

Thirteen hours and a bit to go.... and counting. This is my favourite shot from last week. It still makes me laugh when I see it.

If I just squint a bit ilove I can imagine leather jackets, flouncy shirts, big boots and swords - it's a close call! I think it's the strappy thigh thing (as woof often mentions - where is she?) that is probably the deciding factor though Grin

You see Rhu I'm not a Musketeers fan so had never even heard of LP so this adoration is new to me. It is the uniform though and accessories which have swayed me I think!

Alwaysfrank · 21/09/2016 08:41

Once again I am out on OG night so will have to defer the pleasure of watching for 24 hours. Bad planning!

I may be being picky but isn't LP a bit bow-legged? Could be just that shot.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 21/09/2016 08:44

Not a Musketeers fan!

I have NEVER seen a series in which the men were so consistently, reliably, beautifully hot. My God, it was like a three-season seventeenth century woman's wet dream.

Ilovelblue · 21/09/2016 08:52

NewCross sorry! I have made up for it though with a 2 year obsession over CJ. Does that help to redeem me in your eyes?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 21/09/2016 09:16

Well, you get marks for commitment and fidelity, I spose. But my, I loved the variety of having three men to choose from Wink

cjwoofwoof · 21/09/2016 09:59

Aah yes OLBINC another Musketeers wench here. I think the phrase used on the Swagger Inn thread is FAF which can quite easily be applied to CJ, EH and Fingers in OG don't you think?

Frank unfortunately Elvis was particularly bow legged that day following an exhaustive morning of my double knotting his thigh strap. I was forced to get on my hands and knees to finish it off but luckily the end result was nice and tight if a little chafey when riding a unicycle Grin

Delphin · 21/09/2016 11:18

"Once again I am out on OG night so will have to defer the pleasure of watching for 24 hours. "
Same here (I record the series through an online service and it takes them a few hours to make it available, so next evening is the earliest time). But I'll be there for the re-view on Saturday? Monday? Do we have a fixed day?

KeziaOAP · 21/09/2016 14:28

Always from riding horse in Musketeers.... although woofs explanation much better Grin

What I want to know where's the last week gone Hmm

Ilovelblue · 21/09/2016 14:49

I think we've spent a large proportion of it on here!

Firegirl · 21/09/2016 16:09

CJ's going to be frowning a lot tonight apparently

pixieg1rl · 21/09/2016 16:20

The trailer showed some epic Sternface arm crossing action

I’m afraid I’ve been hopeless at keeping up with the thread. I’ve just been skim reading since about the middle of the last thread, so I’m trying to catch up.

I’m out tonight again so won’t be able to watch and will have to catch up tomorrow all being well. I’m going to aim to keep the next 2 Wednesday’s free though! Not sure how the story is going to pan out next.

Did anyone see the BBC interview with BA online? He mentioned CJ & Molly were married! I don’t remember seeing that before, or I could have missed it. I hope they do go for a 3rd series, and if CJ is getting bored in the army I’d be quite happy for him to leave the army and the story to focus back on Molly still serving and CJ back at home.

Rhubarb01 · 21/09/2016 19:00

Evening. Well Kuia after you said 'Warriors' was on You Tube I thought I'd take a little gander whilst having a cup of tea this afternoon and you can guess the rest...three hours later. All I can say is, it is as I remembered, compelling, sobering and heart-wrenching. Brilliant cast of now well-known faces although not quite so well known then but certainly not something to watch unless you are in the right mood. I now need to go away for a couple of hours and do some other things to lift mine slightly and no doubt will be back to chat after episode 3.

Hi there,

Have been busy with RL, DS had his 1st birthday on Sunday and DD stated school last week,so not been able to do any watch alongs, but have been trying to keep up with the thread.

Read in my TV guide that they are going to be on R&R before returning home, so that may explain GL's outfit in the trailer.

If there is a S3, then I'm hoping that Molly will be back, they could have it about Molly and Georgie. I was also thinking that they don't necessarily have to have it set in the present, they could revisit what it was like out in Afgan, maybe following someone like Jackie, in the hospital in Bastion, their work was just as important as the people out on the frontline, could even have Smurfs twin brother in it.

Olliepops05 · 21/09/2016 19:16

If there was to be a 3rd series Berlin I would also be happy with Molly returning. However TG during an interview was keen on MK returning to a 3rd series, TG is always praising MK on her acting in OG and how she is smashing it. I think he is a massive fan of MK. I wonder how LT feels about this. Therefore at the moment not sure if LT would be TG first choice.
