2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

38,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch series 2! And that first post is a distant memory.

Join us on what is sure to be an amazing journey over the next 5 weeks

Morning all.

So ..... Friday or Saturday for the watchalong? I think Saturday so we get Rhu in there with her super-analytical thoughts?

icemistOBE · 16/09/2016 07:35

So sorry to hear you news ilove Flowers

Have a great time nick !

Ditto re storm - been up most of the night trying to tackle flash flooding in the garage which is joined to the house and a leaking roof in DSs bedroom constantly drip-dripping on the carpet. Eek! That thunder was so scary I had to tell DH I wanted him to be the last thing that I see. He asked wtf I was on about - "keep sweeping you dozy mare" Blush

Got another OG theory that came to me during the overnight flooding shenanigans - what if the second wedding is not Georgies but the conniving sister's who's snared the dishy doctor during Georgies absence in Kenya? Georgie in fact marries neither Elvis, as she discovers who Laura is just as she's finding feelings for him once more, nor the doc who's gone off with said sister. Hmm

Onlygirljen · 16/09/2016 07:53

Sorry to hear your sad news ilove, just awful. Flowers

Tomorrow is better for me for watch along, but could possibly do tonight.

Ditto rhu on the moment you knew you were hooked - Elvis and the team striding, combined with the look of horror and 'for fuck's sake' from CJ was it for me! Smile

Ilovelblue · 16/09/2016 08:26

Jen and Rhu. Get in the queue. woof and I are ahead of you in the Elvis stakes.

Rhubarb01 · 16/09/2016 08:32

Yes jen most definitely a "Hello!" moment.

Sorry to hear about your flooding troubles woof. Are you sure it was a storm or just too many idle thoughts of captains?

I've been considering the sly sister scenario as well and I'd like to add a little twist - so Georgie finds out about the 'Laura' story and is shocked but in spite of herself starts to feel the weight of Elvis' ahem "charm and magnetism" again but is then conflicted thinking of dear loyal doctor Jamie at home - committed to marrying him and having seven kids (his last name's not Von Trapp is it? Although that was a 'Captain with seven children' - she returns doing her best to seem happy. However, everything that has happened in Kenya weighs heavily upon her and causes difficulties so doctor Jamie ends up turning to sly sister for support and well you can guess the rest. In the end Elvis turns up to save the day at the right moment and doesn't leg it this time (far-fetched I suppose and probably unlikely and I think there might be some shocks at home that we're not necessarily expecting).

I must have too much time on my hands. (I actually don't - I'm just managing it all very badly at the moment - the curse of OG!)

Delphin · 16/09/2016 08:57

Favourite scene in ep. 2?
Georgie slapping Elvis in the face.
"All is well in the world." (I need a WTF smiley).

Only, I agree, the arrival scene was good. Setting up the central conflict for this series, I believe. I think CJ believes Elvis to be reckless (and I am glad that they aren't actually besties, it sounded a bit like that in ep. 1).

pixieg1rl · 16/09/2016 10:01

oh dear woof did you forget to put an order in for your industrial strength tena lady? I hope the flooding is under control now.

Watchalong on Saturday is good for me as well - not that I've watched it about a zillion times already. We will think of you nickel in your damp tent surrounded by cubs.

moojangles · 16/09/2016 10:46

Good luck nickel. Hope all okay woof.
Look forward to the watch-along, definitely slacking here with plot scenarios and rewatching. Can't wait for the weekend,

Ilovelblue · 16/09/2016 11:58

Is this Saturday at 9pm or do we want earlier?

kuiakaituhi · 16/09/2016 15:37

We're due for floods and lightening tomorrow.Have just got up to shut rattling windows. .How about you hop on a plane and help, WOOF,sounds like your sweeping skills are above and beyond.
Bonus is that you can offer dressing room support to both the AB's and the Springboks in the evening. Imagine the surfeit of thighs! Don't usually push the Boks as worthwhile totty, but make an exception for Eben Etzabeth - pic coming-.
If you catch the 3pm direct flight to Christchurch you'll just make it in time. Will meet you at the grounds. Don't take up you baggage allowance with multipacks of Tena, have plenty in stock here. Any other takers are welcome. How about you, Pix, Rhu ?

Richtea19 · 16/09/2016 16:10

I'm having a sneaky re watch this afternoon, and wondering why they asked GL to look at one of their soliders and didn't get Kikki to look knowing she was a doctor?

cjwoofwoof · 16/09/2016 16:47

ilove hope you've had a better day - news like that can be very sobering so hope you've got something nice planned for the weekend to take your mind off.

Pleased to report all wet patches now dried up but roof still not been inspected as DH "too busy at work today" WTAF? Let's hope Mother Nature appreciates his busy schedule and doesn't rain for the next month til he gets round to it Confused Heaven forbid we contact a tradesman. At this rate he certainly will be the last thing I see...before I strangle him Angry Poor DS will have to catch a ferry to get into bed if we have another downpour tonight.

Bah! I'm going to re-watch Elvis in the shower to get over the trauma. That's the kind of overflowing wetness that's always welcome Grin

cjwoofwoof · 16/09/2016 16:52

kuia what a lovely prospect that would be - now that dressing room I wouldn't mind sweeping over vairy vairy carefully Grin Kiwis, Boks who cares - a good cut of thigh action is a good cut of thigh action.

Is my lovely Sonny B still limping? Hope he's remembering which leg should have the brace on Wink

cjwoofwoof · 16/09/2016 17:14

Ooh one more thing I thought of whilst doing my Trigger impression as a road sweeper at 3am this morning...

Why didn't the terrorists notice when they dragged her out that despite Georgie unexplainably changing into normal scrubs in the ambulance, she was still wearing her six lace-hole regulation army boots and khaki t shirt under the scrubs when the 6ft6" stuntman she was thrown into the back of the Toyota? Just saying...

Rhubarb01 · 16/09/2016 18:03

Well, Kuia much as I have to confess I'm not a rugby fan I have actually had close encounters in the dark with about half of the Springboks!

Before we get a little too excited I have to admit that the darkness was a cinema in Edinburgh during the World Cup many moons ago and the close encounters involved being almost climbed over to reach the row of seats in front of me. Yes, they were sitting right in front me thoughout the film but just to finally kill off any other ideas - DH was with me Hmm.

If everyone's happy with a watchalong tomorrow then so am I. I don't mind what time but if 9pm works then let's go for it. A watchalong has to be better than Saturday night telly!

Delphin · 16/09/2016 18:04

"she was wearing her six lace-hole regulation army boots and khaki t shirt "

Does the British Army t-shirt have a flag on the arm like the German Army one? That would be a dead giveaway, then...
More worrying is that Captain James seems to have lost 1 and 3 Section somewhere between Camp Bastion and Northern Kenya... [devil]

Rhubarb01 · 16/09/2016 18:08

Now woof for my latest ponderings - I have to admit that I was surprised the bad guys didn't see GL pulling off her dog tags in the van and stuffing them down her bra. I also thought that she probably had her combats on under her scrubs trousers as she didn't have time to whip them off. They weren't very observant were they?

cjwoofwoof · 16/09/2016 18:15

Ditto Rhu and let's be honest, they would probably have given her a good touch up on the premis of a "hidden weapons strip search" thus discovering said boots, trousers, all things khaki and dog tags. Certainly the English terrorist wouldve even if the Somalis held back.

moojangles · 16/09/2016 18:23

Delphin no flag but regulation issue but also available in surplus stores. Did you watch the German version of OG at all?

Firegirl · 16/09/2016 18:24

I had completely forgotten how fast this thread moves. A day and a half away in the sticks with a crappy signal and I'm pages behind.
ilove just looked on Amazon, 14.99 for the DVD, which seems ok, but it's released on 17 October, so maybe I'll wait till then, still better than Christmas. I have to agree with jen I think it was, scene that did it for me was elvis and co striding in, and CJ saying for fucks sake. That's when I knew I'd be just as obsessed with series 2. I love the friendship between the two of them, I love the way he calls him Charlie. I love how CJ was amazed at GL getting a signal to them. I love how he couldn't believe Elvis had got into the compound. I love it all! And thank you to whoever cast Luke to play Elvis he's perfect! Watched episode one again last night, if I can restrain myself I might save episode 2 until tomorrow's watch along but might need to have one more completely focused viewing before then.

Rhubarb01 · 16/09/2016 18:26

Well I suppose there are limits to the amount of realism that would be acceptable in prime time drama of this kind. I did think that Georgie and Kicki would probably have had some fairly rough and unpleasant treatment and yes I think they would have discovered what was underneath her scrubs but I'm glad they didn't go for that storyline. I suppose it's a fine line to walk between realism and fiction. Too much realism would probably cause viewers to turn off and too much fiction leads to accusations of it not being gritty enough or too ridiculous to be taken seriously. We all know there are things not exactly perfect but, as it's been pointed out before, if you want that you'd better watch a documentary. I'd prefer to watch the Captains myself Grin

Delphin · 16/09/2016 18:28

Suspension of disbelief, ladies (& gents?)! GrinGrinHalo

moojangles · 16/09/2016 18:30

Ditto to that rhu

Firegirl · 16/09/2016 18:57

If they'd found her dog tag straightaway it would have changed the whole storyline about the young boy terrorist finding it, being praised by his bosses and then being made to shoot Kiki, so fair enough. I did wonder if that other boy, Jomo, would feature more heavily this series, a bit like a Bashira character. I can't remember what happened to him after he showed GL where Kiki was, need to watch it again.
