What a way to start.

OP posts:

Great result in the hockey, a real lesson for the footballers! Tom Daley was extraordinary tonight, I think in all the celebrity stuff I'd forgotten what a great diver he is and he's clearly been training hard, I so hope he does well.

JedRambosteen · 19/08/2016 23:05

Steele Johnson 😆

Raahh · 19/08/2016 23:07

cathy- for someone so young still, who has been in the spotlight so long (and had his personal life picked apart), it's amazing Daley is still so level headed when it comes to the competitions, really. Many others would have been sucked in by the media circus and ruined.

JedRambosteen · 19/08/2016 23:09

Tom seems like a very grounded guy. A credit to the nation. We will be tuning in tomorrow.

IwannaSnorlax · 19/08/2016 23:09

Totally agree Raahh - he's had a lot to deal with from a very young age & seems like he's having a lot of fun. Hope he does well as that dive was great.

Wish they were showing it on BBC though rather than red button as our red button doesn't work so stuck watching it on a mini iPad!

cathyandclare · 19/08/2016 23:10

Totally agree Raahh, he has done brilliantly and I would love him to top his bronzes

cathyandclare · 19/08/2016 23:13

I loved Leon's commentary..he's not very Steele tonight, more like aluminium!

Raahh · 19/08/2016 23:15

Leon's commentary was great- they were not taking themselves seriously, but still being really professional with the dives.

Raahh · 19/08/2016 23:44

aww, only just seen the pictures of Skelton getting his medal.Very lip wobbly. He is truly a bionic man.Grin

JedRambosteen · 19/08/2016 23:45

He comes across really well in the interview with Claire Balding and he clearly loves his horse.

Raahh · 19/08/2016 23:49

yy, I like that's it is not about whether Skelton himself continues, but if Big Star can. So connected to the horses.

Fedupofallthemud · 20/08/2016 00:00

I think Skelton's gold is my favourite of this Olympics. Just an amazing story, so pleased for him. I'm not in any way horsey but feel like I've been watching him from years, and to achieve Olympic individual gold on his 7th attempt is just fantastic.
Could barely watch the hockey shoot out, the goalie was just fab! I'd be really chuffed if they win team spoty as women's sport is generally overlooked and they really deserve recognition for what they have achieved

cathyandclare · 20/08/2016 08:29

Anyone understand what went wrong in the 4X400?
I've read three different reports in the news, each saying a different reason for the disqualification. I couldn't see anything on the film. There doesn't seem to be a picture of the infringement, usually we see a still with a red circle of shame!
Horribly difficult.

NoahVale · 20/08/2016 08:35

Again the highlights are number one Bolt, it wasnt Bolt, it was The Team of four, imagine being in That team, i know you have the Gold but you are an Also Ran with Bolt

NoahVale · 20/08/2016 08:44

just saw highlights of the women's relay, love how the GB women are so so very happy with their bronze. it is a record for GB I believe. Grin

but the taekwondo devastating kick in the final Second puts our GB man in silver.

cathyandclare · 20/08/2016 08:46

That final taekwondo kick was heartbreaking wasn't it Noah?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/08/2016 08:46

Well, I watched the interview with the Jamaican team and it seemed pretty clear to me that the other three love Bolt and are quite rightly absolutely in awe of his stupendous talent. It was a team effort, which he acknowledged (and always does), but he is the best sprinter the world has ever seen by a considerable margin, so why shouldn't his achievements be centre stage? Particularly since without Bolt the track and field audiences would probably have been significantly lower. Everybody benefits from having a full stadium and high ratings for the track and field.

Anyway, well done to the UK women's 4 x 100 relay team. Great shame about the men in both 4 x 400 and 4 x 100. I have a very soft spot for Adam Gemili as he is my son's age and comes from SE London, which is our neck of the woods. I think there's a lot more to come from him in the future.

Now on tenterhooks for Mo Farah in the 5000m final tonight. It's a very big ask for him to win that race as well as the 10000m but it will make my Olympics if he does.

NoahVale · 20/08/2016 08:49

ah, i havent seen the jamaican interview, I will let it go then

Igneococcus · 20/08/2016 08:53

I like Usain Bolt, I miss him when he retires. I remember him during the London games when some BBC reporter tried to interview him during a medal ceremony for another event and Bolt told home to wait until after the ceremony and then turned around to watch other athletes get their medals. It wasn't even Jamaican medals. I like this respect he shows to fellow athletes.

faffalotty · 20/08/2016 09:04

The interview with Muhammad after losing gold in the last second was heartbreaking.

NoahVale · 20/08/2016 09:05

The Nick Skelton interview was indeed lovely. I love how he spoke to his son, on the phone, but his son cried for half an hour

RedToothBrush · 20/08/2016 11:26

SATURDAY 20th AUGUST
CAN WE BEAT LONDON 2012’S MEDAL TOTAL?!
Going into today we have 60 medals. We need 65 to equal London. We actually have 2 in the bag that are not officially counted in Nicola Adam and Jo Joyce (tomorrow) in the Boxing. That leaves 3 more to find to beat the tally.

There are quite a few chances to manage it here. (There are not really any serious medal chances tomorrow apart from Jo Joyce’s one)

Looking at the list, I'm going to hedge my beats and say we'll do it. Mo Farah, Tom Daley, the women's 4 x 400m and Liam Heath are really, really good chances and they are not our only ones. Lynsey Sharp looks good and our triathletes are a good shout too.

Today’s GBR medal hopes
CANOE SPRINT: men’s kayak 200m – Liam Heath
CANOE SPRINT: women’s kayak four 500m - Jess Walker, Lousia Gurski, Rebeka Simon & Rachel Cawthorn

meowli · 20/08/2016 11:39

Does anyone know the exact reason being given for the disqualification of the Men's 4x400 team? The BBC studio team didn't seem to be able to see any infringement.

Mirandawest · 20/08/2016 11:47

I don't think anyone knows. I feel sorry for them

faffalotty · 20/08/2016 12:26

The third runner had his foot over a line. Wouldn't have affected the result so very unfair
