Gendry can make swords. #justsaying

EverySongbirdSays · 22/06/2016 23:33

Dragonstone is still there. It's the Baratheon seat, which obviously no longer has an heir in show terms but still in books. In book terms as and when Stannis, Shireen and Selyse die which we are almost guaranteed they will, the heir is Edric Storm, Robert's one acknowledged bastard.

In show they gave Edric's story to....YOU GUESSED

GENDRY.

As far as Dragonglass goes, the Maesters say it comes from the Earth and the volcanic land around Dragonstone is rich with deposits of it. Like coal I suppose Dragonstone is the Wales of Westeros, fittingly.

The smallfolk ie peasants, say dragons made it. Bit of both, probably.

Lots of people can make swords. It's making them the Valyrian way, with the assist of a dragon that's been the problem.

OlennasWimple · 22/06/2016 23:57

Who do we know who has dragons that breathe fire on command...? Grin

Did Margaery know she wasn't going to do the walk though?

How does the Iron Bank make any money? It seems to sell debts in to other pretenders who can't settle up either

Why didn't Melusandre seem old when she was in the bath and Selys came in? No magic choker but not haggard

Do they not grow pubes in Westeros? All the full frontal shots are very well groomed, and if they are using a cut throat razor to prune... Ouch!!

Similarly, does gravity not affect their boobs there either?

How does Brienne know her way around so well? She's travelled all over Westeros over the series. And why was she so devoted to Catelyn Stark in the first place?

Kimononono · 23/06/2016 00:02

Yes is Marjorie playing a game? Did she know what was going to happen to her so played the HS?

SerJorahsSecondChoice · 23/06/2016 00:03

Clash - I suspect seeing Jon risk his life and go against his brothers to rescue wildlings at Hardhome, combined with the fact he returned from the dead, has convinced them he's a special person or a worthy leader.

Every - me too! I am very popular at work during Thrones season explaining stuff to people.

OlennasWimple · 23/06/2016 00:13

Why might Tormund be Lynanna Mormont's father? Just because of his story about sleeping with a bear?

How many dothraki factions are there? Is Dany in charge of them all?

Why did Myrcella have to die? What advantage did it gain the Sand Snakes?

EverySongbirdSays · 23/06/2016 00:14

OK - Iron Bank, as meaningless as the financial system we have, what is it we have other than a big game of debt moving around? Money is in many ways worthless, it only has the worth we accord it.

Brienne ended up with Catelyn after Catelyn was the only other witness to Melisandre's fanjo demon and vouched that Brienne hadn't killed Renly. She swore to serve the Starks as she was a joke in general and had nowhere to go.

Brienne was kingsguard to Renly before. He travelled about with Marg and Loras. Marg was married to him but he was shagging Loras.

I think Marg knew she wouldn't walk only fter she saw Oleanna there

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 23/06/2016 00:18

Myrcella

In the books she's still alive. In the books the Sand Snakes are using the fact that she is older than Tommen to take a run at putting her on the Iron Throne as they don't recognise male premogeniture (sp?) she was last seen becoming facially disfigured in an accident. I'm assuming she must die because of the prophecy, and the show has needed to outpace the book and speed that up. In show terms Ellaria Sand kills her out of revenge over Oberyn

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 23/06/2016 00:23

Tormund said he shagged a She Bear. Maege Mormont was THE She Bear. That's what she was called.

Dothraki - there were lots of different Khals - how many total is debatable, they each had their own "horde" a squad if you like. She's killed all their khals and they have knelt to her so the combined horde is hers.

Like Jon Snow and company taking out "Lord Bolton", Lord Karstark and Lord Umber, the figureheads of their houses, their "banners" should all now kneel to House Stark, whether they will remains to be seen.

EverySongbirdSays · 23/06/2016 00:26

Margery totally played the High Sparrow.

She knew Loras was cracking up and that she had to do SOMETHING to get him out. So she pretended to both Tommen and HS that she was a born again believer and truly devout. She has been believed.

Everyone KNEW Cersei wasn't.

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 23/06/2016 00:41

The Melisandre thing is purely a production continuity error. They needed a means of showing she was secretly really old and chose that, forgetting she'd been seen without on a previous episode.

As to the rest, what on earth do you mean, it's an unrealistic depiction of womens bodies in that type of world???!

I AM SHOCKED.

STUNNED I TELL YOU.

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 23/06/2016 02:18

Thanks Every!

But why didn't Margaery have her hair cut by the stern nun before going to the steps, like Cersei did? No wig budget?

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 23/06/2016 06:27

Because they had already decided before going out on the steps that she wouldn't do the walk of shame

RJnomore1 · 23/06/2016 07:48

I'm guessing there may be an element of trying to keep a young king onside with his pretty wife as well the HS seems keen they produce an heir. Call me cynical.

Middleoftheroad · 23/06/2016 08:10

Every please enter Mastermind, I'm in awe of your GoT knowledge! Enjoying these Q & As

It would be great to see some of the other locations mentioned in the books. I was always secretly hoping The Titan of Braavos would come to life to defend it at some point. He makes The Mountain look like a Lego toy.

TheNorthRemembers · 23/06/2016 08:44

You need powerful magic from Valyrian swords, not the dragons themselves. But magic waned when the dragons died out. Valyrian swords are extremely rare and expensive and they were 300 years ago as well, so very few in the Iron Throne would be Valyrian sword.

pyrowall · 23/06/2016 08:47

Beware of doing books or TV that you live on mastermind as you'll never be able yk watch/read them again as you would have begun to hate them! I know from experience!

pyrowall · 23/06/2016 08:48

TheNorthRemembers · 23/06/2016 09:15

Very late to this, but Littlefinger bringing the Knights of the Vale in at the last minute reminded me of the Lords Stanley at the battle of Bosworth field, who waited to see how the battle was going before bringing their troops into it - GoT is meant to be based on the Wars of the Roses, isn't it?

Loving all the theories.
