I think he will play a big part of ending the walkers, but he will be the king at the end.
In the book there's so much foreshadowing for it.
Mormonts bird has screamed King at him.

From Quora:
Princess Rhaenys's black kitten Balerion is the same bad-tempered tomcat that Arya sees in King's Landing. We're told that that black bastard is the real king of the castle

And more from a tumblr user

Jon is the man who will be King.
Sansa is an afterthought

CaitAgusMadra · 22/06/2016 10:39

Very obvious fore shadowing in the last episode when Davos and Tormund talk about Mance and Stannis and the fact that Jon is not a King yet

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/06/2016 10:53

If Dany takes Westeros and helps defeat the walkers with her dragons, plus she grants Yara the rule of the Iron Islands then I think the rules of succession will face a hefty challenge. Dany could change the power structure so that Sansa or Arya could rule Winterfell and give their children the Stark name - everything could be turned upside down.

I don't think Jon will survive to the end. I think he will die a very heroic, noble death and be left in peace like he wants.

Felascloak · 22/06/2016 11:09

See I don't trust GRRMs foreshadowing at all. He is a master of misdirection IMO. So to me it's too obvious Jon will be king. Unless it's king of the white walkers Grin I'm with brick.

AliceInHinterland · 22/06/2016 11:25

He does have a bit of a Baratheon look about him so maybe he's actually entitled to be King that way? GRRM did tweet that his parents were Robert B and Catelyn, though I think that was a joke. I still think R+L=J or at least someone important then+L=someone important today.

AliceInHinterland · 22/06/2016 11:25

Though he wouldn't be legitimate.

limitedperiodonly · 22/06/2016 11:35

I like the idea that Dany might be mad and Sansa might be bad. I hate the cliche that powerful women want to discuss things nicely rather than saying: 'Just do it or I'll chop your head off.'

bunnysmummy · 22/06/2016 11:55

Felascloak
I'm not sure what Sams significance is but it might be to do with figuring out what they can do with Valyrian steel and how they can make more of it to defeat the walkers.
The throne at Kings Landing is made of Valyrian steel swords. Just need to pull them apart.

Felascloak · 22/06/2016 12:06

OMG HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE AS A FINALE white walkers overwhelm KL and Jon, Dany, and Tyrion are trapped with Sam, he realises they can deconstruct the iron throne to kill them off. I really hope that is it!!!!!!! That would be some awesome symbolism!
I did not know that about the throne, can you tell??!! Grin

TheNorthRemembers · 22/06/2016 12:15

Need That article is great. Thank you.

I am with Wedonotsow on Jon. In the books he will almost certainly rule. Emergency Awesome thought that in the show he might get some of the Young Griff storyline, as in fitness to rule.

Has the prophecy about the maiden savaging a giant in a castle made of snow come true in this episode, or will that be Littlefinger?

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/06/2016 12:15

Limited, I do want to see the women wielding power decisively but I like to think they will do a better job with it than the men before them - like Dany so far has done so much good but hasn't quailed at dishing out a lot of pretty brutal but well deserved retribution. So, no, I don't want to see them having a polite conversation or making catty comments about their opponents' hair - I want to see them rule, but without rape and savagery. I want them to prove that some rulers can deserve power and use it well. I am interested in a conflict within Dany, but ultimately I don't want to see her roasting the innocent. I liked Sansa feeding Ramsay to the dogs, but I wouldn't want to see her backstabbing Jon or murdering Bran. I want them to show the men how they, as women, can be powerful and ruthless but righteous as well.

OlennasWimple · 22/06/2016 12:22

The throne is made from swords surrendered by Targ enemies and forged using dragon's fire - does that make it Valerian steel? (If so, why is it called the Iron Throne??)

feckity · 22/06/2016 12:32

Steel = Iron + extra bits to make it stronger

limitedperiodonly · 22/06/2016 12:39

I want them to show the men how they, as women, can be powerful and ruthless but righteous as well.

I'd find that as patronising as portraying a queen as a silly girl who was interested only in baubles.

WeDoNotSow · 22/06/2016 12:41

I think i said it on the last thread, Dany is a red herring, she's not the fire to Jons ice.
Jon is the song of ice and fire!
R (fire) + L (ice) = Jon

Rowanhart · 22/06/2016 12:49

I am loving the Mormont subplots and how crucial they are to all key players.

Bran is being protected by a Mormont. Danerys was as a young teenager, Jon was saved by Lord Commander Mormont and then a Mormont shield.

I feel like Arya and Sansa will have a 'Mormont moment' sometime soon. Think this is a key plot line.

WeDoNotSow · 22/06/2016 12:51

North I think the giant is LF!
His personal sigil is a Mockingbirf, however his family sigil is the Titan of Braavos.
A giant

WeDoNotSow · 22/06/2016 12:53

Or maybe something to do with the Umbers, as their sigil is a giant breaking free from chains, but apparently in the show, they omitted the giant and it's just four chains

WeDoNotSow · 22/06/2016 13:05

Also, this is what the iron throne of the books looks like...
Lots of swords there

Thanks Wedonotsow.

In order for a sword to be Valyrian steel you need powerful magic which was lost with Valyria in the Doom. Even reforging a Valyrian steel sword is very complicated and very few smiths can do it, hopefully Gendry will be one. Certainly in the books.

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 22/06/2016 13:53

Who is the mormont protecting bran?

JamieVardysParty · 22/06/2016 14:06

I thought Meera was a Reed. Ignoring all the fan theories that is.

PreviouslyMal · 22/06/2016 14:07

Meera Reed and Benjen Stark are protecting Bran.

WeDoNotSow · 22/06/2016 14:10

He'll definitely have strong enough arms T any rate! Grin

Badders123 · 22/06/2016 14:17

Surely wildfire will have to be used to kill off the white walkers!?
I was sure after the last Davos meant the red lady harm, and then the preview confirmed it! ;)
No idea what's going to happen...so many loose ends to tie up. I know it's a double length episode but I still can't imagine what the ending will be!
Also...
Where's gendry!?
Where's arya going? (West?)
Where is Briene headed? (Back to Sansa?)
Is Sansa going to turn on Jon? Has marriage to Ramsey made her unstable?
Argh!
I neeeeeeed to know!
:)
