Shoot me down, but how is any of that racist?

lulumama · 16/01/2007 14:27

i think based on last nights show , the contestants named in the article, if not racist are certainly ignorant...

quadrophenia · 16/01/2007 14:28

refering to someone as 'the Indian' is both ignorant and rascist, it is also claimed that Jack tweedy called shilpa a paki which has apparently been bleeped, CBB are claiming he used the c word but on youtube it is pretty obvious that the word ends in the 'ee' sound

I htink its them being dimissive of her race and hte idea that eating wiht our hands is unclean.

quadrophenia · 16/01/2007 14:29

OP posts:
lulumama · 16/01/2007 14:30

a paki fgs

it is that type of casual racism, where pejorative words are deemed ok, and , 'oh it;s not racist, it;s where they come from ' attitude, that really hacks me off ..it is ignorance and the inability to see further than the end of your nose and not caring about other cultures and their diversity

quadrophenia · 16/01/2007 14:30

been reading about it though and very common with the coil! and i certainly don't feel preggers! that said if i disappear off hear for a while it will probably be me having a 'suprise' baby

So refusing to eat food someone has prepared because you think (and thereby stereotyping)they may have used their hands for something else is not racist?

LittleSarah · 16/01/2007 14:31

Glad to hear about the complaints.

Agree with cod, their whole attitude to Shilpa is disgusting.

quadrophenia · 16/01/2007 14:31

Not read the article but have watched the behaviour in question. I don't think they were being racist per se, but they were/ARE being bullying. Danielle and Jo have made themselves look dreadful and I don't think they are aware of it at all. Not surprised re Danielle.. she seems to have 14 year old mentality all round (bet Teddy has been cringing!) but Jo has really let herself down.

Jade is just Jade and one thing that can be said for her is that she will say as much to anyone's face and did make some attempts and sorting it the greivances with her without a little cliquey audience whereas Danielle and Jo are clearly content to bitch in corners like the pair of nasty cows they clearly have the ability to be, more fool them.

I think Shilpa has behaved with dignity throughout. Good on her.

Caligula · 16/01/2007 14:31

God they sound like a bunch of morons.

And people who refuse to be able to pronounce other people's names because they sound foreign, are just the stupidest of the stupid. FGS what is difficult about the 2 syllables Shil and pa? Both of those sounds exist in English, why is it impossible for this ignoramus to put them together?

fuzzywuzzy · 16/01/2007 14:32

"and hte idea that eating wiht our hands is unclean. "

Am now wondering how they eat sandwiches......

madmarchhare · 16/01/2007 14:32

Agree that it shitty behaviour but Im still struggling with it being racist as such.

Didnt know about Jacks comment though.

LittleSarah · 16/01/2007 14:34

there was also the bit, jo, saying perhaps they reason they were all skinny in India is because they are sick all the time...

The whole thing makes my skin crawl.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 16/01/2007 14:34

and now c4 will be rubbing their hands together as more people will tune in now to see what it's all about.

if people didn't watch this vile crap then they would give up and stop showing it. I serously can't believe there are people who think this is entertainment.

Pablothelittleredfox · 16/01/2007 14:35

I just watched the sky news video thingy - the guy keeps going on about how Shilpa is an A list celebrity dah de dah - surely it's irrelevant whether she's an A list celebrity or Mrs Bloggs off the street? Everyone deserves the same respect regardless of who they are - they are treating her in an atrocious manner and it's not unacceptable because she's made 50 Bollywood movies, it's unacceptable because nobody deserves that treatment.

I fear poor Shilpa is fighting a losing battle though. You can't argue with thickos - you can't get your point across because they just don't get it! Jade and Danielle are as thick as two short ones so if I were Shilpa I'd just stay out of it and not even bother to acknowledge their remarks, never mind try to argue them.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 16/01/2007 14:35

Oh Jack.. good GOD that bloke is thick. Re his "Why do blokes have nipples" question to BB (not a bad question I thought seeing as they HAD to ask something they wanted an answer to) he was heard to utter "it's not like I need them to milk babies with.." (say WHAT?!) and during the answer BB gave him, with a look of complete furrowed bafflement on his face eventually enquired "What's a ^en-vee-o??" (Embryo.) Sigh.

madmarchhare · 16/01/2007 14:36

lol @ saddo fat depressives

fuzzywuzzy · 16/01/2007 14:36

Indian actresses used to be incredibly curvy.....then satellite TV arrived, and the Western view of beauty took hold and now they're (the actresses) are all skinny and the actors are all Muscles.....

quadrophenia · 16/01/2007 14:37
