Why wouldn't you like Breaking Bad?

I'm gutted my brother can't get into it as he hates all the characters. It took me two attempts and I wasn't hooked until season 2 usually we have the same tastes so I'm disappointed really. He said he's not the only one that didn't like it but I'm hard pushed to find another person. Damn, I was really looking forward to talking to
Him about it!

It's a shame I ended up skipping one as I couldn't get into it and then one day I was stuck for something to watch on the train so downloaded two. I didn't stop watching it from then.

I couldn't finish the first episode Confused I just couldn't get over the fact that he couldn't get free healthcare, but then I never like popular shows, Game of Thrones is too depressing, Walking Dead too gory, Empire too eccentric etc, I think I just have a glitch that doesn't allow me to enjoy tv shows

I watched it for a while but couldn't really get in to it. I get why others got sucked in but it was too depressing for me.

TV genius for me. The plot, the beautiful camerawork. Even when it's grim (transparent acid bath, anyone?)

I resisted the hype for years. Can't bear all this 'must see' rubbish. So subjective, obviously.

But I'll go all out for Breaking Bad.

Watched the first episode and a bit meh about it. Everyone says it improves but I don't have hours of my life which could have been spent on mumsnet to watch something that doesn't hook me straight away.

But I don't get most tv, and rarely get desperate enough to see something episode to episode.

I never endorse anything. Tastes are so diverse, theres no point. But this... Good god.

No I didn't like it either. I got to about episode 15 and gave up. I didn't enjoy the story lines or like the characters.

I don't normally like violent or graphic stuff but I loved BB. I just thought it was so clever and the twists and turns were always unexpected. I can see why people don't like it though and it is a big commitment to watch it all. We binge watched it and I think it affected my demeanour for a bit because it is so dark and sometimes you could see what was going to happen but not know how.

Breaking Bad and OITNB are the best tv series I've ever seen. Both written and acted superbly.

Just my opinion though, everyone's tastes are different I suppose.

I tried. I watched all the first series and and episode or two of the second, as people kept telling me it got better. But it wasn't getting any more watchable for me, so I gave up on it.

Watched all the first season but just didn't really like it in the end. There was something a little too dark and morally bankrupt about it that I didn't like. Love things like The Wire and so on, so not sure why I felt just a bit too repulsed by the BB moral universe.

To those who hated the characters - you are supposed to! Then as the story progresses and twists and turns your feelings towards them change and develop into something else.

I don't mind watching stuff where I hate the characters and I love dark stuff but it just bored me - I just didn't care what happened next!

Far too close to the bone for me. It could happen to anyone.

The spiralling degradation and poisonous effects on all concerned in those few scenes or episodes I watched were enough for me to decide it was not suitable viewing in our house (DS was 16 and a few of his friends were fans). For all the skillful camera work, it was basically a freak show aimed to disturb while entertaining. I can live without that.

It's a bit like films about Concentration Camps. Once is enough to make a clear impression. Any more is ghoulish.

I will now prepare for a flaming...

You certainly have to persevere for a couple of series, but it is all background information in getting to know everyone. It is very slow for a bit, but ultimately one of the best series i have watched behind mad men and the sopranos.

I liked it but it did bother me that every one liked jessie, nothing to like about him in my opinion.
