Why wouldn't you like Breaking Bad?

I'm gutted my brother can't get into it as he hates all the characters. It took me two attempts and I wasn't hooked until season 2 usually we have the same tastes so I'm disappointed really. He said he's not the only one that didn't like it but I'm hard pushed to find another person. Damn, I was really looking forward to talking to
Him about it!

I love it and most people I know do, of all ages! But the few who don't are people who want to watch real stuff, they can't enjoy if it seems over the top and far fetched.

I have never loved and hated a character so much as Walter White.

I

DubiousCredentials · 25/05/2016 10:25

I hated it. Watched the first season and about half of the second. It was just so unpleasant and left me with an uneasy feeling watching it.

glassgarden · 25/05/2016 10:33

I got a bit tired of seeing Walter white in his underpants but overall I liked breaking bad

sofato5miles · 25/05/2016 10:36

Found it just nasty, like there was a joke i was meant to getting but no. Loved all 3 series of The Bridge.

Kennington · 25/05/2016 10:40

I found it tedious. We all have crap going on and making drugs which produce nasty fumes isn't the easiest way to make a living for someone with terminal lung cancer. Seemed daft from the outset!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/05/2016 10:41

Well , the 'joke' was the fact unless you're loaded and have megga insurance in the USA you're not going to be treated for cancer.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/05/2016 10:43

Bell- interesting how your loyalties flipped from one episode to the next, wasn't it?Grin

glassgarden · 25/05/2016 10:49

I think the reasons for liking or not liking can be very individual but if you can suspend disbelief and become absorbed then a series like BB is a great form of escapism🌈

BillBrysonsBeard · 25/05/2016 11:33

glass Exactly, it's pure escapism... Not to be taken literally at all.

Dame Haha yes, couldn't keep up! Even right at the end my feelings for him were all over the place.. Amazing when a show can do that.

ShowOfHands · 25/05/2016 12:20

I love escapism. My favourite series is utter fantasy.

Breaking Bad isn't escapism. It's also nowt to do with my dislike of it. As I said upthread, I found it derivative.

BillBrysonsBeard · 25/05/2016 12:23

It is escapism for some of us, different strokes and all that.

ShowOfHands · 25/05/2016 12:56

I was responding to the idea that people who don't like it don't like far fetched or over the top stuff. Ironically, I found its efforts to try and be gritty and real derivative. I might have liked it if it was escapism. I work with some extremely vulnerable people. I suppose I don't see their troubles as entertainment.

glassgarden · 25/05/2016 14:20

I mean just that getting absorbed in any TV show (whether fact or fiction, fantasy or realistic) is a form of escapism.
Purely because you are focusing on what you are watching and forget about everyday concerns for a while.

For me that's what's enjoyable about watching TV/films (or reading a good book) it takes you on a mental journey

diddl · 26/05/2016 16:26

Not my thing either.

My question would be why would you watch it?

How come you can't find anyone else to talk to about it if your brother doesn't watch it?

darumafan · 26/05/2016 17:10

I hated it, I really did try with but when Walt killed Jesse's girlfriend I gave up. I felt that Walt was amoral in the best of times and his illness gave him carte blanche to be truly horrible. I didn't care enough about him to carry on watching it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/05/2016 17:14

That was one of my favourite episodesGrin

MrsFring · 26/05/2016 22:23

It ruined telly for me too. Nothing compares.... until I took a punt on Peaky Blinders; finally, a show that grips me almost as much as BB. Happy days.

icouldabeenacontender · 26/05/2016 22:30

Interested in the 'derivative' comment?
I liked it, although I am finding Better Caul Saul far more enjoyable.

MunchCrunch01 · 26/05/2016 22:34

I didn't like bb, I found it just too sad and broken. Better call Saul was the best thing in it. I hated Jessie, he was so spineless.

AtiaoftheJulii · 26/05/2016 22:40

I didn't like it very much. Watched the whole bloody thing, more out of stubbornness by the end though. Found it really repetitive - someone threatens Walt, so he kills them. Over and over again. Plus everyone was horrible. By the end I was wishing he would just fucking die already so I could stop watching.

icouldabeenacontender · 27/05/2016 10:47

*call even Confused

19lottie82 · 28/05/2016 23:20

The first series is a bit slow / hard work, but it's a necessity to set up the story and develop the characters. Each series just gets darker and better as it goes on!

If anyone has given up after the first series....... Stick it out, you won't regret it!

imip · 28/05/2016 23:47

BB just went on for far too long! I did watch it, but was usually on mn at the same time.

I much prefer shorter series, like The killing ect. I like shows that know how to stop and leave an audience wanting more.

Like a pp, I love peaky blinders. But I hope they stop it after this series. I don't want it to drag out and I then get bored of it, I want to want more!!

EachandEveryone · 02/06/2016 19:54

My brother trued it again and loved it. For about five minutes. Not he keeps texting me saying he wish it would end.

He said its not a patch on the shield.

None of them rival Battlestar Galactica, now THAT was a series.
