I'm gutted my brother can't get into it as he hates all the characters. It took me two attempts and I wasn't hooked until season 2 usually we have the same tastes so I'm disappointed really. He said he's not the only one that didn't like it but I'm hard pushed to find another person. Damn, I was really looking forward to talking to
Him about it!

BB has completely ruined tv series for me. I always end up saying "but it's not as good as BB".

Brilliant. I started to watch just after my marriage ended and it was a (bizarre) comfort to me.

Well you are advised to.
The upshot is the show was going to be cancelled after series two, because popularity was waining, however, the show was given one more chance and it really started to heat up after that. Those giivng it a couple of episodes just wont get into it. I only persevered for as long as i did because i thought i must have been missing something! It was worth it.

Costacoffeeplease · 22/05/2016 11:16

I've never watched mad men or the sopranos either. Watched two episodes of OITNB.... I really prefer to read a book

MrsJoeyMaynard · 22/05/2016 11:24

What, so you're supposed to persevere until series 3 because it only starts getting good after then? Confused

Thanks but no thanks.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 22/05/2016 11:25

I don't mind slow burning stuff either but watching it was a chore. I was gutted - I love binge watching stuff and have recently got into GoT after resisting for so long!

tictactoad · 22/05/2016 11:28

I've watched it. Compelling enough to watch right through but I wouldn't class it as the best TV series ever. I am currently trying and failing to find the time to watch Better Call Saul which is shaping up well.

JustDanceAddict · 22/05/2016 13:42

I never got into it, but DH loved it. He went round to friends to watch the final ep as I wasn't interested. If a series doesn't grab me first off, I cba to persevere.

mercifulTehlu · 22/05/2016 13:54

Really liked it at first but got fed up with it by the end of the second series and couldn't be bothered to watch the next one. I felt that the initial premise of the show was a really good idea but it just felt like it had nowhere else interesting to go after a while. And I agree about not liking the characters. I mean, obviously you're not supposed to like them, but I have a hard time staying interested in what's going to happen to characters if I don't like any of them. I found the same with the Sopranos even though it was very well done.

DaisyAdair · 22/05/2016 13:56

Vocational I initially thought Hank was a buffoon but ended up loving him, he was my favourite character and I too was gutted at what happened to him.

All those people who met sticky ends and all because of one man.

I didn't think BB was slow, I was hooked from the first episode.

Love Better Call Saul too.

DaisyAdair · 22/05/2016 13:59

Costa OITNB definitely gets better as the characters develop and you learn their stories. I really cared about them and can't wait for the new series in June.

SwedishEdith · 22/05/2016 14:08

I've never watched it but I'm put off by all the 'It's amazing!" stuff - I know I'd hate it before I even give it a chance.

Cocolepew · 22/05/2016 14:28

I hate it, DH has watched it three times. I only liked Hank in it.
Couldnt get past the first couple of episodes of OITNB either . She has an annoying voice and it looked like soft porn Confused

Moanranger · 22/05/2016 14:59

A couple of things hooked me from the very beginning: I loved Bryan Cranston in Malcolm in the Middle, and was amazed at how well he portrayed the completely different character of Walt - a truly great actor. Then I also was hooked by the moral dilemma the US health care system puts people in - the best a talented chemist like Walt could do was get a crappy job teaching with inadequate health coverage, but he could make a fortune by synthesising illegal drugs to feed the out of control illicit drugs market in the US. A huge moral indictment of US socio-economics. That drew me in.
Yes, it is on the surface about immoral character, good guys -bad guys, but like all great art, it is many-layered & complex. (I will now step away from the podiumGrin

Nannawifeofbaldr · 22/05/2016 15:09

I have very limited television watching time. There is no way I'd stick with something dire for a whole series on the off chance it improves.

DH and I made it to episode 3 before giving up - TBH we just didn't care what happened.

TheNotoriousPMT · 22/05/2016 15:11

DH's parents both died of cancer, one a couple of months before we tried to watch BB. The show was just too close to the bone for us, unfortunately.

momb · 22/05/2016 15:13

Watched 2.5 episodes, realised that we were watching it because so many people said it was brilliant when in fact we weren't bothered. Stopped.

ShowOfHands · 22/05/2016 15:14

I didn't like it either. I found it derivative and switched off during series 2.

Glitteryfrog · 22/05/2016 15:25

It's good. But it's not The Wire, or Sopranos.

gingerboy1912 · 23/05/2016 21:06

I loved it. Didn't enjoy the first two episodes but love Bryan Cranston so stuck with it and became hooked.

Britnyspears · 24/05/2016 07:39

What GlitteryFrog said.
It was good but not classic. It went on too long too. Should have ended when the chicken shop king pin got blasted in half. The last few seasons were dull and unecessary.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/05/2016 17:39

I'm not sure I could be friends with someone who didn't like BB!

Dh and I were bereft when we finished watching it. We averaged about 3 episodes a dayGrin

witsender · 24/05/2016 20:12

We loved it...we gave up half way through season one because I found the cancer/death part very hard and it seemed a bit depressing. But a few months later we were convinced to try again so we did and got hooked.

witsender · 24/05/2016 20:13

The characterisation was amazing, I was sympathetic to all the characters despite not many of them being traditional lovable.

awaynboilyurheid · 24/05/2016 20:55

Absolutely loved it too , and to whoever said they judge all shows by BB that's exactly what we do, and nothing has matched it yet, although the Bridge is good its not quite quite BB. You start off not liking some characters eg Jesse , only for it to turn round and you love him !
It truly was the best show ever IMHO. Cried buckets over losing some characters too felt like I knew them that's how good the writing was. Wish I could watch it for the first time again !
