Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 24/05/2016 12:53

I don't think Ghislaine should have had a reprieve - she was a car crash this week. Lovely woman, but she couldn't stay.

Tracys smocks are bothering me hugely. Why would someone make that for herself? ? The dreadful sickly blue! The appallingly twee pattern on the yoke! It's like something a 5 year old would wear. In 1970!

SapphireStrange · 24/05/2016 12:59

But Ghislaine won the alteration round and the judges actively loved it. She has flair and originality. Matt last year won largely on his final creation, which was nuts IMO but creative and original.

I know she had two ropey rounds though. I admit I partly wanted her to stay because I like her. I do however genuinely think she had more to give yet.

ElspethFlashman · 24/05/2016 13:02

See I hated that orange thing and thought the judges were bananas! It was all floppy and see through and the legs looked at different levels to me.

SapphireStrange · 24/05/2016 13:14

I hated it too. Grin But they loved it, and then they made the decision to boot her out. Confused

lavenderdoilly · 24/05/2016 13:51

Thank you Haggis. I like the look of those.

TellMeDani · 24/05/2016 14:25

I suppose any shape would do, we used to use a house brick covered in fabric for curtain making. It would be a nice way to use up some scraps from favorite projects.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2016 15:17

She didn't have two ropey rounds, she had two disasters. To send anyone else home would have been a mistake.

SapphireStrange · 24/05/2016 15:18

Semantics. But OK. Not really worth keeping arguing about.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2016 15:32

It isn't semantics though is it? The baby gro was far and away the worst one there. None of the others even came close. Actually, I think I'd go so far as to say it's the worst cock up of a pattern I've seen on the Sewing Bee. poor Ghislane.

Turbinaria · 24/05/2016 18:48

Ghislaine should have played it safe with her 3rd project: simple pattern using lovely material, concentrating on a beautiful finish with a flourish such as a jaunty appliqué or trim to liven it up then Jamie would have gone home.

SunnyL · 24/05/2016 21:59

Oof just caught up a night late again. Why why why would anyone make a babygro? I had a lovely Oliver + S baby pattern picked out for DD2 but never got round to making it because I felt so ill. Now I'm glad I didn't buy it because I'd have hated sewing it.

Loved the capes - only ever made capes for grownups but I love the drama of them

DoreenLethal · 24/05/2016 22:05

The weights are just pyramids aren't they? You could make them from 3 identical equilateral triangles

You'd need 4 not three, surely?

MissWimpyDimple · 24/05/2016 22:38

Either three triangles, or 4 triangles and a square...

MissWimpyDimple · 24/05/2016 22:39

No. Four triangles. Yes. My brain hurts Confused

DoreenLethal · 25/05/2016 06:27

Either three triangles, or 4 triangles and a square

No three triangles wouldn't work. It's a tetrahedron. It needs 4 equilateral triangles. If it was 3 triangles then the filling would fall out the bottom.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2016 07:29

I forgot to count the base :)

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 25/05/2016 11:38

I felt that if they thought so highly of Ghislane's remake they should have put her through over the guy...he did the gilet that did not even fit, and it was his cape that I hated...reversible with patch pockets!!! ....so much fabric on the front I bet the thing was bulletproof.
Really liked the pink one with the appliqué and she was so good with her model, talking about "the walk"

I loved it when Claude was asking Charlotte (??) if she'd made babygros for her children and she said "Don't be ridiculous"

I have still not taken to Angeline, (irish girl) but she really really reminds me of a vile person I used to work with so that's why.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2016 12:26

It's not about liking the garment though is it? Skill wise, his cape and babygrow were better. I think it would have been a farce to send anyone else other than Ghislane home. Poor woman had one of those days - Lord knows we've all had them! There have been times I've had to sew/crochet again and again and again because I've had brain freeze about how to do something. Unfortunately, it's judged on just this week.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 25/05/2016 14:08

it'll all even out in the end ....it's just annoying when they disagree with me! ;)

for me, obviously :o

SoupDragon · 25/05/2016 14:18

I think that with, these competitions, the right ones tend to end up in the final. The order in which the rest fall by the wayside is almost irrelevant. It's the same with Strictly - you end up with the right couples in the last couple of rounds.

I don't think either of the ones who have been "second to last" so far will be in the final :)

SheHasAWildHeart · 25/05/2016 14:20

I always thought Patrick was kinda James Bond-esque. Now I'm not so sure, he looks ill :/

SunnyL · 25/05/2016 14:37

I'd agree with that soup - it feels like a bit of a waste of emotional energy getting het up about who leaves at this stage.

There was a good interview in one of the sewino mags this month with the previous winners about the distractions they were dealing with. As well as being good sewers it seems the winners are are so just good at focusing and getting their heads down

Turbinaria · 25/05/2016 21:55

I think this weeks challenges showed Ghislaine lacked basic sewing skills and knowledge: she couldnt sew jersey and she thought she didn't need a pattern for the cape. So despite her alteration which showed imagination but the sewing of it was poor it was right she went.

TwentyOneGuns · 25/05/2016 22:00

Just to say Monkseal is blogging about this series - hooray! I love his write-ups but would have forgotten about them if someon hadn't mentioned it up-thread.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2016 22:48

I don't get the Monkseal love.
