Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:47

I have no idea what a cover stitch machine is really.

dillite · 20/06/2016 21:49

Joyce's model looks a lot like her.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:50

I think Rumana might go this week.

dillite · 20/06/2016 21:52

Oh dear, looks like Joyce might be in trouble.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:52

Or Joyce actually

dillite · 20/06/2016 21:55

I think it's anyone's game tonight, but Rumana will probably go.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:56

I think Joyce's yoga outfit was worst

CatherineDeB · 20/06/2016 21:56

I really can't warm to Esme.

dillite · 20/06/2016 21:58

Who won? I missed it.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:58

I love Esme and prefer her to May.

Jade seems to have found her feet.

I think I would have sent Joyce home rather than Rumana

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 21:59

Jade won

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 22:00

Awwww... Rumana is lovely :)

dillite · 20/06/2016 22:00

Oooh, there will be another tunic!

HalsallRedux · 20/06/2016 22:00

It's such a funny contest this year. I don't think there's anyone outstanding or obviously a winner, they're all so inconsistent.

MrsSimonNeil · 20/06/2016 22:01

Poor Rumana, she seemed so lovely. I'm amazed how much Tracey has come on, I didn't think she'd last more than a couple of weeks

CatherineDeB · 20/06/2016 22:08

I think Joyce is stronger technically than Rumana despite her loveliness.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 20/06/2016 22:25

I'm unsurprised Rumana went.

I think Charlotte will win, Patrick seems to like her. I find her irksome, I'd much rather Jade or Joyce won.

KittensandKnitting · 20/06/2016 22:28

New here as just found the thread :) the sewing bee is my favourite programme of the week - love the way they care about each other so much :)

I adore Joyce, I'm glad she stayed but was sorry to see Rumana go but I just love Joyce, with her comments and the im off for a "glass" of wine comments at the end of a hard day :)

SoupDragon · 20/06/2016 22:29

If Jade continues her upward trend, I think she stands a chance. Having said that, I agree that there are no obvious winners this year and anyone could go out.

JudyCoolibar · 21/06/2016 08:01

Shame we didn't get Joyce's choice of uplifting snifter after the first day this week. It always makes me laugh when she announces that she's going home to a stiff gin or a Chardonnay or whatever.

BurningGubbins · 21/06/2016 10:10

I think they were harsh with the comments on Joyce's last make. She's a lady of a certain age who made a yoga outfit she'd wear I.e. not skintight. That's not wrong, surely? Though perhaps she should have guessed what they'd expect and pick a pattern more like Charlottes'.

ElspethFlashman · 21/06/2016 10:16

I think Rumana was living on borrowed time for a while.

DH also noticed that the hugs were a bit reserved. No crowding around her in a massive tearful huddle like with others. Maybe it was because she was constantly asking other people what they were doing and going over and seeing how they had done X? Maybe they also thought she should go next?

I really really wish that when they did those voice over explanations about the stitches that they put an animation up on screen. Cos it's impossible to understand. I haven't a balls why using a cover stitch machine was supposedly better last night. I honestly can't follow all that guff about the stitches and the contestants stitches are too small for me to see. So half the time I feel I'm missing a lot.

HalsallRedux · 21/06/2016 11:33

Elspeth, as I understand it, amongst other effects, a coverstitch machine can produce a topstitched hem with a twin seam on the right side and a sort of zig-zaggy effect (non technical term) on the wrong side - so, useful for hemming very stretchy fabrics. It's a different beast to an overlocker, which sews seams and finishes the edges at the same time by trimming off the fabric and neatly overlocking the raw edges.

Both these are more specialist machines and not your basic sewing machines, although I believe you can get overlockers that also do a coverstitch (albeit requiring an outlay of ££££). My overlocker cost about £100 from Lidl Grin

Having said all that, there's absolutely no reason why you can't sew stretch garments with an ordinary sewing machine as most have some form of stretch stitch setting, and you can buy needles for stretch fabric, as well as stretch twin needles that frankly produce pretty much exactly the same effect as a coverstitch machine. So they're showing all the bells and whistles but it's a bit misleading to suggest the the ordinary home sewer needs all these things - they really don't.

TellMeDani · 21/06/2016 11:42

I really really wish that when they did those voice over explanations about the stitches that they put an animation up on screen Is it my memory or did they do that in past series? I'm sure that in general they explained the techniques being used more as well.

RebootYourEngine · 21/06/2016 13:19

This is the first series that i have watched and i am a fan.

Tracey is my fav. Not keen on Charlotte, there is something about her that i dont like but not sure what that something is though.
