Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

Jade is getting better all the time - it's been great to see. And she's less inclined than the others to overreach herself - she's judging nicely what she needs to do to impress.

This was a tough week for judging, though - I think probably they had to send Rumana home as she just kept making technical mistakes, but I'd have hated to do it. I liked her flamingo cost so much I'm almost tempted to go out and scour the shops for 80s skiwear.

I own an overlocker but have never had the nerve to use it, because it scares me.

SoupDragon · 21/06/2016 14:01

I think the judges were right about Joyce's as it just looked wrong - neither loose nor skin tight.

CatherineDeB · 21/06/2016 17:10

I think Joyce just did her own thing again, she wouldn't expect to wear a skin tight affair. I think she is definitely the better sewer amongst them but has been sewing for so long that her way is the only way most of the time.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 21/06/2016 19:05

Joyce's just looked... sort of 'meh'. As Patrick said, it was beautifully sewn, but it didn't look like a made-to-measure custom ensemble. It didn't flatter the model and the proportions were all odd.

They do get a more detailed brief than we see, so I bet that they all knew what kind of fit the judges were looking for.

CatherineDeB · 21/06/2016 19:11

I thought Joyce's looked like something she, or my mother, would wear. Age appropriate for someone who doesn't want a skin tight number.

If she doesn't win it will be because she doesn't listen!

JudyCoolibar · 21/06/2016 19:44

I'm really impressed by Jade. She seems to know a hell of a lot, especially given how young she is, and nothing really seems to faze her. She's also prepared to take a lot of trouble to get things absolutely right.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 21/06/2016 19:45

If they had eight weeks of "sew something that you'd wear yourself" then most of them would have an easy ride through the competition -- I think it's often when they have to sew something that they wouldn't choose to wear themselves that they start to struggle.

TellMeDani · 21/06/2016 20:41

Thats what I thought Tragically the male sewers just didn't get those tiny details on the bra challenge that are second nature when you see a bra everyday.

I think Jade is amazing, she sews fearlessly, I remember being like that at 18 (not nearly as good though) I'd take on anything, if it didn't work then never mind, wear it anyway no-one will notice, it's a good way to learn.

Dp showed me a picture on Instagram and now I'm pretty sure I know who has won. What a prick he is.

Davros · 22/06/2016 15:54

Prick, ha ha. Very appropriate!

I'm mesmerised by Tracey and her bib tunics. Me and ds love watching the opening of the show just to see what will be on the bib! Love Joyce and hope she wins. I liked them all this year.

firesidechat · 23/06/2016 12:30

I really like Charlotte - she doesn't take herself too seriously, has a dry sense of humour and she knits! My kind of person.

Can't stand Tracy though.

firesidechat · 23/06/2016 12:33

If it was a personality contest I would want it to go:

Charlotte
Jade
Joyce
Tracy

But it's not and anyone of them could win.

DontDeadOpenInside · 23/06/2016 12:39

I live this show. I have a sewing machine and can't sew for shit. It gives me the inspiration I need but won't use to make something.

And who doesn't love Patrick? How old is he anyway? Blush

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 14:05

What annoys me about Tracey is how everything she says is so matter-of-fact. I am sure that in real life she doesn't come across like that at all though!

I totally nailed the Victorian Dress from a Bed Sheet challenge by the way. No one spotted it was actually a top and skirt and nobody noticed the odd puckered seam or dodgy stitching! :o thankfully Esme didn't give it a once over with her eagle eyes...

ElspethFlashman · 23/06/2016 14:17

What annoys me about Tracey is that she laughs at herself at the end of every sentence. She thinks she's Victoria Wood!

It's "Blunt pronouncement...HAHA!" And we're left a bit nonplussed.

Whereas Joyce and Charlotte and Jade are more straight faced.

I think Jade is absolutely amazing for her age. She really deserves to have gotten this far.

dillite · 23/06/2016 16:58

So glad to hear that your dress turned out fine, Soup. I ended up using a bed sheet for my daughter's vet's costume as well! It's a good thing I had a spare one lying around.

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 17:02

Bed sheets are a great source of cheap fabric for costumes :)

LyndaNotLinda · 23/06/2016 17:09

I saw a load of kids trailing through town in Victorian costume today Soupy and thought of you :o

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 17:25

:)

KittensandKnitting · 24/06/2016 19:27

Loving catching up on this thread!!

Bed sheets are absolutely amazing for cheap fabric! My mum makes dresses from flowery duvet sets she picks up on sale for about £3. I used the block colours loads in quilting and can make fabulous chevron quilts from them.

My next challenge is to use them for a my little pony outfit :) found a fleecey type affair in blue and will just be perfect :)

Do still love Joyce for the amusement she brings! But she is very much my way or the high way.

tragically get to grips with that overlocker!! My god they are amazing things I've had mine for two weeks and am loving it so much :)

RueDeWakening · 27/06/2016 09:58

I never thought of using duvet sets for costumes - goodness knows why not, I've made shorts, summer dresses etc got the kids out of them before now!

Sad times, my overlocker has gone to hospital, hopefully when it comes back it won't snap every sodding needle I show it within seconds. I have a tolerate-hate relationship with it most of the time, to be fair Grin

Finally caught up from my Sky + recording - though Sewing Bee featured on Gogglesprogs earlier in the week - the alteration round. Most of the kids on Gsprogs were rooting for the Flamingo, they were unimpressed, to say the least, with the others :).

SoupDragon · 27/06/2016 16:35

It's on at 9:30 this evening!
