Have had cats all my life Maddie but never had to rescue one like that before. I did wonder if it was going to be a fire brigade job at one stage. He goes up on the roof sometimes but has a fairly easy route up and down. There are squirrels and magpies in that tree and they're fairly vicious so not sure what made him go so high.

Cooking for the freezer just now then out in the garden for the rest of the day.

Rich been meaning to ask about the bathroom. I think my nerves have just about recovered from all the mess and upheaval. Am chuffed with the end result anyway.

I went to bed far too late and not long been up. Ring MIL and I think the kids are keeping them busy. DH is at the jet car thing he wanted to go to do that should keep him got for a while. I couldn't quite hear knives being sharpened down the phone so I don't think they mind too much I'm not there

My Mum was telling me this morning that one of the family cats kidneys is failing as she had to take her to the vets last week. I think it's because she's losung weight they took her. She's having blood tests done but they've said they're not sure what they can do for cats kidneys so they've prepared my Mum, the cat might have to get put to sleep! They find out Weds I think.

You're slacking Rich not realising Musketeers were back - go and sit on the naughty step reminiscing about all that leather shoulder pad you missed duh! I, on the other hand, was fully aware of all the D'Artagnan-ness oozing out on BBC1 but unfortunately was forced to endure BGT with youngest DS along with an equally miserable DH who wanted to watch the football Champions League final on BT Sport. Ooh I do enjoy family evenings of TV... Luckily I've recorded Musketeers so looking forward to swashing my buckle catching up alone later tonight with some Prosecco.

Ooh well done ilove I take my hat off to you climbing such a ladder. I get dizzy sitting on a bar stool so that cat would've still been up there this morning if he was mine. Although I like the idea of mads suggestion of calling the fire brigade, maybe after I'd attempted to climb said ladder and got halfway up before losing all my clothes and getting stranded also

I didn't realise how washed out I would feel today. I suppose it's coming down from the adrenaline high. When I looked out of the kitchen window when I was cooking, I realised just how far up the tree I had had to go and remembered how carefully I had to come down one-handed.

Lovely tweet from Mr A. Do we reckon that's it now till Christmas! He does post very sporadically. Got to confess it's only the first one that does it for me. Backwards facing baseball caps do not float my boat. That said, the combats and headset have perked me up for the rest of the afternoon!

Been pottering in the garden and it's really quite hot! Need to whizz out to the supermarket before they shut at 5 as I need to do some baking tomorrow. That, some ironing and helping the 15 year old on his Duke of Edinburgh stuff will keep me busy all day I think.

Kelly sorry to hear about your Mum's cat. It's a common illness in older cats (and dogs) unfortunately. My previous two cats both had to be put down because of kidney disease - but they were 18 and 19 when they died.

Why do men insist on doing the job that's in front of them and not the job that needs doing first? MrP has done bugger all packing today, instead he's out in the garden potting up seedlings.

pixie you're not alone on the order of jobs. Our loft ladder hatch thing has been down all day, im short so no issues with banging my head, however DH has been ducking all day rather than putting it up, but he's been playing with the new boiler controls!!!!

ilove far from being done in the bathroom. Boiler and pipes done but still no bathroom.

Ilove ah sorry to hear about your previous cats. This one's 16 but hasn't done a days work in its life (haha) she so spoilt. She's literally a second daughter to my Mam. She'll be beyond devastated if the worst happens.

Watched Suite Francoise earlier. Fab film and Matthias in uniform is a very yummy sight.

We've sold a kidney each and are going to Centre Parcs in Woburn Kelly. I'm a terrible one for fretting about getting everything packed. After a life of moving house every 3 years you'd think I'd be better at it

Jealous of all of you that have had a nice sunny day, it's been cold here. Wasn't too bad yesterday, but DD was ill, so confined to the house.

Whereabouts in the country are you Heli? You've probably said and I've forgotten. My memory span over these past few weeks has been complete rubbish.

I was thinking before when we've had news of filming in Bolton and Manchester, I wonder if there will be anywhere we want to go as a result - as we did with Bailbrook House in Bath? Was one of the places Manchester Town Hall ice? And did you ever discover where that stately home was? I wondered about Adlington Hall near Macclesfield.

Morning all.

Sad news overnight that my Mum had to get one of her cats put to sleep that was starting to get kidney problems. Apparently it's breathing was bad and when they got there, the kidneys had failed altogether. So my Mums in bits bless her. At least the cat didn't suffer.

Just got back from food shopping as the brood are back today. One twin's still chesty so if it's an A&E job when they walk through the door.

I've enjoyed being home alone heli thanks. For some reason my alcohol consumption has gone through the roof this weekend

So sorry to hear about your mum's cat Kelly. It's the saddest responsibility of being a pet owner. Three years ago we had to have both of our cats put to sleep within a month of each other and it doesn't matter how much you know you are doing the right thing it still makes you feel terrible for a while. Sadly, a vet told me that these days if your pet survives to old age it normally ends with having to make a sad decision. You just have to look back and remind yourself that you gave them a long happy life. Hopefully in time your mum will remember all the funny, happy moments.
