Corrie thread - How many more implausible plots until the new person takes over? NO SPOILERS PLEASE

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/04/2016 20:03

Have started a new thread as the old one was nearly full and people wanted a "No spoilers" message in the title.

Are we placing too much hope in the new producer? How the hell are they going to get out of the plot holes?

I read the other day that the Les Battersby actor was seen at the studios. I am hoping that was a bad-taste April Fool's joke.

I didn't watch all of last night so I don't know if Sally was aware of the 'no nuts' error in advance. If she was then why didn't she scrape it off beforehand? If she wasn't then the whole scene was a damp squib with no humour whatsoever. I actually wondered if the actors didn't know what was coming and had to improvise. Unwatchable moment!

Hygge · 19/04/2016 08:19

I always wonder if that's Izzy's real voice or if she 'does' a voice, because she kind of growls some of her lines out "ooorrrr noooorrrrr, it's urrrrrrlllll murrrrrr furrrrrrlllt guuuurrrrryyyy"

It's like when I lived in Somerset for a while and they all thought that's what everyone from Yorkshire sounded like so they used to do that voice at me to make me feel at home.

Sally's snobbery at full volume is annoying me now. It's not funny, they do it better when they are more subtle with her attitude.

Tyrone and Fizz being nice to Maria and letting her babysit is odd after everything she did to them. I appreciate people can forgive her for her behaviour during her breakdown, which was a terrible storyline anyway, but still, would you really have your ex-girlfriend ex-stalker in your house looking after your children?

I think it goes with the way they totally change people's personalities to suit the storyline. Eileen being a cow to Anna about Phelan, then Anna being a cow to Izzy about being in pain. I was actually quite glad that Izzy growled that back at Anna, that she tried to understand what Anna did with him for Gary's sake. People are never normally held accountable for past behaviour in that way.

MadHattersWineParty · 19/04/2016 08:45

The actress who plays Izzy was born and grew up in Morcambe, Lancashire so I have no idea why she sounds a bit odd accent-wise! I think originally they introduced her as a temporary character.... Five years or so later, still there Confused

Where is that Rana girl who kept hanging around making eyes at Zedan then miraculously got a job in the medical centre?

hildasmuriel · 19/04/2016 09:04

The Maria story is hacking me off. When Graham married Xin the whole story was about the steps they had to go to to convince immigration. Maria thinks getting engaged and moving in with another man will suffice. I'm less convinced then immigration would be!

I do like the sarcastic, quarrelsome Platts though.

RainbowCake · 19/04/2016 09:23

I was distracted by Sally's fuchsia jacket last night, why on earth was she wearing that whilst at work? Surely that's not the most practical or comfortable thing to wear to stitch knickers.

I think that actually kind of proves how far corrie has slipped as that was the only thing I thought aboutHmm

eddiemairswife · 19/04/2016 09:47

Sally has got to dress as a councillor all the time.

Stuck to my guns and stopped watching it 10 days ago - reading in here, looks like I've missed nothing!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/04/2016 12:05

Hello all - I'm back from my holiday, had a look at the Sky planner and it hasn't recorded any episodes while I've been away. Is that a sign???

I've missed 2 and half weeks, there is no way I am going to bother catching up with it.

Have I missed anything vital? Any real acting? Any sign of a plot?

I've read the thread so I'm not hopeful of a miracle.

millimat · 19/04/2016 12:36

I can't think of anything that you've missed!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/04/2016 13:26

Thought as much. I am pleased not to have spent the time watching dross.

Liz McDonald is pretending to be Amy's mum (at great cost to her because Amy demands money to keep up the pretence) to impress the 'Dad' of a boy at Amy's choir or play or whatever it is she's doing at the community centre, because she doesn't want to seem old by being called Grandma.

Except the 'Dad' is so obviously also paying his 'son' because he's really the boy's Granddad trying to act young to impress her.

I'm not sure if we're meant to know he's not "Dad" yet, but it's blindingly obvious, unless the boy is the worst actor ever. "Amy can't pay for my dinner, can she......Dad?" said in a tone of voice more suited to gangsters demanding 'insurance payments' from terrified victims.

Other than that, you haven't missed anything.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/04/2016 13:35

Oh God, Hygge. Two weeks away and that is the most gripping plot? I despair.

Oh ty been collecting junk metal to sell after Mary saw him trying take junk to the tip. Exciting conversations over old hair dryers old shelves etc. The junk is now in their yard. They need £300 for taxi liscence - suspect it's actual worth about £20.27p then he fake yes got enough to fizz. Queue more hand wringing.

Did you catch up on the not going happen wedding between caz and who ever? Now Sophie and caz keep bumping into each other and are not talking - till no doubt they make up.

desperatehousewife21 · 19/04/2016 14:30

Nicks temper makes me laugh though because I have a temper like that and I don't have a brain injury! I thought that was normal....

eddiemairswife · 19/04/2016 15:12

Anne Maria has returned from Cyprus with a gay Argentinian she has married, but is now engaged to Luke.

Rachel0Greep · 19/04/2016 17:30

Yes Anne it is a sign Wink. Hope you had a lovely holiday.
I've given up on Corrie over the last week or so. Saw the last ten minutes or so of it last night and it was enough. It's a shame that it has gone to such a low. There is not one story that interests me, and I just end up gazing at some characters and thinking how pointless they are.

Love it Hygge Grin
The thread is far more entertaining than the programme, that is for sure.

southeastdweller · 19/04/2016 18:07

Welcome back Anne Smile

The only good thing for me about the past two weeks of Corrie was the conversation yesterday between Saint Anna and Izzie but even allowing for that I wouldn't bother watching the episode. I'm hoping things pick up a bit when Steve returns on Friday.

eddiemairswife · 19/04/2016 19:39

Steve is probably the only character that I really care about. I was very moved by the depression storyline and I think he has a lovely relationship with Amy. I care about Roy too,but he is AWOL at the moment.

Rachel0Greep · 19/04/2016 20:09

Yes, I will watch to see Steve's return; he is one of my favourites.

enchantedfairytale · 19/04/2016 21:24

The izzy storyline is just awful.

Surely there are real and genuine difficulties in being a single mum, working, and having a disability? Confused

It would be nice to see them and to really feel we care about someone.

hildasmuriel · 20/04/2016 07:49

enchanted you are right, there are lots of day to day difficulties a person in Izzie's position would face and so many things they could look at. Actually the pain story is not a bad idea but it is being written in such a sensationalist way, the arrests, harsh treatment by police etc. If it was handled more sensitively it could be an interesting exploration of how pain is controlled as how the law operates in such circumstances.

Plus I will wager money that Izzie suddenly forgets all about her pain one day as goes back to being a shadow character in the background.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/04/2016 15:37

If I was Luke I'd have been worried about Pablo - Maria does have form for sleeping with gay blokes Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/04/2016 15:38

Oh Steph just made that joke. I'm catching up after two weeks away. Lol at 'Will and Grace'.
