Corrie thread - How many more implausible plots until the new person takes over? NO SPOILERS PLEASE

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/04/2016 20:03

Have started a new thread as the old one was nearly full and people wanted a "No spoilers" message in the title.

Are we placing too much hope in the new producer? How the hell are they going to get out of the plot holes?

I read the other day that the Les Battersby actor was seen at the studios. I am hoping that was a bad-taste April Fool's joke.

How did Tyrones truck crash into the platts house
I'm just catching up. Seen bits of previous episodes and watching the repeat on now but missed that bit

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/05/2016 11:17

But remember Dylan when they were getting ready and everyone was drinking champagne and Carla was on the coffee saying she was changing her ways.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 29/05/2016 11:20

And maybe she didn't want a repeat of this

Ahh nugget good point. I missed that. Still not sure why Ty and Fix went out for a shopping trip in a tow truck.

Akire · 29/05/2016 15:14

I watched crash 4 times still can't work out! Carla tried run Tracey off turned at hit dev shop fine makes sense. Then about 5 seconds after Ty drives around the corner and crashes? When Carla had crashed on pavement so taken up far less of pavement than a normal car so not sure how they got around corner then turned 45degress in the plats. he must have been speeding or how else would cause accident when Carla had already stopped the car?

BoGrainger · 29/05/2016 15:51

He kept talking about his shoes, did he take them off and they got stuck under the brake or something ?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/05/2016 15:52

I kept rewinding to see how the crash could have happened and it just doesn't make sense.

Neither does it make sense that a drain cover in what was a garage (i.e. built to have vehicles in it) collapsed under the weight of the truck.

BoGrainger · 29/05/2016 15:53

Good point about the cover Anne

Optimist1 · 29/05/2016 16:46

Yes, Bo , he took off one (if not both) of his shoes when he got into the pickup truck. Don't know or care much why!

And Anne should be promoted to Chief Detective without delay - very good point about the weight of the truck.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/05/2016 17:02

Do I get a badge, Optimist?

OP posts:
seeyounearertime · 29/05/2016 17:33

I used to work as a manhole manufacturer, believe it or not.

the manhole looked like a garage classed 5tonne pressed steel jobby. Likely a FACTA AA 1.5Tonne Loading. These are rated and designed to allow a single wheel to travel over the cover without showing more than a 3mm(ish) deflection or bow.
Tys lorry didn't move, it sat on it and exerted far more pressure than the cover would allow, it bowed, buckled and failed, Tys wheel fell into the hole. A lorry like tys would probably need at minimum of a FACTA Class C, typically rated for a 6.5Tonne loading.

But it may have been a BS Kitemarked cover with a C250 loading, which is stated to withstand a 250kn load. These are designed for carparks and the like where vehicles will roll a single wheel over.

So basically, even in a garage it may well have fallen through under Tys lorry weight, all manholes are different, some can take more of a pounding than others.

Now please shoot me for being the dullest person on the thread.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/05/2016 17:46

seeyou - on one hand I am amazed at your knowledge and impressed at the power of MN. On the other I am pissed off that Optimist will now take away my detective's badge.

OP posts:
seeyounearertime · 29/05/2016 17:54

Sorry Anne. you can have a different badge maybe?
one that reads "No1 Corrie Fan" perhaps? mind you, who'd want that badge right now...

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/05/2016 18:59

No thanks seeyou. I'll pass on that.

The badge was only ever in my head anyway, Optimist never actually offered me one.

Could I have a "I hate most of the characters" sash instead?

OP posts:
seeyounearertime · 29/05/2016 19:13
Grin

if you have the sash i'll have the "storylines are bollocks" Tshirt.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/05/2016 19:17

That t-shirt could be our thread uniform!

OP posts:
Mandp76 · 30/05/2016 00:39

Oh my God. Loving this thread so much! And where are you all getting this backstage gossip from? Why don't I see it anywhere?
Tracy was more concerned about losing her Robert than Amy! I really like Amy's character now. Her and Michelle are lovely together. The whole Carla story turned out disappointing though. Love the Platt banter. David is hilarious!

Rachel0Greep · 30/05/2016 07:06

We could have a lot of fun coming up with slogans for tshirts and sashes! Grin

Optimist1 · 30/05/2016 07:49

Sorry about the badge, Anne ! Your thought process was impressive though, as was seeyou 's detailed knowledge of manhole covers. I've decided that awarding badges is a task requiring more than I can give, so will limit myself to verbal honours henceforth.

MadHattersWineParty · 30/05/2016 08:40

Corrie won 'Best Storyline' at the soap awards for (drumroll....)

CALLUM'S REIGN OF TERROR!

Confused Hmm

seeyounearertime · 30/05/2016 08:51

MadHattersWineParty

Thats insane. his reign of terror was little more than a toddle being a meany.

MadHattersWineParty · 30/05/2016 09:06

seeyounearerthetime absolutely insane, agreed. I can barely remember what he did to be honest. The other half of the award for storyline simply said 'Sarah's Baby'.

Whatever that means.

I wonder if they imagine us all on tenterhooks at the edge of our sofas and biting our nails Confused

MadHattersWineParty · 30/05/2016 09:06

Sorry, that should say seeyounearertime. Odd autocorrect!

seeyounearertime · 30/05/2016 09:19

from what i can remember of Callums "Reign of terror" he stood around, whispered a bit, got other people to do what he wanted and basically came across as about as threatening as a mildly annoyed kitten.

It's ridiculous to get an award for such a damp squib that no one cared about.

Meanwhile, Eastenders has had all sorts of drama going on, but i dont watch EE, kind of wish i did TBH.

GetHappy · 30/05/2016 12:17

Sorry just catching up on posts!

my theory is Jason will get arrested for Callum's murder, Todd knowing that Jason didn't do it, will go to Police and blame Tony (evidence was when Todd and Tony got rid of Callum's car) Jason gets off the hook. Has too many bad memories and leaves the street
