Ooh BK that could be fun! :)

apsara03 · 26/02/2016 21:23

Ah the joys of world book day - trying to persuade DS2 to go as saucepan man from the far away tree as his teacher has said no Star Wars :(I do understand where she is coming from but given the number of Star Wars books s0DS2 does read, it makes no sense to him - as a 6 year old he has no concept of the difference between books that become films and vice versa. Think we might be expected to dress up - now where can I get 18th Scottish outfit from? though I think we meant to dress as characters from kids books - we had lots of hogwarts teachers last year

pixieg1rl · 26/02/2016 21:26

Our school have said no dressing up this year, so I've avoided it for now. He does have to dress up on the Friday for French day though. Maybe a little Gerard Depardieu?

Nickel45 · 26/02/2016 21:28

Saucepan man ... What a brilliant idea apsara, my DS wanted to do diary of the wimpy kid, so I found a fab costume I could make, and now he's decided to go as Tom Gates - basically just wearing his own stuff! DD want to go as Frankie in Frankies Magic Football! Very thankful i don't have to have a costume!! Shame about the Star Wars though :( Maybe you could go as Molly, or does it have to be can actual book rather than ff? Wink

mads how was your first week back? How did littlie get on? X

icemistOBE · 26/02/2016 21:32

My 6 yo is refusing to dress up on World Book Day, he can be a robber ( can't remember the books they've been learning about) so easy as anything as he's said no

Oh if fanfic did count... I so love to go in combats and black t shirt

MaddieMoo82 · 26/02/2016 22:06

It was ok thanks nickel, work hasn't changed and hasn't taken long to get back into the swing of things. DS seems fine apart from refusing milk and not really sleeping at nursery but seems to be having fun. Hes just exhausted by the time I get him home.
His nursery is dressing up for world book day but luckily it's not a day he goes!

Ilovelblue · 26/02/2016 22:39

Evening all. My two charges are now in bed and asleep. It reminded me a bit of Whajeb's 'Kinship' when Sam managed to extract more bedtime stories out of CJ. I ended up reading three each (though the older one can actually read quite a bit himself). They were looking at photos of themselves on my phone and surprise, surprise, came across more than one photo of CJ. I quickly dismissed him as an actor and whizzed onto the next photo of the two little brothers.

Had a response from the spa hotel we were in last weekend offering us a 50% discount on another break so I've just rung my friend to see if she wants to take up the offer. I think she's ever so slightly miffed I've had a response. For some reason, she was expecting them to send a survey to fill in, at which point she would have slated the service and I've beaten her to it by writing direct. I think we may go in June. I'll ring the hotel on Monday.

Glad your first week back has gone ok Maddie. Bet you're glad it's the weekend though!?

pixieg1rl · 26/02/2016 22:47

My son never took milk from from anything other than me Mads, have you heard of reverse cycling? It's very common that they wont take milk from anyone else. Exhausting for you because basically they do all their feeds in the evening and overnight. Perhaps MrMads could do the dinners while you have a rest and do the feeding.

MaddieMoo82 · 27/02/2016 07:46

Morning all Smile
Thanks pixie I had never heard of that before. He is fine in the evenings but has upped his overnight feeds again so I guess that's probably what it is. Sleep is overrated anyway Hmm

Have a good day all, no exciting plans here and weathers not great either. Might go and have another look at those lovely BA pictures! Grin

BK28 · 27/02/2016 08:57

Morning...SW looking a bit grim and grey! Just facing a pile of work and washing! Only good thing maybe is an afternoon of Rugby!! Any excuse to escape the drudgery of daily life!!

mads hang in there ..in the bigger scheme of things it is only a short period of time, but for now it feels like hell!

Have a good weekend!

Alwaysfrank · 27/02/2016 09:04

Morning!

Lovely Facebook pics upthread- do we know where they were taken?

All the talk of world book day makes me really really glad I no longer have anyone in primary school! I simply don't have the imagination or skills to whip up a costume out of nothing. And all my kids have hated it too! I'm the same with parties- we were invited to an 80s themed 50th recently and I was actually relieved when I realised we can't go as it saves stressing over fancy dress.

cjwoofwoof · 27/02/2016 09:35

Years ago my DS took the prize on WBD dressing as Captain Underpants. Piece of cake outfit-wise - just put his pants on over trousers and used a t towel as a cape. He wasn't impressed with the prize though - a book! These days the mums are much more enterprising with full length gruffalo outfits and cat in the hats. I thank my lucky stars mine are all at secondary school now as a pair of old pants just wouldn't cut it these days Confused

Glad first week back is under your belt mads - time to have a relaxing weekend and quality DS time Flowers

Only got DH working on the kitchen today - trying to hide my disappointment but looking forward to AT coming on Monday Grin

Ilovelblue · 27/02/2016 09:36

I hate fancy dress parties Always. I always manage to find an excuse not to attend!

There have been a couple of "trending now" threads about World Book Day and generally non-uniform days at school I think the WBD one is still ongoing.

Where was that golf club where BA was yesterday. He looked particularly divine I thought (though very young!!)

Kelly I will send you a PM with the shepherd's pie recipe. I meant to do it last night when I was babysitting but forgot, sorry.

Ilovelblue · 27/02/2016 10:01

I think it's a record for this winter - we seem to have gone for five whole days without rain!

Going to clean the car now, inside and out. It's a tip. No doubt that will make it rain!

moojangles · 27/02/2016 10:12

ilove said golf club is in Essex, my Mum's garden backs onto it!!!

moojangles · 27/02/2016 10:15

Outlander downloaded and ready to read at the hairdressers. Have a good day!

KellyHb · 27/02/2016 13:27

Afternoon all.

Well I am now the proud owner of a denture even though every time I try to talk I'm whistling like a canary!! Shock

They couldn't do a route canal as everything as the root under the tooth was no good so tooth out-denture in for three months. The tooths connected to a pallet which sits at the root of your mouth. Its awkward and eating is a bit of a bugger but has to be done. I just need to get over this whistling noise every time I speak! It cost £170 and I've told them I'm not going for the implant idea so looks like I'll go for the bridge option in a couple of months time.

ilove thanks for recipe and it sounds pretty easy. When I can eat properly I'll have a go.

I haven't heard anything about WBD from kids school. I'll look into it next week.

mooj is it just the first book you've downloaded? I'm going to ring Amazon next week and find out what the craik is. I mentioned my plan to DH and he didn't say much so hopefully I'll have the go ahead.

Off out now to get my Mams birthday present for next week and buying lots of soft foods while I'm out. Its strange that I'm hardly eating since yesterday at the dentists and I don't miss all the rubbish I would eat really. I think I was eating more snacks out of habit. Maybe this could be the healthy kick I need??!

MaddieMoo82 · 27/02/2016 13:45

Oh kelly glad you are making progress with the tooth. Will the bridge option cost a lot? Hope it's not too uncomfortable for you.
mooj let us know what the book is like when you have read a bit.

moojangles · 27/02/2016 15:05

Book is an easy read, quite enjoying it-only bought book one though. I blame you all for my inappropriate response to "blood of a black cock"Grin

Onlygirljen · 27/02/2016 17:04

Is anybody else having problems getting on the thread? This is the first time today I've been able to and the posts aren't showing in order..Hmm

We have a bad case of toddler vomit today, he started in the middle of the night Confused. Interested to know what the Outlander book is like mooj, been thinking of downloading it too.

KellyHb · 27/02/2016 17:05

Thanks mads. I'm going to try and have some tea tonight and see how it goes but I sounded weird when I was trying to talk to a staff member in Next. Heyho. Not sure about the bridge cost yet but it should be cheaper than an implant.

Yea mooj let us know about the book Smile

apsara03 · 27/02/2016 20:02

I quite enjoying the outlander book. Like mooj says it's an easy read. The series is pretty close. It's quite long over 800 pages and I think is the whole of the 1st series and the 2nd follows the 2nd book dragonfly in Amber

pixieg1rl · 27/02/2016 20:13

Ok Amazon prime users, will someone please enlighten me on how the whole thing works?

So far I know I have to pay an annual fee. Are box sets/FIL's extra on top of that? Once you have them do they sit in your account forever like Kindle?

Also how do you watch them? We have a relatively old tv (not smart TV, BT box attached to slowish rural internet), would I be able to watch on that? If so how? Or willi be confined to watching on an iPad/tablet?

moojangles · 27/02/2016 20:14

Am now over my original annoyance with the way the Scottish accent is written
