Which children's TV Series did you remember from your childhood?

I came across a book I bought as a child The December Rose. I loved the series. Around that time I recall it was quite standard for the BBC to produce a brilliant series for children.

Ones I can recall (though not sure if they were all bbc) are:

December Rose (obviously!)
Moondial
Box of Delights
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrode

There were more I'm sure can anyone remember other ones (obviously different ages will have different memories!). More impressively can anyone recall what day they were broadcast on?

Moondial was weekday, during children's tv hours I think, and Box of Delights on Sunday evening?

a series called "Maggie" (I remember the themetune , something like she won't work in a factory though parents think she should. She prefers University ......Maggie

Dramarama
Chocky
The Red Hand Gang
Little House on the Prairie

Costacoffeeplease · 21/01/2016 19:17

Ask the family Smile they were always such swots - and the children wore the same style of clothes as their parents!

Noregretsatall · 21/01/2016 19:25

This is a bit of a strange one... Does anyone remember a TV series (c. Early to mid 70s) about a child, ill and confined to bed who used to draw things and they came to life? Seriously spooky it was but that's all I can remember about it.

paddyplaistow · 21/01/2016 19:35

Notregs - was it called Charlotte Sometimes/Charlotte dreams or something like that ? I remember that series. It was very creepy.
I liked Tripods and Wait till Your Father Gets Home.

SnakeWitch · 21/01/2016 19:37

I remember microsoap! I think the girl who was in it is married to Dom from Dick and Dom now.

Animals of Farming Wood,Round the twist, The Raccoons, SMTV with Ant and Dec, The Biz (set in a stage school) there are so many!

paddyplaistow · 21/01/2016 19:45

or maybe Marianne Remembers/Dreams. This is one long senior moment. sheesh.

Noregretsatall · 21/01/2016 19:55

You're not far off Paddy. I've just googled it, not really any expecting any worthwhile results to come up (because of the long rambling description I stuck into Google!). It's called Escape Into Night adapted from Marianne Dreams (book) and is available on Amazon on DVD! That is definitely one to buy! I remember those stone sentinels she drew with one eye! Freaky! I was 8 years old.

Callmecordelia · 21/01/2016 20:03

The Girl from Tomorrow and Tomorrow's End were both brilliant Australian Sci fi.

Plus all the usual ones mentioned I also loved Dark Season and Century Falls. You don't get anything like that now....

MyBootsAreMuddy · 21/01/2016 20:05

WhispersOfWickedness was the second one your thinking of
Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left?

It was an Australian series about a family from planet Zyrgon who escaped to earth after the father was accused of something and the punishment on their planet was awful. The girl was the family organizer and therefore in charge of all decisions and head if the family. They had weird names they had to change to earth names. I think the girl was X the little boy (who was ridiculously intelligent) Qwark? and Dovis the elder sister.
The parents were a bit airhead and odd.
Some freaky black eyed guy 'The Chief' and a lady with buggy eyes and pursed odd lips comes after them (and scared the crap out of my little brother).

I loved Round the Twist and Skippy.
I'm from NZ so most of the ones mentioned here I've not heard of.
Hotshotz
Keep Cool Till After School
The boy from Andromida
What Now?
Chit Chat
Under the Mountain
Shortland Street.......Not strictly a children's series but watched it as a teenager.

Callmecordelia · 21/01/2016 20:05

Oh and I don't think anyone else has answered this - the school where the children were running a business and ignoring the national curriculum was The Boot Street Band.

ijustwannadance · 21/01/2016 20:23

I used to get scared just from the chock theme tune!
Most of my best have been mentioned, like cities of gold, Dogtanian, round the twist etc.
Bravestar, she ra, one were flash gordon has a son/phantom has a daughter(can't remember name), thundercats, eerie indiana, heartbreak high, hong kong phooie, woof, johnny briggs, jossie's giants, press gang.

I have so many theme tunes in my head now, especially bloody supergran.

breezeharbour · 22/01/2016 08:20

The wild house! I absolutely loved that show Smile

Davros · 22/01/2016 09:00

We loved Wait Til Your Father Gets Home
As well as UK kids' TV there was:
Star Trek
I Dream of Genie
Bewitched
Man From Uncle

jonquil1 · 22/01/2016 10:35

We weren't allowed much tv :( but bagpuss is still my all time fave Smile I really loved those little mice..vbg.

Speaking of which, bikermouse was great, too.

And I think those are all my memories of childrens' television.

blackbunny · 22/01/2016 11:12

This is an obscure one but does anyone remember kids' programme called"Joe"?
It was a cartoon but using still pictures,Joe was a small boy wearing dungarees and his family ran a transport cafe
Never repeated, never featured in any of those nostalgia programmes, never remembered...

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/01/2016 13:16

Costacoffee, I've never come across anyone else who remembers the Double Deckers, I was beginning to think they were a figment of my imagination.

So many great series on this thread. Some of my favourites:

Come Back Lucy
Skippy
Dusty's Trail
Timeslip
Midnight is a Place
Grange Hill (early series!)
A Traveller in Time
Thursday's Child
H R Pufnstuff

Was there an earlier version of Five Children and It? I seem to remember watching it as a older child/teen which was long before 1991! The 'Joe' programme rings a bell, blackbunny, but I can't remember much about it. And I'm sure there was a storytelling programme which dramatised tales from around Europe - I can remember the theme tune but not much else.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/01/2016 13:18

Oh, and the Flashing Blade, how could I forget? It's right to fight for what you want...
