Which children's TV Series did you remember from your childhood?

I came across a book I bought as a child The December Rose. I loved the series. Around that time I recall it was quite standard for the BBC to produce a brilliant series for children.

Ones I can recall (though not sure if they were all bbc) are:

December Rose (obviously!)
Moondial
Box of Delights
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrode

There were more I'm sure can anyone remember other ones (obviously different ages will have different memories!). More impressively can anyone recall what day they were broadcast on?

Moondial was weekday, during children's tv hours I think, and Box of Delights on Sunday evening?

Wizadora, we adore her. she's the one who can brighten up our day!

And The monster cafe, slightly scary at the time but couldn't help watching it!

Shakey15000 · 17/01/2016 22:13

Tripods?? You don't mean the Triffids do you?

FairNotFair · 17/01/2016 22:14

The Moon Stallion

Children of Fire Mountain

Annoying dubbed (German?) series about an orphan boy called Silas. It had dramatic theme music in which he galloped a horse through the surf on a beach.

(See also "Heidi" for annoying dubbing)

IrenetheQuaint · 17/01/2016 22:14

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds! Gosh Aramis was dishy... and Milady was incredibly sexy and dangerous. Impressive for cartoon animals really!

FairNotFair · 17/01/2016 22:15

Irene for sexy cartoon animals see also: Thundercats.

SnowBodyforrrrm · 17/01/2016 22:15

Oh oh oh and the Wild House!

Moln · 17/01/2016 22:15

Well there was the Triffids - was that children's one though (even though I did watch it). Tripods was on the bbc

Silas - I'd totally forgotten that. Remember the opening scene though with the horse - not the music though. May look that up!

And pirates, with the nan from the Royle family!

Squeegle · 17/01/2016 22:19

Oh yes Carries war, I couldn't remember what it was called. Loved it.
Another one I loved: not really a children's series but very spooky was Sapphire and Steel. With Joanna lumley and David McCallum. There was one WW1 episode I still remember very clearly.

Moln · 17/01/2016 22:20

It really was dramatic!!

There were quite a lot of annoying dubbed programmes in the holidays in the 70s. Some things I don't miss!

StrumpersPlunkett · 17/01/2016 22:27

Oh my brother used to love supergran

BobandKate0 · 17/01/2016 22:28

Codename Icarus - it actually stands up to being re watched,it was about a maths kid tricked into helping build atomic bombs - never been released on uk dvd, i tracked it now on a vhs release from the usa .

AFingerofFudge · 17/01/2016 22:40

Battle star Galactica
The Ghosts of Motley Hall
Black Beauty
Cities of Gold
Lassie
Chortlon and the Wheelies
Bonanza
Lone Ranger
Road Runner

And then I was weirdly obsessed with this French soap that was shown twice a week , once dubbed and once in French with subtitles called
Chateauvallon or something like that.

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/01/2016 22:41

Ooo, wonder if anyone can help me out with a couple that I remember vaguely, but can't name...
One was about a school where the children were running a business without the knowledge of the adults, whenever the teacher left the room, they would open their desks and turn the room into a busy office Smile There was a bumbling, clueless, elderly headmaster.
The second one was about a girl who was possibly an alien or a time traveller, I think she ended up in the future, where there were a lot of skyscrapers and it was dark and there were a lot of flying vehicles and they couldn't go to ground level for some reason Confused The thing I remember about the girl is that she had a very severe ginger bob.
They would have been on in the early 90s, I would have thought, probably BBC my mum thought itv was common
Other programmes I loved were Maid Marian, Round the Twist, Demon Headmaster, Grange Hill and Byker Grove Smile

bsmirched · 17/01/2016 23:03

The Moon Stallion and Come Back Lucy.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/01/2016 23:08

I would love to see Codename Icarus again.

Re Chateauvallon, I remember a new French teacher asking hopefully 'Qui regarde Chateauvallon? ' - cue deafening silence...

heavenlypink · 17/01/2016 23:34

Very vague recollection of The Phoenix and the Carpet (???)

Schools programmes: How We Used to Live. Look and Read - The Boy from Space freaked me out!!!

I lived where Supergran was filmed!

mimiasovitch · 18/01/2016 00:08

What about Chocky, and the follow up Chocky's children. I remember loving these, but absolutely nothing else. Couldn't tell you another thing about them, apart from that in one episode a boy looked out of a window. My observation skills are superlative.

bringthethunda · 18/01/2016 07:03

Helensburgh, it wasn't the legend of Tim Tyler, was it? Me and my Bro and sis used to love it. Badly dubbed prog where a boy traded his laugh to the Baron (?) in exchange for him granting him anything he wished. Eg.he would say I wish there was an elephant in the park and one would appear. There was a drunk man and a crazy nun who would pair up to help Tim out, cue banjo music when they were both in a jeep together

FairNotFair · 18/01/2016 09:45

OP - it's even more dramatic than I remembered. Terribly energising for a Monday

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/01/2016 09:51

I loved How We Used To Live so, so much. Not least because my wonderful teacher used to follow it by telling us about his own experiences at the same time as the programme was set, eg the 'holiday with pay' episode, how before paid holidays his mum used to set tinned food aside for months in advance.

Moln · 18/01/2016 10:11

How We Used to Live really was amazing.

Going to sit (crossed legged) on the communal carpeted area (which was a random bit of carpet next to the dining area) and the giant box of the TV being wheeled in was the best the thing in school!

Does anyone remember Catweasel? I loved the foreign dubbed shows. One was set in a forest with a girl and white horses. Anyone know what it was called?
