I am episode 3 and GOD its good! I so wish i had seen it before Xmas so I could take my time a bit - very Serial style

OP posts:
Effendi · 18/01/2016 06:12

Me too Johnny. Can't stop googling.

Strictlyobsessed · 18/01/2016 19:25

Have just finished this anyone else can't stop thinking about Steven and Brendan ? I wanted to applaud the two lawyers that tried so hard for Steven and on the flip side slap very hard the awful one that Brendan first had before he got a decent one. The poor parents it's just so so sad. really want them to get out. The murder is still out there too, its horrendous.

Strictlyobsessed · 18/01/2016 19:36

And yes I do believe the lack of ANY DNA evidence in the trailer is one of the main factors, how could two country hicks one with an obvious learning difficulty manage that ? Why was all the blood in the car not tested for the preservative ? Stevens blood sample had obliviously been tampered with. So many more reasons "finding" the car so quickly and the only one with a camera, police calling in the car before it was "found" surely they must have a retrial?

kirinm · 19/01/2016 07:45

I've found the series seriously harrowing. I feel desperate it sorry for Brendan and still utterly disgusted with the conduct of those involved in the prosecution and in Brendan's case, the defence.

We are re-watching the series now to pick up on anything we missed.

Teresa's brother definitely seems to enjoy the screen time. It's all so disturbing.

TooOldForGlitter · 19/01/2016 22:26

I've been off work ill today and I've watched this from the start up to episode 7. I'm in bed now thinking about it. It's just awful. That poor kid Brendan 😔 just awful how those two cops fed him line after line and he didn't know what they wanted to hear, ugh it's upsetting me just to write it down.

I don't think SA is a good person, at all, but I do not think that he committed this murder.

That smug big haired forensic bitch sitting there smirking while she testified. And the e-fit drawing man. 😠😠

kirinm · 19/01/2016 23:41

So many horrible people involved. But Brendan's lawyer and the investigator that his lawyer appointed and bullied him into signing another confession take the biscuit for me. I just do not believe Brendan did ahuthing and if the confession hadn't been admissible, he'd be free now.

TheRegularShow · 20/01/2016 10:47

How can Sherry Culhane (forensic 'expert' ) have possibly kept her job after that?? Its so disgusting.Angry

So she claimed a hair of Steven Avery was found on clothing worn by the rape victim which was untrue, so she put him away the first time when it Steven Avery wasn't even there

Then 18 years later she contaminates the evidence on the second case so the defence cant examine the evidence but even though the evidence is contaminated she can definitely say it has Steven Averys dna on it.

She sits there testifying looking smug even though she admitted she has contaminated evidence. You would think you would be ashamed knowing you have messed up on a big case and be apologetic but she seems cocky about it!

She is either grossly incompetent or deliberately falsifying evidence to get the result the police want and she should be in jail if that is the case

Poppytime · 20/01/2016 11:50

I'm on episode 9 (I think - penultimate) and and have also found it fascinating. Haven't googled yet so don't know what is latest and whether they are going to appeal/have a re-trial? I am conscious that the makers of the documentary want us to feel a certain way but that aside there just are so many unanswered questions that I can't believe the jury could conclude Steven definitely murdered Teresa. And in Brendan's trial I can't believe how the brother turned around the girl (Kacey?) saying she made up her statement to say she is lying now to cover for Brendan - can't accept that she is now telling the truth and he didn't have anything to do with it I guess... I would have investigated the ex boyfriend and room mate much more if I was the police....the ex boyfriend in particular didn't come across well I don't think

TooOldForGlitter · 20/01/2016 18:32

I'll admit that I didn't know anything about this when I first started watching it. I'd just heard and seen things online and thought I'd give it a go. I actually thought it was one of those mockumentaries and sat there moaning about how unrealistic it was.

I think it was one of SAs lawyers who said that he hoped he had done it because the thought of what the man was going through if he is innocent was too much to deal with 😔

Strictlyobsessed · 20/01/2016 18:50

Yes it was SA lawyers that said that , I think his two lawyers were traumatised, I really applaud them and there fight for the truth, he also said no one wanted to take on a whole police department but unfortunate that's what they had to do. Has anyone seen the picture of Theresa holding a huge set of keys ? I always thought it was odd to have one key , no one really keeps their car key separate do they?what about her house key etc without a doubt someone planted the single car key.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 20/01/2016 18:56

That picture is linked to on another thread current last page:

Incidentally I do keep my car key on it's own keyring by itself as I don't like to have them all jingling when I drive.

TheRegularShow · 21/01/2016 14:33

What is strange is Barb (Stevens sister) married Scott tadych.
Scott didn't hide the fact he hated Steven and said ' he got everything what was coming to him' and voiced several times he thought Steven did it.

Barb originally went mad when Brendan confessed and she said she hated her brother for what he had done to her son.
Then she was convinced they hadn't done it and has even said she thinks Theresa is alive somewhere.

It's a bit strange she would marry someone who openly tells people Steven did it (and Brendan was involved) harming the chances of people believing they are innocent if Stevens own family say he had done it.

Him voicing his opinions at the trial have harmed Stevens (and therefore Brendan's chances) of anyone believing them.

I just think it's strange she would marry someone who testified against Steven and then if Steven was guilty on the basis of Brendan's confession then Brendan would be guilty as well.

BeccaMumsnet · 21/01/2016 16:38

I started this yesterday and steamed through 5 episodes.
I only stopped because I really did have to sleep. Hopefully will finish tonight.

Totally agree with what's been said about Brendan. Poor poor kid Sad

BeccaMumsnet · 26/01/2016 15:07

Oooh killed the thread Blush

Sorry everyone.

Johnny5isAlive · 26/01/2016 16:08

I'm just getting into the Serial podcast (I think someone posted about it earlier here too) and this is fast becoming my new obsession

BeccaMumsnet · 26/01/2016 16:22

Johnny5isAlive - ditto. On the final episode now. I never thought to listen until I finished watching MaM. It's really very good.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 26/01/2016 16:56

where and how do you listen to the podcasts?

Becca you didn't kill the thread, the one on chat was just a lot more active so I've been on there although that's all gone a bit quiet too now.

Cheers! that's my evening sorted.... :)

Johnny5isAlive · 29/01/2016 16:47

Loved Serial just as much! (Maybe more due to exciting recent developments).

I'm moving onto The Jinx now Smile

Lindt70Percent · 03/02/2016 18:01

Both fascinating and frightening.

As a web developer I particularly enjoyed this article:
observer.com/2016/02/making-a-murderer-7-hilarious-things-wrong-with-ken-kratzs-website/

BeccaMumsnet · 04/02/2016 09:44

That is possibly the worst website I've ever seen Hmm

How can anyone take him seriously? He doesn't even sound like he's convinced himself of the stuff that comes out of his mouth.

Johnny5isAlive - what's The Jinx like?

TheRegularShow · 04/02/2016 16:37

The ending of the jinx left me feeling very disturbed , I won't give it away but it's worth watching

BeccaMumsnet · 04/02/2016 16:56

For some reason, I thought it was on Netflix. Can't find it now.

Where have you been watching it Johnny5 and TheRegularShow?
