I went to check US netflix for the Jinx - it's not on but I did watch The Central Park 5 instead. 5 black kids aged 14-16 convicted of rape and assault by coerced confessions. I wonder how many cases there are out there :(

OneMagnumisneverenough · 04/02/2016 20:55

Sorry, should say that the fact that they are black is relevant as the victim was white and it was therefore a massively high profile case. At the same time a black woman was raped and thrown from the roof of a building by a black man and it barely made the news. Shock

One thing about thing about the jurors. I suppose those who wanted to go for 'not guilty' felt that was because of the evidence that pointed to a police cover up. That then put them in a difficult position because they knew what the police were capable of therefore were probably pretty scared to go against them. I know it's not the way to do it but if there was a real belief that they'd framed SA so successfully, what's to say they wouldn't have some after them had they not convicted him?

It's a sad day when you realise you can't trust the police.

I don't know if SA killed Teresa but i definitely don't think he got a fair trial.

And i'm also confused that SA and BD seemed to be tried for two separate crimes - BD for killing the victim in the trailer which blatantly didn't happen.

Poor poor woman. I don't believe we'll ever find out what really happened to her.

I'm keen to listen to the Serial podcast but don't seem to have the right app on my phone. Can anyone point me in the right direction (too many choices in the App Store!)

I thought originally we were going to find out the brother or ex boyfriend had been involved. As soon as the brother talked about grieving for her when she had only just gone missing was so suspicious! The ex boyfriend looked quite shifty too. I've read online that he stalked an ex girlfriend. Someone was phoning Teresa a lot, my money is on the ex boyfriend.

I thought it was weird that her family didn't seem to show any emotion at all. Even when the awful things that had apparently happened to her were being described, there was nothing from them at all.

How SA got found guilty when there wasn't a single drop of blood, a hair or anything to show that Theresa had even set foot in his home. There is no way blood could have been cleaned up from that amount of stuff in the garage. And it would have seeped down the cracks. It was also never explained why her blood was clearly in the boot of her car, she had obviously been put in there.

My money is on Bobby Dassey and Scott Tdayak (however you spell it) or the ex boyfriend/person who was harassing her. Bobby and Scott were quick to provide each other with alibis that didn't add up time wise and quick to point the finger at SA.

Brendan never had anything to do with it. When they were trying to get him to tell them about her being shot in the head, he was clearly guessing when they were saying "something happened with her head" and he was saying things like cutting her hair etc.

He had wrongfully been in prison for 18 years, was set for a huge payout, met someone he wanted to marry, I cannot see for a second that he would have done this at all. The whole thing was shocking.

Brilliant . Ken Kratz though.... His voice.... That is all.

Johnny5isAlive · 10/02/2016 12:12

FranKubelik do you have the Iphone? If so then click the Podcasts icon (purple square) and search from there. Also, a more recent series about Adnan Syed (the Serial storyline) is 'Undisclosed'.

If not an iphone then I'm not sure

Johnny5isAlive · 10/02/2016 12:14

BeccaMumsnet....I might have accidentally downloaded the series from Pirate bay or similar Blush

FranKubelik · 10/02/2016 13:49

Thanks johnny5. I managed to work it out in the end - somehow I'd hidden the podcast icon. Listened to series 1 of Serial over the weekend - really enjoyed it. I'm also up to date on series 2 - not as compelling as the first series but still very interesting. Thanks for the tip on Undisclosed - that's my evening sorted.

Kreacherelf · 13/02/2016 21:15

So, apparently Steven was guilty of murdering her in the garage... Whereas Brendan was guilty of murdering her in the bed?!?

Wtf?

Deux · 14/02/2016 01:47

For anyone who is interested, there are 3 podcasts about the Steven Avery case conducted by a former FBI criminal profiler, Jim Clemente, and former Scotland Yard profiler, Laura Richards.

I've still not gone beyond episode 4 of Making a Murderer. The podcasts are very interesting as they discuss facts and details of the case that are not covered by Netflix. They are called Real Crime Profile and available on iTunes and Soundcloud.

Jim Clemente and Laura Richards also feature in a couple of podcast episodes of Truth and Justice with Bob Ruff, re Adnan Syed.

A quick apology, I said in an earlier post that The Jinx was on Netflix, sorry I made a mistake and I watched it on Sky.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 21/02/2016 11:04

I am so late to this it is bloody brilliant. I loved Serial too

Just finished episode 3 Shock and now Netflix is down Angry

Alfieisnoisy · 21/02/2016 16:28

I think that although they have focused on Steven Avery (who I think is guilty btw) the real issue in this case is how Brendan Dassey was managed.

He didn't have a straight story from start to finish.

Do I think he was involved? Yes I do but I suspect he feared SA.

Did he get a fair trial? Absolutely not.

And we didn't hear nearly enough about poor Theresa Halbach who was murdered so brutally. She was the true victim of this documentary.
