Following on from thread one.

OP posts:

But it must be horrible to be judged harshly if you're a sensitive flower who's worked hard on a dance. And your partner isn't supportive, I suppose.

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 10:14

I would rather stand there alone than have Tess clutching my hand.
Grin

AnyoneButAndre · 18/10/2015 10:26

Tess is there to make sure the judges run to time and baffled/shell shocked slebs go in the right direction up to the Clauditorium.

Has anyone seen the episode of DWTS where Marie Osmond fainted dead away in the middle of being judged? That's the kind of scenario where you need a competent live anchor on the spot.

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 10:28

I am sure they could get one of the judges to get it to run to time. It would be less annoying. Plus cut out Tess's waffle and that's loads of time saved.

CaveMum · 18/10/2015 10:31

I guess the problem with ha the music I that they will be under pressure to use "modern" stuff rather than traditional music. I'd be happy if they did use nothing but traditional music but I understand that casual viewers might not like it.

So pleased Anton was top for the first time in, well, ever!

AnyoneButAndre · 18/10/2015 10:37

Oh god no, don't make the judges compete their own judging. Len's annoying enough without being given the power to tell the other judges to shut up now because it's time to move on, Craig could do it but Len would thump him the first time Craig tried to shut him up. Bruno couldn't do it because it would ruin his carefully built up reputation for wackiness, and every feminist bone in my body revolts at the implications of Darcey doing it.

Live compering is a difficult professional skill. God knows I don't rate Tess, but she's much better than any amateur - did anyone see Anton trying to do Hole in the Wall?

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 10:40

I think she's awful, there must be loads who could do it soo much better. Zoe Ball for instance, someone who can ad lib and think on their feet. I love it when I have sky plussed and can whizz through Tess and all the cringey crappy 'in practice' VTs.

GruntledOne · 18/10/2015 10:45

Another one here who didn't really see anything passionate in the interaction between Jay and Aliona. I felt that if anything her attitude was slightly maternal - she seemed to be trying to comfort him.

Fiderer · 18/10/2015 10:46

What was all that slurpy facing and clutching between Aliona and Jay? Yuck.

Maybe she's gone slurpy loopy by having a decent dancer and then he messed up so she was consoling him with her "I Can Still Win! Don't Give Up!" but still, yuck.

Loved Claudia's reaction to PA's hug.

Fiderer · 18/10/2015 10:48

Grin x-post

What's wrong with a manly pat on the back and a tightening of the arm around the waist?

PooSweats84 · 18/10/2015 10:51

I totally agree that they should promote Zoe Ball and hoof the horrible Tess out. She makes me cringe! The way she gushes, grabs contestants hands when they clearly don't want to be anywhere near her. Don't even get me started on the way she pronounces 'Joodges' arrrrgh! Zoe can somehow manage to gush and be supportive without it being cringworthy, and I get the impression the judges and contestants alike feel a bit more of a connection to her on the weekday shows, so it'd give a better feel to that part of the show overall.

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 10:54

Totally agree Poo. Plus if something went wrong you know Zoe would be OK. She isn't stressful to watch like Tess where I am ready to hide behind a cushion cringing all the time. She's not a relaxing watch.

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/10/2015 11:02

Life in Tess Daly's house....
Kids get up from breakfast table. Tess: "oh they're on their feet!"
Guests get up to leave. Tess: "oh they're on their feet!"
Tis very annoying.

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 11:03

I think Bruce writes Tess's script. It's exactly the same.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 11:05

Claud or Zoe would be much better. Grin

IthoughtATMwasacashpoint · 18/10/2015 12:25

I've just watched Jay and Aliona again. To me he looked uncomfortable throughout the whole thing. I don't know if Aliona made it a bit too complex, whether his knee was hurting or whether there was just too much pressure but the enjoyment wasn't there this week.

She does seem rather more maternal than rampant towards him, maybe he's insecure.

I do wonder though, how much of the shy, quiet act is real or whether it's a little disingenuous. There's a momentary change of expression sometimes.

GrouchyKiwi · 18/10/2015 12:38

To be fair to Tess, I think she's MUCH better than she was, and if they stop giving her jokes she'd be a lot more watchable. The piece where she introduced Carol was nice.

Loved Katie, Jamelia (she was great!), Georgia and Anita. Thought Helen's looked odd and don't understand why she was scored so highly. Ainsley danced beautifully, and it's always wonderful to watch Natalie waltz. Pondre (thanks, Monkseal) was overmarked as usual.

I think Kirsty and one of the middles will be in the dance off. Maybe DO'D.

Inkanta · 18/10/2015 12:39

'What was all that slurpy facing and clutching between Aliona and Jay? Yuck.'

I know!!

She was all over him. They look too close - could be the Strictly curse again I thought.

herecomesthsun · 18/10/2015 12:47

Helen is like a rampant Barbie doll, in some ways very sexualised, but very stiff at the same time.

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/10/2015 12:52

I sort of agree here, she's so obviously acting the raunchy bits, it's not wholly convincing. But also she's quite good. I'm conflicted Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/10/2015 12:53

I also agree with Grouchy I think Kirsty will deffo be in the DO, ill be surprised if she doesn't go

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 12:56

Grouchy I agree about the over marking of PA I thought 'oh have they seen something I haven't?' Very stumpy AGAIN, no subtlety.

I luuvrve Natalie she 's good for Ainsley, that was a nice waltz.

I thought maybe Eliona was keeping poor Jay from bursting into tears like a mum as a pp said.

AnyoneButAndre · 18/10/2015 13:09

When it comes to PA there are five possibilities I guess:
A) we loathe him so much we are unable to appreciate that he's dancing fabulously
B) his charisma comes across much better in the studio than through the TV
C) he's getting huge amounts of votes so the judges need to overcook him so they don't look stupid when he wins by a mile (Darren Gough and Chris Hollins are examples of this)
D) He's getting zero votes so needs to be overmarked to keep him safe (the Lisa Snowden effect)
E) they think it will cause more drama to have him bigged up as a front runner, especially when they knew Jay was a ringer with a decent pre-existing fanbase who might otherwise make the series a tedious foregone conclusion - of course that was before Jay's QS went horribly wrong

GrouchyKiwi · 18/10/2015 13:18

I don't loathe him. I'm more ambivalent, and have lovely adolescent memories of "Mysterious Girl". Grin

PooSweats84 · 18/10/2015 13:25

He's too aware that he's quite good. When he finished his dance last night, no hugs for his dance partner, but he turned away from her to give the crowd a wave and cheesy smile instead! Also, I reckon Claudia might be immune to his charms judging by her brush off last night in the 'Clauditorium', made me like her all the more!
