Following on from thread one.

OP posts:
Inkanta · 18/10/2015 14:06

Well I hope you're right about Aliona just being a mum to Jay, but what 25 year old man allows his mum to be all over him kissing and cupping his face and holding on like a limpet. But my instincts say she's acting more like a lover and that he is complicit.

GruntledOne · 18/10/2015 14:27

I always feel Tess deserves to be cut a bit of slack due to the years she spent having to be constantly alert to cover up for Brucie whilst coping with him pawing at her. No-one gets paid enough to compensate for that.

KurriKurri · 18/10/2015 14:30

Can't bear the mentioning of every family member that PA goes in for -I'm glad Claudia shut it down.
Mind you it is getting to the stage in the competition where the families start getting wheeled out - Kelly played the Nan and Granddad card like a trooper last night Grin I did enjoy Katie's lovely cynical teenage daughter though Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 14:32

I would like Tess to be cut enough slack to enable her to go and get a job on Loose Women instead. Smile

ilovesooty · 18/10/2015 14:35

I think Kirsty will go in the dance off unless she's up against Jeremy and the judges mark on what they see.

Fiderer · 18/10/2015 14:54

I think Helen and Daniel are hosed down after each show and returned to their boxes back stage.

Then on Fridays they're re-booted and programmed with some version of the dance of the week.

emotionsecho · 18/10/2015 15:03

When Zoe Ball stood in for Claudia last series she made Tess look so bad and amateurish, I do wish they would dump Tess and have Zoe instead.

Yes we had the grandparent card played by Kelly and the wife card played by PA, are they the BBC's favourites by any chance? All rather X Factor sob story stunt, I don't like it - stop it please BBC.

The music overall was awful, a truly difficult ask to choreograph the dances to the music, again who chooses/decides the music and the dance for each couple? I don't advocate purely traditional music as some modern music lends itself to certain dances very well, but last night some of the choices were beyond the pale.

Some of the outfits are dreadful too, wardrobe clearly hates some of the celebs/professionals. Kevin needs to sort his trousers out, it is NOT a good look.

I think Kirsty and Brendan could well end up in the Dance Off, Brendan may have a lot of fans but I don't think Kirsty is endearing herself to the public.

The80sweregreat · 18/10/2015 15:15

The music is sometimes really good, then we have a week where it doesn't seem to fit the dances at all. I know Dave Arch has a tough job, only a week turnaround and lots to do with so many celebs still in the show, but dancing to U2? a lot of these dances are donkeys' years old , they should have more old fashioned music really. When they use traditional paso or tango music the judges normally say how much better it is too.
maybe leave the more modern music for younger dances, like the American smooth.
I do like Claudia, Tess isn't that bad really, she is an improvement on Brucie who I was never keen on. She can be annoying when she buts in with the judges, but overall she does an ok job on what must be a hard show to present at times. I bet they prefer the recorded version to the live show - must take the pressure off a bit.
Peter Andre and his constant family references, we do get it mate, you love your kids and family!! we do not need to keep hearing it.

Tensmumym · 18/10/2015 15:38

Daniel - charming and funny as ever. Love how positive Craig is about his musicality.

Anita - thought she was undermarked. She did very well with a notoriously difficult dance.

Kellie - for some reason the grandparent card didn't annoy me. I think it's because the way she talked about them seemed quite genuine.

Helen - love Fiderer's comment about her being put in a box at the end of each show. She is so much like a doll and so formulaic in what she says.

Carol - her best dance by far. I do like her but find the constant smiling and positivity a bit unsettling.

Jeremy - can't see him being voted out for ages. Has such a good rapport with Karen and is obviously enjoying every minute.

Jamelia - great Charlston - what a surprise.

Kirsty - every time she opens her mouth she complains. Even when it' s justified as in the choice of music, still very annoying. She can't accept how bad she is.

Ainslie - charming. I love their relationship and hope he avoids the bottom two.

Jay - what a shame but didn't he take the comments well. I watched their bit back again to check out the body language. I can't believe there's anything going on as she's so recently married but the pawing of each other did look odd. Not sure how tactile she was with her other partners.

Katie - great dance, didn't think it deserved a 9 but glad she got that as it avoided Peter being top of the leaderboard Smile

Peter - loved Janette's hair and choreography. He was stompy. As others have said, wasn't Claudia's reaction to his hug and mention of his family FABULOUS?

AnyoneButAndre I love your name. Unfortunately I think the Beeb are giving him prime slots in the running of the show because he is so popular - over 3 million followers on Twitter for goodness sake!! Friends of mine, of all ages, who don't really watch Strictly know who Peter Andre is - and don't know many others in this show - and they mention his name with affection. I have an awful fear that he will win. I read an interview he gave in the Times this weekend where there was no mention of the judge having said that Peter lied in court. He has a truly powerful PR machine behind him. I was astonished to find out that he met his wife through becoming friends with a surgeon who operated on him. This wife was a medical student at the time and is now a doctor I believe. His story just gets more and more bizarre.

ppeatfruit - great panel on ITT this week.

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/10/2015 16:11

On a random but related note, how cute did Tristan look yesterday? he has such a sweet and beautiful face.

RomComPhooey · 18/10/2015 16:26

I am 10 pages behind at the mo, so this may already have been covered upthread.

Just watching last night's show on catch up with DH. DH is convinced Jay and Aliona are shagging. I watched their dance last night after DH and thought their brow to brow touch after their dance seemed intimate. DH, fresh to it today, has just pointed out a whole load of small gestures. Irrespective of whether or not they are shagging, she is all over him like a rash.

purplemunkey · 18/10/2015 16:49

God I love Strictly Smile

I think Kirsty will be bottom two. I thought she would be last week tbh and felt bad for her that she would have to do the whole gushing speech thing in her awful dog get-up, luckily she was spared that indignity. She does seem to think she's better than she is rather than just accepting her limits which I don't think is helping her at all. Very competitive, but unfortunately this just isn't something she's good at. I think Brendan often brings out the worst in his partners. I remember disliking Lisa Snowdon when she was his partner, she went out first in the final despite two perfect scores if I remember correctly so I obviously wasn't alone! I subsequently saw her on something else, BNTM I think, and she seemed rather lovely.

Anyway, loved Katie, Anita & Jay (even with the mistakes), liked Georgia, Helen, Ainsley & Jamelia. Think DOD or Carol will be in dance off with Kirsty.

BTW what does ringer mean? I get that it's someone with a lot of dance experience but where does the term come from?

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 17:01

Agree about Zoe being a brilliant presenter and 100% better than Tess, I wonder what stone she'll find her dress under tonight? Grin

Yes Tristan is cute.

There's something very fake about DOD but when he speaks he seems almost normal, maybe he's got too much money and spent it unwisely at the cosmetic surgeon's, botox/ hair weaving shop Grin

I wonder what 'ringer' means too purplemonkey Grin

AnyoneButAndre · 18/10/2015 17:03

A ringer is a good horse that's strategically substituted for a crap horse with similar markings in order to make a killing at the bookies.

RomComPhooey · 18/10/2015 17:04

I can see Anyone beat me to it, but here's the definition:

ringer
?r???/
noun
1.
informal
an athlete or horse fraudulently substituted for another in a competition or event.
"it was discovered that the winning horse was a ringer"
2.
informal
a person or thing that looks very like another.
"he is a dead ringer for his late papa"

purplemunkey · 18/10/2015 17:05

Ah, thanks Anyone, that makes a lot of sense.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 17:08

Aah thanks I know RomCom's NO.2 definition Grin Shows how cultured Iam Grin but not the racing horse one, you live and learn eh? thanks Anyone too.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 17:10

So what everyone is saying is that SCD is 'fixed' basically.

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/10/2015 17:11

I think Aliona has been on the show long enough to know that such close kissing and hugging no matter how innocent will be picked up the audience. A part of me thinks she knows Jay is a potential winner and rather sensitive and she doesn't want the poor performance to affect him coz then it'll mean SHE won't win. I can't remember who her partner was last year but I remember her pissed off face coz she knew she wouldn't win. Jay is her ticket to a trophy and he needs to be handled carefully. But.. the kissing and hugging esp at the end was OTT. He's a grown lad who's travelled the world with a successful band I don't think her needs someone to mother him that much. And tbf being married has never stopped anyone on strictly. I never got the hint at all from Pasha that he was into Rachel and then next thing she'd left her husband for him. The girl who liked Artem was very open about it and they got together but they were both single at the time. I also thought it was interesting all the drooling Tess, Claudia and Anita were doing over Gleb and then episode two they introduced his wife in case anyone got the wrong idea! Although it's none of my business I hope they ain't shagging coz I do want Jay to win but if he's seeing a married woman I won't like him so much :/

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/10/2015 17:16

And in regards to Kirsty. I remember when Kirsty first came on TV and she was so stunningly beautiful but no personality (a bit like Tess). I can't remember her hosting any big TV programmes and she's luckily found a nice job at Sky Sports but with her looks I'd have expected her to be hosting a big name mainstream show. And her lack of personality and slightly whiny personality is doing her no favours. Brendan to have a better partner next year. Kevin is due a dud.

emotionsecho · 18/10/2015 17:18

I can't remember who Aliona had last time but didn't she suffer an injury and was replaced by another dancer?

Aliona won it with Harry Judd (?) from McFly, I can't remember her being quite so touchy feely with him.

emotionsecho · 18/10/2015 17:22

SheHas someone somewhere in the SCD production team loves Kevin, he seems to be able to do no wrong with the judges either.

chicaguapa · 18/10/2015 17:25

I don't think Jay is a ringer. I think he just studied the jive at the dance college he went to as it's a fairly common dance and not just restricted to Latin & ballroom. So he already knew it.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 17:29

I like Anita a lot. Agree that Kelly's "Gran card" did seem genuine actually I quite like her too. At least she's not botoxed to the hilt, I respect her for that.

Agree that they should fit the music to the dance. If I was the sleb I'd bleedin' complain loudly (they'd love me, not) if they made me quickstep or whatever to a U2 song fgs.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2015 17:32

No Jay's not the ringer. PA is (did I get that right ??)
