Following on from thread one.

OP posts:

I reckon the only way that Giovanni is getting a contract next year is if there are absolutely no other male professionals available in the entire world.

Incidently, why is Joanne Clifton the professional without a celebrity? Did a male celeb drop out at the last minute, or did they want to have 15 celebs but still needed an equal number of male and female professionals?

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/10/2015 21:43

There are 15 slebs- I guess Joanne is there to make up the numbers in the pro dances?

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/10/2015 21:43

Oh, I don't know if anyone dropped out though - that would make more sense I think, but haven't heard any rumours

Mrsjayy · 12/10/2015 21:49

Im missing Robin windsor why isnt he dancing i know he was imjurec last year

CaveMum · 12/10/2015 22:00

The rumour was that CJ from Eggheads pulled out when they said he couldn't dance as part of a same sex couple. Don't know how true that is.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2015 22:31

As I understood it, the Strictly team denied CJ was ever asked.

AnyoneButAndre · 12/10/2015 23:06

The production team were doing absolutely fine with: "it was sweet of you to offer CJ, but the only member of Eggheads we actually wanted was Jeremy kthxbai" and then had to ruin it with "we wouldn't do that because Strictly is a family show" which is a) genuinely homophobic and b) ludicrous given the amount of campery, innuendo and Craig's unambiguous comments on the more attractive male dancers.

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2015 12:34

Yeah also Bruno seems to swing both ways AnyoneBut The whole show is camp as Christmas which is brilliant IMO.

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 12:36

Bruno swings both ways?! That astounds me.

RonaldMcDonald · 13/10/2015 13:51

Peter Andre is in the papers today moaning about Jay being a dancer and saying that as long as the public know fair enough

Peter highlights that he is purely self taught

2rebecca · 13/10/2015 14:12

He has had a job that involves dancing though and I doubt that he has never employed a choreographer, it seems a silly omission if he hasn't. I think that will work against him as it is just bitchy.
I wish the BBC would stop choosing contestants with dance training, although in the media world "celebrities" exist in more than average will have had dance training compared to say a bunch of teachers or accountants.

Mrsjayy · 13/10/2015 14:17

I watched Brunos life stories as far as he made outhe only swingsthe 1 all his LTR have been with men

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 15:03

Well I think they should stop choosing people who have either

A) studied it at school/college

Or

B) been in a West End show.

Most celebrities will have danced at some point, so you can't cut out everyone who has had to dance for something in the course of their career. Particularly if they're struggling to fill the male slots every year as has been rumoured.

Annarose2014 · 13/10/2015 15:07

Does anyone else get a funny feeling Jay is actually fiercely ambitious underneath it all?

If the report of him privately doing dance training since June is anything to go by.....

Also a bit Hmm at all the shots of his Mum blubbing in the audience when she must have been seeing him dancing in shows half his life.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 15:41

It is even vaguely possibly to have been able to do that jive, three weeks in, without having had significant dance training? I've watched it several times since Saturday and I can't imagine how .

The80sweregreat · 13/10/2015 15:52

oh well, I am guessing now that he wont win anyway, I said it before, once this comes out the public just go against you. Being top with the judges will help him for a few weeks till it gets down to the really good ones, then he might come unstuck, or just be really rubbish at the awful Rumba nonsense! ( I bet Aliona cant wait for that dance!)
I loved his jive though, those legs, the change in music and I know nothing at all about dancing or technique, only what I have picked up from watching this ( and come dancing as a kid , with a team from Nottingham shire or wigan.. lol) Craig is such a perfectionist it must be horrible being on the receiving end of his critique( he does go on about thumbs) its not an easy reality show at all.

Minimammoth · 13/10/2015 17:08

Surely most celebs from the world of showbiz is actors, music biz etc will have had some kind of dance instruction. Different for the journalist/ chefs/ sports dudes.
PS didn't Anthony have a lovely smile.
I think there is always a bit of arm length distancing where a young celeb has a fiancé/ girlfriend. Given Strictly's reputation.

AnyoneButAndre · 13/10/2015 18:47

I'm sure Jay will do a great Rumba. Aliona will play to his strengths with loads of slow spins.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/10/2015 19:33

I don't think I would agree with ruling out any celebs who have had stage school training or been in a show that has dancing. Partly because I don't want the entire show to be full of bad dancers with two left feet, I enjoy having at least one or two really good dances per show. But also because it's not a black and white thing, it's a sliding scale of advantage. If you rule out stage school, do you still allow childhood ballet, or musicians who have danced in their videos? Sports people have an advantage with their fitness level, actors have an advantage in being able to adopt a character. You could end up ruling out so many people that all you have left are daytime TV presenters, newsreaders, weather presenters, husbands/wives/partners of famous people and the occasional journalist.

digerd · 13/10/2015 20:03

In week 1, Jay danced like a girl I thought. But in the Jive he was definitely masculine.
Wish I could find a video of the initial group dance a month prior to the opening. I have a feeling Jay did not look as if he could dance.

Interesting on ITT tonight that Gleb said he had danced many a contemporary style of ballroom and Jay said he had learned contemporary from the age of 13.
Must say Gleb looked very handsome tonight.Smile

onlywhenyouleave · 13/10/2015 20:33

digerd you are correct, I remember watching that group dance and being very surprised at how stiff and uncomfortable he looked. To go from that to that jive in a matter of weeks Hmm Hmm

Anyway regardless of whether it is fair etc, I am so looking forward to his dances going forward - definitely a good argument to having 'trained' dancers included.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 22:12

I just think they should be upfront. I don't think they should ban celebs who have some dance training but info think they should mention it.

It's not always those with experience who win anyway.

digerd · 14/10/2015 07:42

onlywhenyouleave

Yes, I found that video on Youtube and found Jay looking really awkward and stiff. I don't beieve he deliberately played it either. Truly mind boggling how he has changed.

Hope his Rumba goes well., and his American Smooth I expect great things from him. Smile

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2015 09:59

Agree with BlackAmericano I Also think they should be upfront about their 'training.' I noticed that Zoe is asking them about it sometimes.

Of course the problem is that it's a competition, perhaps there should be 2 heats or something or just have exhibition dancing from the good ones Grin It just shows how ridiculous all these competitions are doesn't it?

onlywhenyouleave · 14/10/2015 19:36

digerd I am not convinced he is that good an actor to dance so badly in the group dance. I had him pegged from that for a 'journey' - just wasn't expecting it to be so fast or so epic Grin
