Poor Tom.

MyBoysAreFab · 07/10/2015 22:10

What a monumental disappointment. Beeb missed a trick not getting MNers to rewrite the ending based on the thread about it!

FloraDiesEarly · 07/10/2015 22:11

Yeah, given that an episode or two back she could've had to leave the town where she lived and potentially been bankrupt, she did well.

The Kate thing, though annoying, is true to life. Lots of women think a man who has cheated previously will be different with them. Though you would think seeing Gemma with her face covered in blood would change her mind Confused

CremeEggThief · 07/10/2015 22:11

He should have been thrown in prison for assault and then homeless on the street when he finally comes out. This way, he still gets a second chance with a new family and is able to shrug Tom's rejection off.Angry

Palomb · 07/10/2015 22:11

I really enjoyed it and don't think it was a crappy ending at all! I would have preferred if Kate had kicked Simon to the curb when she saw what he had done to Gemma and Simon had been left penniless and with no-one, but overall I loved the whole series.

derxa · 07/10/2015 22:11

Anti climactic indeed but I still cried. Blush

backinl00p · 07/10/2015 22:11

Agree with sadwidow28

BathtimeFunkster · 07/10/2015 22:11

It wasn't just her husband shagging a 23 year old, he also gambled away all her money on dodgy investments and forged her name when signing away the house.

But she was willing to overlook all of that when she thought Kare had dumped him and had an abortion. Hmm

Appalling script.

amillionusernameslater · 07/10/2015 22:12

How come the complaint against her was dropped? I don't understand that bit. Maybe I missed something as had to nip upstairs.

I think the saving heart attack man scene, in front of Tom was about showing him maybe he should respect women more than his father did? Wasn't that the message there?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 07/10/2015 22:13

I liked it and cried mum left alone to bring up son all too familiar

But didn't like the message you are always working Angry

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2015 22:13

Loved the first 20mins

Refused to come on mn during or would miss bits

Not a bad ending. She made him feel pain

Son hates him

He lost the car house

Is poor

Shane kate stayed with him though

And yes I would do the accountant neighbour :)

JeffsanArsehole · 07/10/2015 22:14

I really don't understand how anyone would think Simon had 'won' Confused

Crappy car, pregnant 23 year old, not able to go back to his posh wife or see his son.

His life is utterly, deservedly shitey bollocks.

sadwidow28 · 07/10/2015 22:14

What was the point of the drunken doctor?

Did Gemma kill her MIL as Ros suggested?

Why did the secretary go on the holiday to France?

Grrrrrr!!!!!! Angry

Roseformeplease · 07/10/2015 22:15

I think she got everything: son, house, her money back, job, respect, staying in "his"town.

He got a restraining order, a pregnant girlfriend and a lifetime of being seen as a wife beater, a police record, an old car, return to London (which he hated) and lost all his roots, wife, son, house, business.

CremeEggThief · 07/10/2015 22:15

He didn't win, Jeff, but things could have and should have been a lot worse for him.

Roseformeplease · 07/10/2015 22:16

Also, the photo in the pool wasn't in France - was in their pool that was the same in the UK.

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2015 22:16

Rose, she won. Not the ending i expected, but still good. Suranne jones was fab.

BathtimeFunkster · 07/10/2015 22:16

Yes a well-respected man wrote it.

I think the saving heart attack man scene, in front of Tom was about showing him maybe he should respect women more than his father did? Wasn't that the message there?

Grin

That would appear to have been the subtle as a sledgehammer final message, yes.

"Respect your mother, Tom. She's Dr Foster, not just rubbish old Mrs Foster."

Oblique27 · 07/10/2015 22:16

I was gripped, brilliant acting from Suranne Jones. Let's hope there is another series.

Yarpyarp · 07/10/2015 22:16

Was expecting a lot more emotion from Simon. He just didn't seem that bothered (until he broke Gemma's nose).

SuckingEggs · 07/10/2015 22:17

And don't forget he hates London. Though why anyone struggling with cash would move there is beyond me.

SuckingEggs · 07/10/2015 22:18

She didn't kill her parents!

PontyGirl · 07/10/2015 22:18

"You're always working"
"You didn't pay enough attention"

Apparently all valid reasons for a man to fuck someone else. Thank you, BBC, for that truly enlightening little nugget.

Bakeoffcake · 07/10/2015 22:18

My heart was going like the clappers all the way though that, I feel emotionally wrecked!Grin

I'm glad Kate didn't get rid of him. He's now got to leave his home, family, business and go and live in London with a very small Ford Fiesta and no money. (Not that there's anything wrong with Fiesta's) he's also got to live with spoilt Kate.

What's the betting he'll be off with the next available girl anytime soon.

MajesticWhine · 07/10/2015 22:18

Also, the photo in the pool wasn't in France

Ah penny drops. thanks Rose
