Anyone watching this, I like Suranne Jones so I'm hoping it's good, but she is one paranoid woman, maybe she has good reasons, we'll wait and see Smile

I think the lady neighbour over the road was unhappy when she came back and found Gemma there because she knows a) her husband has fancied her for 5 years and b) Simon has no money and Gemma wasn't supposed to know.

I think Gemma slept with the accountant because she's found out her husband has been having an affair and wanted to feel better about herself, has known he's fancied her for 5 years and fancied him back a bit and needed the details about the finances. Not sure why she couldn't be told their joint ones though if her name's on the accounts.

PeppermintInfusion · 24/09/2015 07:58

I'm thinking some sort of Gone Girl twisted revenge scenario now.
Ros's character is just so strange and a bit off kilter at times (a bit like her White Stuff uniform). She knows the husband from her youth and seems eager to please and tag along with that gang which is maybe part of why she is assisting him. She says what Gemma wants to hear and then what he wants to hear.
Gemma is the outsider in this town, she doesn't know all their pasts so I reckon there is at least some part of the storyline relates to their youth there- the alcoholic GP seems to allude to that, though again why was he so venomous to her in the surgery then it appears they had a long time friendship. It also seemed he was saying he looked out for her when she first arrived, and with him off with her mate Mary she has nobody on side really.
Also there has to be something in her past to explain her ruthlessness.
For someone who was cheated on by her husband, the sick mother seems very tolerant of her son's infidelity. Also why would he be discussing this with his mother? Seemed strange to me.
Are they going to get rid of her by pretend she is unravelling? The comments on the GP site part of that.

PeppermintInfusion · 24/09/2015 08:03

Also is there something strange with their son? He always seems to behave strangely, or perhaps that's a result of his parents' relationship and is his hair dyed?

Is the lawyer trustworthy too?
Or else this is about her getting her ducks in a row and the perfect revenge/divorce rather than being the hysterical woman scorned and emotionally confronting him.

MyBlackCat · 24/09/2015 08:19

Could the rate my gp reviews be from the odd ball guy at the surgery in the first two episodes who Gemma was very dismissive of?

LyndaNotLinda · 24/09/2015 08:20

I wondered if the reviews were written by her needy, demanding patient who she's barked at a few times because he hadn't made an appointment?

I bet he's quite vengeful.

I though the male colleague telling Ros to stop flirting with him was significant but no idea why. It's tosh but enjoyable tosh. SJ is very watchable.

NoelHeadbands · 24/09/2015 08:26

The motor bike accident- what was all that about?

CheekyMaleekey · 24/09/2015 08:37

I'm thinking that these things are significant...

Did both of Gemma's parents die at the same time? In some sort of 'accident'? Pattern with MIL drug death?
Mary - the rehab and grief counsellor
Patient at the surgery who was desperate to be seen, but she kept fobbing off - maybe he needed to talk to her about something important

Is Gemma a serial killer?!

CheekyMaleekey · 24/09/2015 08:47

Also, the items that drift by in the opening credits are male and female - did her parents drown?

Or, did Simon kill them (and his mother) for the inheritance?

TheCraicDealer · 24/09/2015 09:21

I got the impression that she was quite young when her parents died though, and she has suggested that she’s sad about that (“that was the money my parents left when they died [sadface]”).

I’m loving your theory MudCity. If they don’t go that way I’ll be disappointed! Also the suggestion that it’s hypochondriac patient trolling her is a good one.

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 11:12

Ah yes I forgot about the hypochondriac patient, that would explain the trolling on the GP site thingy, I did wonder if it was Kate and that Simon knew it was her but not sure what she would have gained from it. Although the way this is going it could equally be her 'friend' Ros, I don't trust her at all.

I'm sure Simon's assistant is going to figure in the denouement somewhere.

squoosh · 24/09/2015 11:19

So is Ros mad jealous and writing bad reviews about Dr Foster on MyGP.com? I think she's jealous of Gemma's success with the gents whereas Ros is single and lonely and rebuffed in the most cringey way when she tries to flirt with a colleague.

CheekyMaleekey · 24/09/2015 11:25

Or the bad reviews could be the alcoholic doc, with a grudge.

M4blues · 24/09/2015 11:44

It could be accountant's wife writing the bad reviews.

I think Simon will drown. There must be significance in the drowning story told at dinner.

M4blues · 24/09/2015 11:45

But also, why is the other GP, the one Ros has a thing for, why does he always seem so anxious? He seems very weird in every scene.

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 11:50

I wonder if Gemma's parents drowned, the water and drowning do seem to have a significance but could all be one massive red herringGrin.

I'm sure Ros is playing both ends against the middle and is not at all trustworthy, the other doctor does seem a bit on edge the whole time.

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 11:51

Oops posted too soon, I thought the doctor Ros was flirting with as going to announce he was gay and not just mutter about not appreciating the flirting.

squoosh · 24/09/2015 11:57

The on edge GP reminds me of Beaker from The Muppets with his constantly alarmed expression.

Doctor Foster
TheSpottedZebra · 24/09/2015 12:06

Loving BeakerGP.

Could the alcoholic dr be her real dad? No idea why, but he has to feature somehow.

SuffolkNWhat · 24/09/2015 12:07

I think Gemma is playing the long game. Getting everything in place so once she has her money back from the sale of the flats, life insurance policy in place on Simin the holiday will happen and he'll drown.

M4blues · 24/09/2015 12:08

He looks like he's on drugs with the crazy startled look and seeming edgy and his greasy hair too.

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 12:09

I'm now wondering if the 'woman scorned' as per the poem is in fact Ros and not Gemma. Think I'm giving this far too much thoughtGrin.

squoosh · 24/09/2015 12:20

Oh come on, Accountant Neil is hot.

I couldn't decide. I kept thinking 'Would I? Wouldn't I?'.

I warmed to him later on when he was giving her the lowdown on the financial mess though.

M4blues · 24/09/2015 12:24

I think Ros has been in love with Simon since school. I think alcoholic Dr knows this.

Lottapianos · 24/09/2015 12:28

'Oh come on, Accountant Neil is hot'

I agree, even if he is a sleazy cheater. I do enjoy a posh boy.

Agree with others - Simon should be really hot, and dear god I love a man with a beard, but there's something a bit wet about him. Definitely doesn't have the phwoar factor that he should do.

I enjoyed this episode the most so far. It is totally bonkers of course but at least we know a hell of a lot more than we did last week.

Suranne Jones is fab. I always like her because she's a brilliant actress, but also because I sat next to her in a restaurant a few years ago. I'm only watching this for her really. Hope she's grateful Wink

Tiggeryoubastard · 24/09/2015 12:30

Urgh. Neal is slimy. I wouldn't even touch him with somebody else's.
