Anyone watching this, I like Suranne Jones so I'm hoping it's good, but she is one paranoid woman, maybe she has good reasons, we'll wait and see Smile

Why did my smiley come out as a ??

squoosh · 17/09/2015 08:34

I've just had a thought that's made me think it can't be all in her head.

If it was that wouldn't make sense of the scene where her sleeping pills patient tracks the husband to his secret assignation. Doctor Foster wasn't in that scene so it can't be just an imagining.

Twatters · 17/09/2015 09:03

Thing is, wouldn't she, instead of going out to a bar, have gone to the boot of his car and gone through the whole of his other phone?
As She'd only had a brief glimpse at that party.

Iusedtobecarmen · 17/09/2015 09:13

Glass for son was emoty then she took him squash. Glass when ros there had water a slice of lemon

lurkingabit · 17/09/2015 09:14

I don't trust her doctor friend. Not for one minute.
Betcha there's gonna be some complicated other story to all of this. Betcha. It isn't as simple as an affair.

The plot is faintly ridiculous but it has sucked me in nonetheless.

BathtimeFunkster · 17/09/2015 09:34

The continuity is shocking, so I'm not sure whether we can read anything into that.

It must be an absolutely massive town she's moved to if she can leave a party in daylight and not get home until it's pitch dark. Grin

I am also gripped, despite thinking it is a load of old guff.

You lot make it seem way more interesting than it is Grin

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 09:40

What I thought was weird is she made the glass of squash, then went upstairs and packed all his bags, still wearing her mac. Then, after the bags were packed and downstairs, she took son his drink and he asked about the noise.

I don't trust Roz for a second. Agree she must be shagging him - how would she know about the 2nd phone number. Though didn't DrF refer to it as his OLD phone to Roz? SO maybe she has always had that number - double life?

It's been revealed that all the people she thinks are her friends are actually HIS friends from his childhood.

If this turns out to all be a dream/mental illness I will be very disappointed - agree with whoever said that would be very lazy script writing.

When the 22yo was with DrF she did seem all too calm talking about her married man - so I'm starting to think she isn't having an affair with H but he is her Dad. But this conflicts with her changing her mind about the abortion after H contacts her.

H is a frighteningly good liar. But surely he would be a little more concerned when his W asked about him having an affair. Not just "I'm not" and it gets left at that. Why not more concerned about his W?

Lots of red herrings.

jonicomelately · 17/09/2015 09:42

I really wouldn't be surprised if it's all in her head. Typical BBC commissioning a man to write a drama with a female lead character.

BathtimeFunkster · 17/09/2015 09:47

But this conflicts with her changing her mind about the abortion after H contacts her.

Does it?

Daddy hears his little girl is about to have an abortion alone, runs to be with her and offer support?

If it is Roz he is shagging, maybe the daughter knows and that's why she was OK with her insane breach of patient confidentiality.

KitZacJak · 17/09/2015 09:58

I think this is going to be one of those shows that doesn't hang together properly. Already, Ros using his affair phone doesn't make sense unless she has had an affair with him before. It seems a bit like Ros is stirring and maybe is in love with the husband but I'm not sure.

The whole Kate coming into the surgery and turning out to be pregnant was ridiculous - made me wonder if Dr Foster made up the result somehow to test what she/ her husband would do as I doubt the other Dr would test again.

The mother telling her seems strange too and won't he find out she knows he definitely is when talking to his mum next time. Or is the mother slightly unhinged anyway??

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 17/09/2015 10:02

It will be like one of those Sidney Sheldon books I read as a teenager where it turns out to schizophrenia or multiple personality disorder and it will all make sense. We'll have flashbacks where she'll be looking at the phone from the boot of the car again and it'll show that she just imagined her DH in them and it was actually someone else, and the young girl needing sleeping pills who saw him kissing someone was actually telling her the opposite or something and she put two and two together and made six.

Whatever it is, it will be a very clever plot ending where we realise that it was all in her head and her DH is definitely not having an affair. But by the time she realises it will be too late and she'll have murdered him or Kate or something. She is quite mad. Although she gives the appearance of being controlled and calm, the impulsive way she goes about her job, violating several policies and laws in one day and gripping knives and scissors and all the other reckless things shows she really in not in a stable frame of mind.

It also made me thing how I would react if I ever caught my DH having an affair. I think my impulsive reaction would be to having a huge argument, scream and shout, cry and feel sorry for myself and then leave him and do what I could to salvage my life whilst all the time feeling bitter about how I've wasted my life with a cheater. But after this I'm hoping that I would be a bit more dignified and quietly plan to evict him from my life in such a way that I'd still have my self respect and assets before I put a revenge plan into action.

Just to say, I'm not expecting it to happen, Grin but these things happen to the most unsuspecting of people and I have a tendency to put myself in the protagonist's place in films and books and always wonder what I'd do. Yes, in my imagination I have played out the part of what I would do if I was Katniss Everdeen, Amy of Gone Girl and most recently, Joy of Inside Out Blush.

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 10:05

well the whole secret daughter thing is very strange. Why would he keep her secret from his W for all these years?

It all adds up into a "you don't know anything about the person you love" scenario they seem to be building.

I thought the bit where he comes home drunk, trips over suitcases and doesn't even mention them was well done. "Bring me a drink of water" - not even a please!

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 10:06

Whatever is going on the H is worryingly oblivious to the pain his W is in.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/09/2015 10:07

Don't think he flushed the loo either after his drunken pee

MajesticWhine · 17/09/2015 10:11

I think the strongest clue that it is imagination / delusion was the thing with the sacked ex-doctor. That was all highly improbable, but could be her fantasy as a way to try and make things ok.

squoosh · 17/09/2015 10:14

But what about her patient/mole spying on the husband having his tryst in the first episode? If it turns out all to be in her imagination that's a pretty big plot hole.

The paranoia thing only works if the doctor is in all scenes.

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 10:19

Yes exactly squoosh re paranoia.

tessiegirl · 17/09/2015 10:25

Place marking! Grin

jonicomelately · 17/09/2015 10:26

Totally unrealistic too. The lead character is a strong, intelligent women. Why would she not broach the subject of an affair with her husband at the earliest opportunity? Oh no. Let's see her spiral into a psychotic, paranoid mess Hmm

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 10:40

But she did broach the subject the following day and he denied it/shut her down. The time covered in the story is just a few days so far.

Why didn't she just take his 2nd phone though and have a proper look? That was odd.

NoelHeadbands I think it was mentioned at some point it was May.

jeronimoh · 17/09/2015 10:45

I think there is more than one woman and what the older doctor told her will be significant.

Her 'friend' may be in on that and covering for him. He may have been with the younger woman for 3 months and someone else for 2 years.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/09/2015 11:07

I think the whole twist will be how she deals with the affair. All the stories with the sleeping pills patient, the drunk doctor and the brain tumour patient have her "solving" these problems quickly whether they want help or not, however so far they have all been grudgingly greatfull, and consequently "recruited" to return the favour. I think the same will happen with the sports car man next week. She is a "fixer". The husband knows this and how she will respond to his affair by fixing the situation to her advantage, which is why he won't tell her. However because he hasn't admitted it when she gave him the chance she is going to throw a shirtstorm of revenge at him, gradually and cleverly, which is great!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 17/09/2015 11:09

shitstorm although probably a shirtstorm too, if she goes down the route of cutting up his shirts.

KellyHb · 17/09/2015 11:12

Loved these 2 episodes and hope it is more than just a average affair story. But there are a couple of things I don't get if somebody can shed a light on them?:

...When Kate was being questioned by Gemma in the surgery and Kate calmly said he was married but unhappily, she obvs knows Gemma is the wife but with Kate being so calm made me think it's a different married man she's pregnant to??

.. When Simon in the kitchen said he wasnt having an affair and Gemma cried and she said something like, now I know or something, were the tears because she knew he'd just lied to her or was she was trying to believe he didn't have an affair??

I do like Gemna and Simon as a couple and hope all isn't what it seems at the moment. I hope she doesn't kill the husband believing mistakenly he's had an affair.

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 11:15

It was awful when Simon says "I meant everything I said last night" and she flinches as he very obviously listed all the ways she improves and supports his life but not that he loved her.

He does seem oblivious - I'm still thinking he is sociopath/masterful liar.
