US OPEN tennis thread- it's the last Grand Slam of the year- who will win?

Obviously, my heart wants Nadal to end a shit year, with a massive (if pretty unlikey) win. But hey, the defending champ is Marin Cilic- so who knows what will happen.Grin But he will face Coric in the first round, which might be tricky.

And Murray has Kyrgios. For a one-time only deal, I am firmly team Murray. The arrogant little Aussie needs to end 2015 with his tail between his legs- and come back next year more contrite. Of course, it has the potential to be as messy and sweary as their other encounters- which will trigger Nick's suspended ban. Here's hoping Grin

I agree- and (and this is not just the GB team) I don't think it is right that any 'team' event relies on one player, playing in 3 matches. They should be restricted to 2- otherwise, how is is a team event?

Am delighted to read that BBC have got the rights to Wimbledon until 2020!

Apart from some of the commentators they do it so well & it's great for those of us who don't have other options.

GrouchyKiwi · 19/09/2015 08:47

That is good news.

Eek Jamie put your nips away Envy

trixymalixy · 19/09/2015 19:58

What a match!!

I've somehow managed to blag myself a ticket for the whole weekend in the barmy army block. I'm totally exhausted though from all the singing!

PrimalLass · 19/09/2015 20:00

I was there yesterday and had a great time. The Dan Evans match was such a rollercoaster.

RipMacWinkle · 19/09/2015 20:01

Nice one Trixy! Looked bonkers over there. We were near the Aussies today.

Lucky you going back tomorrow too

AmIthatbloodywet · 19/09/2015 22:57

Me too Trixy. I have no voice left for tomorrow ??

trixymalixy · 20/09/2015 08:45

I enjoyed Dan Evan's match far more than Andy's singles match, it was far more exciting.

I think I should have followed Andy's lead and had an ice bath whe I came in last night, my leg muscles are aching from all the standing up and sitting down!! I have no voice left either, I'm going to be a wreck on Monday.

PrimalLass · 20/09/2015 09:04

trixymalixy my back was so sore after Friday. We were towards one of the corners so sitting at an angle for 5 hours was not good. We definitely preferred the second match too.

CremeEggThief · 20/09/2015 14:03

Go on Murray! Talk about making hard work of that first set now. The atmosphere looks amazing! I wish I was there too.

CremeEggThief · 20/09/2015 15:22

Yay! Congratulations to Team GB!Wine

GrouchyKiwi · 20/09/2015 15:38

Hooray GB! I love that Andy was (mostly) in control after what the Aussie coach said yesterday!

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2015 16:08

Great win for GB Tennis. Didn't manage to see any play, was watching rugby, but really pleased at the result. No idea why the Evans v Kokkinakis match is being played, though.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/09/2015 16:29

I was confused by that too. Maybe they do it because it's semis?

PrimalLass · 20/09/2015 16:39

They should play it as people have paid to be there.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/09/2015 19:26

Would it not work in the same way as a test match in cricket?

Agree, though, that it's much better to play it.

CremeEggThief · 20/09/2015 19:27

What was the result of the final rubber?

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2015 20:01

It was best of three sets, and the result was 7-5 6-4 to Australia, so a 3-2 win for GB overall.

Thanks for that, Drama Smile.

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2015 20:07

Don't know how that managed to post twice Confused

GrouchyKiwi · 20/09/2015 20:23

Thanks, Drama. Bit of a shame there's not a piece on the BBC about it. It's just mentioned in the article about Andy.

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2015 20:31

I had to go to the Davis Cup website to find the result. Good on both teams for deciding to play it to give the crowd their money's worth.
