Corrie Thread - you know it is bad when the best storyline is about a dog

Time to start a new thread. Hopefully by the time this one has finished there will have been a terrible disaster and half the current cast will have disappeared.

At least Jazz-hands-Andrea is on her way out. I'd be grateful if she would take a coach-load with her.

Audrey is not of course a Platt, but she is my favourite of that family.

Mine too, Rachel. Sue Nicholls is so underused but she's getting a big story soon, one which some of us saw coming a while ago. I hope Kate Oates brings back Rula Lenska as I enjoyed seeing the scenes with Audrey and Claudia a few years ago.

MaisieDotes · 22/09/2015 22:24

Oh god, it's a romance with Ken, isn't it?

I can't cope with courting Ken

Mindysgotswag · 22/09/2015 22:53

I don't mind a bit of romance between Ken and Audrey...

If it only gets us away from the poorly-written Leanne/Simon storyline.

ellenanora5 · 22/09/2015 23:41

Well when the new producer takes over at least we know it can't get any worse, can it Hmm

Rachel0Greep · 23/09/2015 08:37

I'll be having a drink during the live episode if Callum really does die, though we know Jazz Hands goes for sure tomorrow night so will have one anyway.

I had the same thought southeast -Grin, I think I will do a little celebratory dance if Callum dies, and they drag that painful story to a close.
I agree about Audrey, being underused, and indeed a lot of the older / longer serving characters, who don't seem to get a look in, anymore, or else were made into caricatures, of the decent characters they were once allowed to play.
Hopefully that will change, in the New Year.

Mindysgotswag · 23/09/2015 08:43

Tonight's the night ladies! Have heard a few bits about what's going to happen tonight...but I shan't spill!

Here's to a half decent episode. He needs to redeem himself!

hildasmuriel · 23/09/2015 08:48

Lots of hype about tonight, I hope it lives up to it.

I am speculating that Callum will end up in Gail's manhole, if only just for the snigger factor of writing that sentence.

Mindysgotswag · 23/09/2015 08:52

Hilda Grin

Brightened up my morning!

Rhine · 23/09/2015 09:08

It's far more believable that Ken is moving on and having a new romance, than Roy who I can't imagine would ever want to replace Hayley. Ken of course has never been able to keep it in his pants, but Roy only ever had a relationship with Hayley.

PennyHasNoSurname · 23/09/2015 09:54

I have a feeling David Platt is either going to die or be imprisoned. I really dont want JPS to leave - he is very good.

Ive enjoyed the last few episodes and am excited for the Live, but am at work this evening so will have to wait til the morning.

PennyHasNoSurname · 23/09/2015 10:00

It does seem incredibly convenient that everyone who would go after Callum either lives in that house or is involved in the manhole/extension. Its a wasted opportunity tbh if he doesnt end up in it.

Id like for Bethany to do it, or Sarah, then it stay secret. Then Gary cant cope, he find out, and decides he cant live on the Street any more and takes his "is she/isnt she preggo" girlfriend with him.

eddiemairswife · 23/09/2015 10:00

They are having Andrea and Lloyd's leaving party tonight. Is it supposed to be before or after Roy's Birthday meal? Because the last we saw of Roy was a vanishing act on Blackpool beach, and I'm wondering if that will be forgotten.

Rachel0Greep · 23/09/2015 10:39

I know it's been mentioned previously about Ken and Audrey maybe getting together. Just having them as friends, keeping one another company, would be good, I think. I don't want it to be like the silly stuff before, where Ken gave Audrey, War and Peace, or something to read. I felt the implication there was, Ken the great intellectual, trying to educate Audrey. Hmm

I definitely don't think they should have Ken rushing into a relationship so soon after Deirdre's death.

Jo4040 · 23/09/2015 10:55

Placemarking in anticipation for everyone's opinion this evening !

AuntieStella · 23/09/2015 11:02

Ken always was the great 'intellectual' though, being the first to go to university etc. He was dreadfully pretentious in his younger days. And a I like it when characters stay true to their roots.

Which is why I really disliked how feeble they made Rita, and how underused Emily is (I just want them to bring back Spider and Toyah, but a I don't want this team to do it).

Rachel0Greep · 23/09/2015 11:09

Yes, I know he was always the great 'intellectual', and to be fair, when called upon, to make speeches and whatnot, he usually does well. It just annoyed me, a little, and of course it was some huge version of the book Grin. Poor Audrey!
I'm hoping too that the characters that we haven't seen much of, especially the older, more established ones, will blossom once more, when Stuart Blackburn moves on. Every soap needs new characters, but the focus, over the last two or three years has been to mill them in, and then try and get them to carry storylines, which in most cases, they are not capable of doing.
I would prefer to watch Norris complaining and grumbling about litter on the street, or something, for a full episode, Grin, than some of the nonsense that has gone on.

eddiemairswife · 23/09/2015 11:39

The problem is that both Emily and Rita are in their 80s and may not want to be involved in an intense storyline. So is Ken for that matter. I would like to see more of Norris, and I've always felt that Eileen has been wasted.

Rachel0Greep · 23/09/2015 16:21

Yes, I think it is understandable that the people in their 80s would probably be given lower key roles now, but sometimes they seem almost forgotten about. I always enjoy what they bring to a scene, even if it's something relatively mundane they are doing, like sitting in the pub, chatting, or in The Kabin. There is just something credible about them, and other old faithfuls like Norris, that makes me glad to see them.
(And they wouldn't be afraid of Callum either Wink. I could just picture Norris running him off the street with his sweeping brush).

Jo4040 · 23/09/2015 16:29

I think they would be afraid if Callum...because nobody seems to be a consistent character ATM Confused

AnguaResurgam · 23/09/2015 16:32

Emily's house still seems to be the main parking place for all the Street children. It wouldn't take much to have her walking along with one of them and calling in at the shop or the Kabin and having a little chat about latest events. The sort of low key things that stitch the fabric together, rather than the disjointed bitty muddle there is now.

And it wasn't so long ago that she gave Tracey that lovely dressing down. Obviously there shouldn't be a repeat of that (though I wouldn't put anything past this lot) but it's a shame that wider reactions to events are just overlooked. Emily was no prude, but she was the conscience of the Street, and could do that sitting in The Rovers, if they'd just give her some good dialogue. She doesn't need big (exhausting) storylines to make the contribution this character is so capable of.

Even though Amy gets mixed reactions on this thread, seeing how Emily deals with her manipulative side would be good. If only it could be done as a general rounding of the characters, not An Important Storyline.

Pyjamaramadrama · 23/09/2015 17:46

I would have loved to see Norris sweeping away Callum. Missed opportunity there.

Even though Corrie has been awful lately I'm so looking forward to tonight.

Is anyone going to watch it live? I think I'll have to record it as no way will I have both kids in bed.

AnguaResurgam · 23/09/2015 17:54

I'll be watching (vaguely hoping for at least one good blooper) but expect the commentary here to be better than the actual programme.

(the Thread has been better than the Street for weeks now)

eddiemairswife · 23/09/2015 18:16

I knew it....I'm Emily BishopSadSad.

Rachel0Greep · 23/09/2015 18:21

I would have loved to see Norris sweeping away Callum. Missed opportunity there.

Definitely Grin.
I'm tired listening to David and Kylie talking about him, fearfully. His 'empire' must be fairly harmless, if his main partner in crime is the Vicky Pollard lookalike who appears every so often shrieking about 'Denton' Grin
