About a month to go before it starts, and they've released the name of the first celeb.

Would Strictly work better if they had non-celebrities (than C-list celebrities) like Bake Off, X Factor etc?

Not really I don't think - they'd all be too busy competing on the normal circuit to want to take time out to do Strictly. Plus they'll have their own teachers and own routines already.

I suppose you could have people who've never danced before, but how you'd choose them...

It was all looking good until Jamelia was mentioned.

Excited already but as usual have no idea who some of the slebs are. I think Jeremy Vine will be surprisingly good, Carol Kirkwood (who I love) will be awful. The Orange One will be annoying hut good. Jane liability will just be annoying. I like Keller Bright in WE but can't see her as a dancer. Ainsley will the rubbish but popular with the audience "character"

I think they could do with slightly more at the younger end, and fewer at the creakier end. I'm creaky myself but I don't particularly want to watch loads of creaky people dancing...

BBC's website still shows Joanne Clifton as dancing? Also Karen has become Karen Clifton, so there are three of them now.

As an athletics fan, I like Iwan Thomas. I'm also pleased that the sublime Call the Midwife is represented by Helen George :-) Kirsty G is a good sports presenter IMO. I admire Katie Derham too.

I find Daniel O's work rather naff, but I suspect that he'll be lovely.

Jamelia will probably be an excellent dancer, but deeply annoying. She may well be bottom two because of her annoying-ness, but the judges will save her.

I think that Georgia May Foote will be a competent performer, but maybe lacking in charisma.

I feel a little more optimistic now the last few have at least been under 40! I'm well over 40 myself but prefer it when we have a few good ones in it like last year and good ones do tend to be the young ones though you never can tell - look at Jake Wood last year - no one would have predicted that!

Still 4 weeks til it starts properly...sigh!

Am pretty disappointed with the line-up this year. The majority of the men seem so old! They all seem very "safe" choices as well, bar Jamelia. I mean, Daniel O'Donnell? To compete with the X Factor? Really?! Although I'm looking forward to Peter Andre. I'm sure we'll all be subjected to endless insufferable sobbing about how he's "doing it all for his kids" but I do find him weirdly entertaining.

This is the first time I've been sad that James Jordan isn't in it anymore. Would have loved to have seen him paired with Jamelia - I'm sure they would have clashed spectacularly got on wonderfully. Ah well. Maybe with lesser known names they'll focus more on the dancing and less on silly VTs and props like in the good old days (one can hope).

I'm disappointed with the line up too. Where is the sportswoman? And a few a/b listers?
Like someone said up thread - the dancers are more famous than some of the celebs!
It might be a good thing with everything being more open and less judged on personality. Time will tell...

I think the BBC have reduced their budget for this year, firstly with the celebs. Most of them are from BBC shows. We'll see if they seem to cut corners any other ways this year...

I'm disappointed with the line up every year - but always end up enjoying it. I think they should have some 80's pop stars on there - John Taylor, a Kemp brother, one of Bananarama - so many possibilities. I'm guessing they don't need the money or exposure though. Having said that DWTS has got Chaka Khan this year.

gingercat02, there was some charity danceathon thing a while back on Breakfast TV. Carol K was presenting the weather but gamely shook her pants for five minutes while delivering it. I thought she was quite good! Although throwing your ass round a disco dancefloor is not quite the same as learning a load of steps and not tripping over your partner. Sadly.

Toothpick I know what you mean but they seem to have had bigger names the last few years and every series they get Len to say "this is the best line-up EVER". I can't imagine him even attempting to feign enthusiasm like that for some bloke from The Wanted and Daniel O'Donnell.

Wonder what happened to Jamie and Louise Redknapp? Thought they were very heavily predicted to be participating.
Another one underwhelmed by the line up here. Wonder if they will keep the married men away from Kristina this year?
