Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

I thought it was really good (apart from labrasnake) I love Missy and all her overacting. Off you trot Jenna.

Fail.

Hassled · 19/09/2015 20:51

I thought that was fantastic. Loved the Tom Baker bit, loved the Bill&Ted bit with the guitar. And I love the fact #theplaneshavestopped is a thing.

Idontseeanytimelords · 19/09/2015 20:53

I liked that Smile
It's a dark one for a starter episode though! Michelle Gomez got to actually act which was a nice change from last season when all she did was prance around and gurn a lot, Clara was only slightly annoyingly know it all and PC was great as usual. Plus they did something to make the clangy bells in the theme tune quieter and gave it more oomph.
I'm really looking forward to next week!

BestIsWestOfGallifrey · 19/09/2015 21:11

Are Clara and Missy really gone though or will there be a timey wimey Bobby-Ewing-in-the-shower sort of get out clause? Maybe he doesn't save the boy Davros.

Idontseeanytimelords · 19/09/2015 21:14

I reckon they'll string out Jenna Coleman leaving all season - my bet is that Missy transported out and then got Clara. Or we get the Bobby in the shower thing.

brittanyfairies · 19/09/2015 21:28

Was it me or did PC sound less Scottish? One of the problems I had with last season was I struggling to understand him.

I thought the hand mines were quite scary - good start!

Ooh ooh ooh Osgood is in ep 7. I loved her.

IStoleATimeLordAndIRanAway · 19/09/2015 22:25

Ooh I thought that was quite good. Moffat being all Moffaty as usual (claim to fame: I met him once and he was very unimpressed by my homemade Doctor Who merchandise)??Huge improvement on last series where they didn't seem to know how to write for PC at all. ??Missy and Clara are fine, of course. ??Can't wait for Clara to finally bloody leave though.

Idontseeanytimelords · 19/09/2015 22:34

BBC website has a video about the Doctor's grand entrance on.
I can't shake the feeling that next weeks episode is going to get Moffated and end up with some reason everyone lives plucked out of thin air in the last 5 minutes..

Stupendous.

So absorbing that PC just blended in nicely and there were moments when I could enjoy the story without longing for Matt Smith.

But there's still so little context for this Doctor. I've just laughed at someone on another thread for seeking the key to someone's motivation - but I cannot fathom PC's Doctors's reason for existing. He seems quite lost, intellectually speaking. Just bouncing about in the TARDIS but possibly without an answer to the question Why are you here?.

But it's exciting again! Thank God.

Well I'm glad I featured heavily Grin Tardis

IStoleATimeLordAndIRanAway · 19/09/2015 23:46

NeedAScarf 'twas back in 2012, I don't know if anyone will remember but there was a huge fad for Helvetica list t shirts (the most popular being The Beatles one John&Paul&Ringo&George) I thought I'd be funny and make DH a shirt completely ripping off based somewhat on that design but with the names of Doctors instead.??We met Moffat at the Doctor Who convention and he stared at DHs top for a good minute in silence before glaring at us both and then made a humph sort of noise at us Confused

I think the last series was written for Matt Smith just in case he decided to stay and then they rejigged the stories for PC. I could see Matt doing all last year's stories but this was pure PC. Slow start I thought but hotted up halfway through. next week will be intriguing.

goawayalready · 20/09/2015 08:50

im disappointed already PC is good but he is still hiding is dr who really a coward who makes so many mistakes? they did this in the last series him fucking up on a grand scale (with the daleks again) will he ever be anything but a figurehead?

twas the missy show she stole it

goawayalready · 20/09/2015 08:56

he has no great lines with christopher eccleston when he said run for your life it caught me with david tennant it was good acting matt smith had a fair few good lines but the one i saw recently was don't be nice to the daleks when they're throwing me at a planet he delivered it perfectly had me in stitches

PC nothing im still waiting where is his good line he is a damn good actor and they are wasting him like tennant

AAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!

move over im writing the next series Angry

I struggled to hear the dialogue very well over the music Hmm.

I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, considering the last two series have largely passed me by apart from the odd episode. It was nicely dramatic without straying into the stupid.

I loved it. Loved the surprise of Davros. I knew they were on Skaro (in Genesis of the Daleks, in one of the opening scenes, Tom Baker remarks that the dead soldiers have a mixture of old and new weapons ''It's like finding the remains of a stone age man with a transistor radio'', just like the soldier trying to shoot his plane with a bow and arrow)

The best bit was when Clara thought the confession was for her.

Did the snake turn the gladiator into a Dalek, or was he like that all along? If he was, how did they not know where the Doctor was?

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/09/2015 11:29

I guess it must have been the snake that turned him into a Dalek otherwise they would have known where the Doctor was.

There was lots that I liked in this episode - Missy; PC with the 'tiny anachronisms' of the tank and guitar Grin but I hate that there's no real sense of jeopardy because it makes the audience cleverer than the Doctor iyswim We know the Tardis isn't destroyed and that Clara and Missy aren't dead. Yet the Doctor thinks all those things are true. If it had been a mid-season episode or a season end then we could have shared his fears but it was a bit meh! they're not dead, move on, what happens next? I think that is a bit of a failing for his motivation of going back to Davros as a child.
