Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

When Clara first met the Doctor (Matt Smith) as Clara Oswald, she had called the Tardis phone but she thought she was phoning an IT helpline. She said a woman in a shop gave her the number. At the time, there was speculation about whether it was somehow Rose that had given her the number or Donna or River . . .So it was Missy that brought Clara and the Doctor together because somehow she knew their relationship would be the one that would make the Doctor break all his own rules and possibly end time trying to save her.

IsabellaofFrance · 06/12/2015 08:34

I wanted to like it. I have wanted to like it all series. I love PC, I really do. But its just been so meh!

I still don't get why PC likes Clara so much, why he would do so much to save her. It would be much more believable if it was MS breaking the rules, or DT for Rose. I know that PC is supposed to be a bit of a renegade, but I still just don't see why he would break the rules for Clara. At times it felt like he didn't even like her.

LucasIsMyMuse · 06/12/2015 09:57

The Christmas episode trailer, is that green alien John Simm? I'm convinced it is and it's driving me mad!😄

regenerationfez · 06/12/2015 10:29

Am I the only one who doesn't want to see Jenny again? I don't think she was that great. Yes, the actress is connected to two doctors, but I didn't think she was great as an actress and the character should have died in that episode IMO.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/12/2015 11:25

regener I don't particularly want to see Jenny again and I definitely don't want to see Me again. I was just clumsily making the point that there are now 3 female characters zooming about in space that wouldn't have been there if it hadn't been for the Doctor and yet they're never mentioned again. I understand space is a big place (especially when you add in all of time as well as space) but it just seems a bit of a pattern. (And River would have been a fourth if she hadn't ended up in the Library).

RustyBear · 06/12/2015 11:59

I think it makes sense that the Doctor feels more of an obligation 'a duty of care' as he said, towards Clara than to anyone else, because she went into his timeline to undo the Great Intelligence's attacks - she is linked to every regeneration and saved him so many times. The Great Intelligence went into the Doctor's timeline to undo every victory and turn it to defeat, Clara reversed that, ensuring that he stayed 'The Doctor', the one who saves people. Which is why it was ironic that he was willing to stop being the Doctor and break all his rules in order to save her.

The Moment (the magic war ending box) was in the Doctor's barn because that's where he chose to take it, presumably because it's where he felt safe.

Another reference - stealing the President's daughter -was that Susan, and if so, was the President the Doctor's son/daughter or was Grandfather just a courtesy title?

TheDrsDocMartens · 06/12/2015 13:01

Lass I think Missy did explain that at some point.

Trills · 06/12/2015 13:08

I can just see them all sitting in some space bar like the Mos Eisley Cantina, swopping stories about the Doctor whilst Captain Jack hits on them

Someone write this please? :o

APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/12/2015 13:13

Maybe we should turn this into a fan-fiction thread until the Christmas special Grin

regenerationfez · 06/12/2015 19:36

a place I know what you mean. Apparently it was Moffatt that persuaded RTD to have Jenny come back to life and fly round the universe, and now the same with Clara. So two emotional death scenes have been turned to nothing special, and three characters are flying around, maybe to be used again, or maybe not.(although I actually thought Georgia Moffett had given up acting, so probably not her as Jenny)

SuffolkNWhat · 06/12/2015 19:38

She's recently returned to acting after having her 4th child apparently

regenerationfez · 06/12/2015 19:42

Has she? I thought it had just been born! And D T seems to be spending a lot of time in the US. But good on her if so. I remember Peter Davison being asked about her a couple of years ago and he said she'd given it up to screenwrite or something with a friend.

OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 19:51

Caught up!

I wish Clara had stayed dead because I liked Face The Raven.

Den of Geek has a Geeky Spots thing about each episode which gets all we have here and other things from Old Who.

Missy told the Doctor she'd given Clara the number in Dark Water/Death in Heaven

OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 19:54

Martha walked away (to Torchwood) Rose got a doctor/human and a burnt up star, Donna got wiped to save her life (then a lottery ticket), Amy and Rory had each other, he knows they had a happy ending and amy ultimately chose Rory.

He has gone to incredible lengths for the other companions.

OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 19:58

Scarf, I suspect Moffat is simply porving it's possible to switch TL sex; I doubt very much that the doctor will!

QueenStromba · 06/12/2015 20:29

But this regeneration was not just sex but race - maybe they're preparing us for a black Doctor?

OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 20:34

The Doctor is still President of Earth, right?

A black president of earth with his own jet/flying seat of government before a female one, you say?

No real world parallels here, nope...

regenerationfez · 06/12/2015 20:35

I wouldn't be bothered by a Doctor of a different race. I can't see it being that controversial. We have always seen Black timeloirds, and one of the creators of Doctor Who was Asian. I'm not sure about a female, but I love Missy, so who knows?

QueenStromba · 06/12/2015 20:43

I just sort of assumed that the black timelords stayed black and the white ones stayed white though.

Gruach · 06/12/2015 20:55
Xmas Hmm
OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 20:59

Whowas that at, grauch?

Gruach · 06/12/2015 21:43

If, several billion years from now, at the far end of the universe, Time Lords remain constrained by the conventions pertaining to race that are relevant on puny, 21st century Earth, I for one will be really quite disappointed.

Gruach · 06/12/2015 21:50

(So I was frowning at an idea that hadn't previously occurred to me.)

OneMoreCasualty · 06/12/2015 22:04

It's not convention but genetics, isn't it? What of the genetics (sex, skin colour, height etc) persists through regeneration and what doesn't? It seems that it's all up for grabs!

Gruach · 06/12/2015 22:12

Genetic convention?

As it's highly unlikely that Gallifrey has the same racial history as Earth it's equally unlikely that they would not have eliminated any genetic constraints that limit a Time Lord to just one race. Surely?
