Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

But he hasn't brought all the innocent time lords that died pre him hiding galifry back to life has he? So he hasn't rectified it, he was a solider in a war that killed thousands of his own race. He's saved the people on galafry at the time he hid it, he didn't save those that were fighting darleks in other places all the planets that were distroyed in the the time war, through out 9 and 10 there were numerous references to spieces that had lost their planet in the time war. So no he hasn't refified it at all. He saved one planet. That's kike saying oh well Germany didn't invade England so all the solders from England should just forget the horror they saw.

Yes it was written with rememberce in mind, he was reflecting how a lot of soilders feel even though they "won" the guilt and Horror doesn't go away.

And btw I'm an irish so I tend not to celebrate remembrance but I actually fount the speech poignant.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 08/11/2015 20:33

And I know neither the doctor or the time war are real but in the characters universe they are!

SouthWestmom · 08/11/2015 20:58

Well thank goodness you added that last post as I wasn't sure...Grin

Monroe · 08/11/2015 21:36

Totally off topic but I had a random thought about the "Os's"
Osgood
Oswin
Oswald
Probably absolutely nothing and I have no theory at all, just thought I'd put it out there Smile

Gruach · 08/11/2015 21:49

Well ... With Osgood we've had a continuation of the two themes of hybridity and cheating death; so that connects her (them) to what we're expecting for Clara. (Or, at least, I am.)

I've always assumed Oswin is to be a mistaken or misremembered Oswald (like the last two letters peeling off a label or falling off a tin).

BertieBotts · 08/11/2015 22:06

I have been wondering that for a while, Monroe. It can't be a coincidence.

TheDrsDocMartens · 09/11/2015 07:50

We had that debate at home when dd1 got confused by Osgood. It's not like it's a common surname.

& yes we said hybrids too.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 09/11/2015 14:09

I've just caught up on the iplayer. I liked this episode. It felt like Dr Who and I'm always happy to hear a 'let's think before we bomb/shoot people speech'.

BeckerLleytonNever · 09/11/2015 17:03

RealHuman I hate them all too! and I loathed Rose, but I liked Martha.

didn't bother watching it. and trailer for next week looks yawny too, much as I love Reese Shearsmith. Sad.

Osgood is bloody annoying, but the worst one had to be gobby schoolgirl from the last series, the one that went to the moon.

she was interviwed in the DW mag and was just as gobby and full of herself.

RealHuman · 09/11/2015 17:08

It took me a while to warm to Donna but I liked her in the end too. Rose was annoying but I think she was an important part of getting the reboot going.

regenerationfez · 09/11/2015 19:04

I think the constant comebacks ruined Rose. She was good with 9 &10 but the soppy love story went on too long and ruined Martha's story as well with the mooning.

thegiddylimit · 10/11/2015 15:06

Getting back to Osgood, the one who was around all through the episode was the human one wasn't she. Because the Zygon version wouldn't have survived without the human. But also, the fact that Bonnie became one of the Osgoods also shows the other Osgood must be the human version. Because Zygons can't copy disguises from each other, they need the original.

The question is, is there a clue in all that related to the whole hybrid thing?

Agree the double parters don't really work, I'd prefer more story arc across the entire series and less individual stories. Like Old Who in fact. The two parters feel like a clunky move towards that but I guess we all kept saying we liked 2 parters more because they allowed the story to develop. But maybe we need to story arc to feel more like the main story (instead of these hints of hybrids but no development beyond that) with the weekly adventures being the background.

RealHuman · 10/11/2015 16:06

I like the two-parters. A lot of old Who was 4-6 half hour episodes, and quite slow at times, so in some ways this is more similar to that than a whole series of hour-long episodes would be. But this discussion shows how hard it is to please all the fandom all the time - we all want different things!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 10/11/2015 18:16

RealHuman I think you are exactly right about the pace. The slower pace is actually necessary to let two-parters breathe. I don't think they have that pacing right yet and they also don't have the wider arc to link the episodes together. Well, actually, they probably do have it but they aren't making it obvious enough what it is.

HappyCria · 10/11/2015 20:25

I think the story arc is about why the doctor origanally ran from gallifrey.

It was hinted I think that was what was in his confession dial and Davros said he ran from the part he was to play in creating the hybrid.

Plus there has been lots of diffrent hybrids in each episode of this series so far and we know it is to be Clara's last series.

I'm not sure exactly where the story arc is heading but i'm pretty sure all of these things will be linked by the end.

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/11/2015 20:48

More hybrids.

Fairiesarereal · 14/11/2015 22:09

I thought it was a load of old tosh tonight Sad

regenerationfez · 14/11/2015 22:16

God that was so rubbish I see no one else can even be bothered to post. No proper conclusion, stupid monster. Is it a 2 parter?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/11/2015 22:19

it was pretty crap :(

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/11/2015 22:23

I didn't get that one and I've liked the ones no one else did here.

RealHuman · 14/11/2015 22:33

I didn't like it - waste of Reece Shearsmith and no title sequence so no opportunity to clean my glasses, until I realised nothing interesting was going to happen and cleaned them anyway.

RealHuman · 14/11/2015 22:38

They could have done something interesting with the idea of machines that cut a night's sleep down to five minutes - maybe a race of superproductive supermen, inexorable, better than you, more accomplished than you, the division of people into those who can afford Morpheus and those who can't, sending a schism through humanity, with the ubermenschen gaining power and slowly going mad in an ambiguous, creepy and subtle way. Instead we got the crusty sleepy-in-your-eye monster.

RealHuman · 14/11/2015 22:56

Or maybe you're stealing sleep from your future self. People start dying, and nobody can work out why. Until someone works out that through timeywimey stuff, every eight hours of wakefulness you gain is eight hours off the end of your life - some people were going to die quite soon, though they didn't know it, others could use the machine for decades and not suffer any apparent ill-effects. And here's the twist - when the truth comes out, some people choose to continue to use it anyway.

BertieBotts · 14/11/2015 22:56

Tonight was horrendous. No story, no characters, no resolution, it didn't even make sense Confused

And I loathe that shakycam, blair witch type thing but I don't even think it was that which was influencing it. It was just a totally shit episode.

RealHuman · 14/11/2015 22:59

Or perhaps there's a subterranean race of people, like the Morlocks, sleeping their lives away, while the Eloi above get to enjoy 23h and 55m awake every day. It's an open secret, and when the Doctor finds out he works out a way to spread the message among the Morlock-people through their dreams, sonics them all awake through the network connecting them to the Morpheus machines, and they peacefully revolt and demand their share of waking life.
