Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

I'd read the thread before watching it this evening and have a degree and am a Dr Who fan and still don't get wtf happened there.
Can we keep it simple please.
Endings making sense shouldn't hinge on a couple of complex sentences you have to rewind about 50 times.

Trills · 14/10/2015 08:42

The ending doesn't hinge on it.

You can just accept that he made a fake ghost, if you like.

You don't have to enjoy paradoxes.

The paradox is: if he got the idea "make a fake ghost" AFTER Clara told him there was a ghost, then there's a loop.

He decided to make a ghost because there was a ghost. There was a ghost because he decided to make a ghost. So whose idea was it?

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 14/10/2015 08:59

Clara gets right on my tits. She's just too bloody perky. Even in times of peril there she is, chirping away. And why does she occasionally go into a Northern accent?!

Ugh. Get rid of her. Bring back Donna.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/10/2015 10:31

Is anyone else distracted by Clara's hd eyebrows? They're like a new character in their own right.

BeckerLleytonNever · 16/10/2015 18:04

And another thing- why the hell do they have to change some of the monsters so much beyond recognition?

just watched a Silurian story with the gorgeous Jon Pertwee, and okay, obvious rubber suits and see the masks, but the Silurians are changed completely now, as are the cybermen.

Gruach · 17/10/2015 08:34

Evolution?

RustyBear · 17/10/2015 12:51

The cyberman have changed drastically in appearance several times since their first appearance in The Tenth Planet, so it's not just down to the new series.

In any case, there are at least three distinct creations of Cybermen

  • the first ones who invaded the moon in Tenth Planet who were the original inhabitants of Earth's twin planet who cyber converted themselves
  • the ones created by John Lumik of Cybus industries in the parallel universe, who later invaded this universe through the Void
-the ones created by The Master/Missy in Dark Water/Death in Heaven

In any case, it's not unlikely that a cyber race would make changes to their appearance and capabilities as their technology advanced.

As for the Silurians, I seem to remember a reference somewhere to the fact that there was more than one type, so they could differ in appearance as much as, for example, dogs do.

It looked and sounded like her, yes.

Did anyone else think of Captain Jack Harkness when the subject of immortality came up?

regenerationfez · 17/10/2015 21:43

yes looks like she is.

SuffolkNWhat · 17/10/2015 21:52

The next episode is called The Woman Who Lived, it's the same character just in the future (for her, not the Dr)

That was the heart of the tardis & bad wolf

RustyBear · 17/10/2015 22:23

Jack's immortal because Rose used the power of the TARDIS' time vortex to bring him back from extermination by the daleks, but she couldn't control the power, so she 'brought him back for good', as the Doctor explained in Utopia.

When you find out come back and tell us! :)

Trills · 17/10/2015 22:25

Ooops, should have refreshed!

Gruach · 17/10/2015 22:38

Ohhhh - loving the death theme that's emerging. Last week it was the Fisher King being accused of eliminating the thing that dustiguishes humans from ... can't remember what ... that is, their ability to die. Now it's been referred to again.

I wonder if, in the end, the Dr will transpose (?) Clara into a Dalek himself to keep her safe.

Also wondering why he didn't give Clara one of the the Mira repair pills. Perhaps her already shattered self would have made that too complicated.

Better than expected.

regenerationfez · 17/10/2015 23:20

Yes I liked it too. It was entertaining, had a reasonable story and an interesting ending. The baby was annoying though.I know the purpose of her but I don't think PC pulled it off as well as MS did with Stormageddon!

He kind of explained that he brought Ashdir or whatever her name was back to life in a rash and emotional moment, but he knows what immortality is like. It's just watching everyone you love die around you. He wouldn't want that for Clara.

Monroe · 17/10/2015 23:38

Yes, I think Maisy is Dick Turpin and yes I thought of Cap Jack when he mentioned immortality. Although I think the reference to her being a hybrid might be significant for some reason.

There does seem to be a lot of death references although I would have thought they would have been more relevant to last season if there was a link, to missy and her afterworld.

I loved Stormageddon Smile

It's all coming together. Death and hybrids repeatedly signposted from the start: Missy, Davros, ghosts, the girl who died ...

The first double episode was about a 99% Dalek, 1% human hybrid - surely it's certain now that the series will end with a 99% Human, 1% Dalek hybrid? Probably unable to die.
