Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

I like PC and think he could have been one of my favourite Doctors but the writing just lets it down.
YY, exactly this.

BeckerLleytonNever · 08/10/2015 17:07

Wow! didn't think id get aggreements, so thanks Grin.

and yes, agree with the stupid sunglasses that would have been perfect for Chris Eccles, but totally wrong for PC.

and yes, agree, PCs the best and perfect for the role but the stories are shite. Tardis.

CAn someone the last comments Clara made... She asked the doctor when he first thought the thoughts to program the ghost or whatever and then she realised and said 'oh' or something... What did she realise?! Was it that he only realised what to do when she showed him via the phone link? Please explain someoneGrin

Rummikub · 10/10/2015 21:13

I think the opening scene had something to do with what Clara said. Bit I don't get it. That the Doctor thought of it in the time of Beethoven?? I'm confused.

TheDrsDocMartens · 10/10/2015 21:25

He got the idea from doing the same thing with Beethoven I think.

SouthWestmom · 10/10/2015 21:43

Well one of the 4dc has opted out, one was fiddling with his phone, one was watching and one understood nothing. I didn't really get it - there was a disconnect between the two parts and I totally agree with whoever said that Dr Who dying just doesn't hold any jeopardy.
I do think that it was getting back to being quite straight forward - I think I am alone in hating all the previous tennant and smith stuff about cracks in walls, soldiers, and hiding his home planet etx.

The Beethoven thing was that if Beethoven didn't really exist and the fan copied the music from the future, which then became Beethoven's music, who wrote the music. Not Beethoven, because he didn't exist, and not the fan as he was just copying it. It's one of those timey-whmy paradoxes. Grin The doctor and the ghost doctor was the same principle.
I loved tonight, best in a while, in my opinion. DS3 doesn't think the Vikings look very exciting next week though.

Vikings look like another Robin Hood ...

Quite enjoyed tonight, though it reminded me of the long lamented Ultraviolet episode with Idris Elba.

SausageSmuggler · 11/10/2015 07:59

I didn't really get the bit about Beethoven either.
I am warming to PC this series, they seem to have given him a bit more personality.
I'm hoping the next episode is a bit more kid friendly, DC's haven't been able to watch much so far.

SconeForAStroll · 11/10/2015 09:21

I am a bit disappointed by this season. I watched last season thinking that the writers hadn't got the cadence of PC and that the lines wounded like they were written for MS.

But what happened to the slightly grumpy doctor? What happened to his lightness of touch? It just all feels a bit 'off' to me. He seems so earnest this season. And I hate the bloody sunglasses.

I am off to watch Chris Eccleston - those were great.

Trills · 11/10/2015 14:03

I enjoyed the bootstrap paradox.

Rummikub · 11/10/2015 14:04

Can you explain the bootstrap parado please?

Trills · 11/10/2015 15:31

In the time it takes me to type it out, you could go on iPlayer and watch the first 45 seconds of the episode.

Or Google it, as Peter Capaldi told you to.

It's a loop with no beginning.

You do something because future-you-in-the-past tells you to do it.

Then you travel to the past.

And you tell past-you-in-the-future to do it.

Because you remember it already happened.

I can't explain it better than it was explained in the episode or better than it is written.

Rummikub · 11/10/2015 16:03

Ok thanks. I did get that part, ish. Youve explained it well enough. And I have googled bootstrap theory but it talks about quantum theory and particles I've never heard of.

Oh and i found an alternate bootstrap theory which is about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and make a success of yourself..

SuffolkNWhat · 11/10/2015 16:12

Bootstrap paradox = Harry being able to produce his Patronus because he'd already seen himself do it.

Trills · 11/10/2015 16:14

It's named after a short story that refers to that.

The point being that you can't pull yourself up by your own bootstraps - because you are the one pulling. It's an illogical expression.

vindscreenviper · 11/10/2015 16:21

The DC still love it but I'm getting hacked off with the late start times, if the BBC want this to be 'event' TV for the whole family then they need to show it earlier.

Yes I can record it or we can watch it on catch up but then it is just like all the other 'stuff' we can choose from, rather than the once-a-week-everbody-sits-down-with-a-bowl-of-popcorn thing that we have been doing since series 6.

Sad
Trills · 11/10/2015 16:23

Or General Hammond writing a note for SG1 to give to him in 1969, because in 1969 he received a note from his older self.

Trills · 11/10/2015 16:24

Or David Tennant's Doctor recording the video that talks to Sally Sparrow in Blink, because after she watches it she sees him and gives him the transcript.

Rummikub · 11/10/2015 16:38

Great link trills.

This is what I've been googling!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootstrap_model

Now I only did physics to A level but that is beyond me..

BeckerLleytonNever · 12/10/2015 16:56
