Hooray! Let's hope that this series is better than the last.
Oh look it's Arya Stark! And more Missy!
And PC's hair is madder than ever!
(And I've found the box of exclamation marks!!!!!)
Let's see Tardis

Good, old fashioned Dr Who: peril in a small space plus some 21st century tech. Very enjoyable. Lots of shouts of alarm here. Vast improvement on the last series.

Monroe · 04/10/2015 08:38

I really liked this one especially PC. It's took me a long time to warm to him but I thought he was great as the doctor. I kept chuckling at all his one liners too, although I can't remember any of them now.

The chat in the tardis with Clara might be significant for the future. The impression I got was that she is being a bit too enthusiastic about all the monster chasing and putting herself into dangerous situations.

Sorry, I can't remember any of the names but I get why the sign guy wasn't killed by the ghost, because he hadn't seen the code thingy inside the spaceship I'm guessing. But why did the sign lady stop him going into it in the first place? Think she said it was dangerous or something. But how did she know? Or was she just playing it safe. I don't think either of them went inside?

Gruach · 04/10/2015 08:54

Oh! Thank you Monroe I hadn't quite grasped that (unusual amount of interruption while watching so I wasnt concentrating). But I'm also wondering if there's more to Cass than meets the eye.

Asheth · 04/10/2015 09:36

Great episode last night! I hadn't realisedthat it was going to be a two parter, so it was a great surprise when the episode ended just as I expected it to be neatly wrapped up!

BestIsWest · 04/10/2015 10:29

This series is all two parters.

I wasn't keen on last nights, wasn't sure what was going on plus we had interruption here too.

BestIsWest · 04/10/2015 10:30

I'm also disappointed that the BBC are putting them on so late. Doctor Who belongs in the 7pm slot.

SouthWestmom · 04/10/2015 10:49

YY to leaving Clara as a dalek - I really thought they were going to do that. Otherwise I don't understand how she was inside a dalek in the first place.

Tbh with DT and MS I just found it all way too complicated - the crack in the wall and the frozen soldier and him growing old and then saving his planet etx - it needed way too much effort with little reward.

I love the Dr Who, bad guys in space ones

I think time is going to be an issue because of Strictly. It would be too early if it was on before it.

And judging by the viewing figures, the vast majority of people watch on catch-up.

TheDrsDocMartens · 04/10/2015 20:47

I've just caught up. Grin

Loved it. Guessed her lip reading skills would be useful and didn't pick up the fact they've not read the thing in the space ship. Looking forward to next week.

Have you all seen the new spinoff coming?

DadOnIce · 05/10/2015 15:51

I'm just surprised the Doctor can't lip-read.

Having the deaf woman there for that plot point seemed a bit obvious. Like she couldn't just be a deaf person in charge of a military base, in the same way she happened to be a woman, or one of the others happened to be Scottish.

Still, good episode...

TheDrsDocMartens · 05/10/2015 17:57

Like that it was an interpreter (even if he did speak before her at one point Wink) rather than another staff member who happened to be signing whilst everyone else jabbered away

thegiddylimit · 05/10/2015 22:16

one of the others happened to be Scottish

More than one Scot at the beginning actually. Steven Robertson (who played Pritchard with a posh Scottish accent - the second one to get killed. He's brilliant, he was very creepy in Being Human and does a watered down version of his native accent in Shetland) and Morven Christie (who played the Glaswegian O'Donnell).

Anyway, much discussion about this at work (I'm a Scientist, we're all obsessed with Doctor Who). We all like the double episodes and have enjoyed all three episodes so far. Only issue with double episodes is that it leaves you with a 'ohhhhhh!' moment at the end but then you have time to work out what is going to happen, like Missy being the Master last series. We have a theory about who is in the life support box. I will say no more.

Didn't the doctor claim he could sign at the beginning and then couldn't - the Tardis has switched off the automatic translation, also explains why he couldn't read the writing.

Katymac · 05/10/2015 22:21

I have a theory too......what/who's in the box!!

BiscuitMillionaire · 05/10/2015 22:29

I'm thinking of starting a support group for mothers of DCs who watched Dr Who and then were awake half the night scared out of their wits. I stupidly let mine watch it on iplayer on Sunday, then had a job interview today. Not good on 3 hours sleep. I didn't get the job, btw.

MyBeloved · 06/10/2015 09:21

I find Clara and the 12th Doctor intensely irritating.

My dcs have been mad Whovians since they were little (both late teens now) and they are not even bothered if they miss an episode now which would have been unthinkable before Clara.

Disappointed to learn she changed her mind about leaving.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/10/2015 13:32

I liked Clara when she first joined but I'm bored with her now.

I was a bit meh about this episode but I've not adjusted to the new pace of the two-parters. I'm surprised at myself but I think I'm falling out of love with Doctor Who Shock

Davros · 06/10/2015 15:05

I enjoyed this episode, although rather derivative (of DW). I fell asleep in the ones with Missy and didn't bother to watch on catch up, didn't like Misdy and found the whole female Master thing annoying. Not a patch on John Simm's Master. Hope we're going to get a few good, proper, space-set stories with baddies

BeckerLleytonNever · 06/10/2015 17:30

prob going to have a million jammy dodgers thrown at me but....Im done with the new WHO.

I LOVE PC but hes wasted on this crap.

They should pull the plug for a few years and come back fresh. the Davros episode was completely inconsistent with past Skaro stories, too many pedantic moments to mention , cant stand female master, only loved seeing the old daleks.

I MAY only give the MArk Gattis written ones a go as he's more retro and 'gets' DW more.

Im sticking with the old ones. Patrick Troughton currently on horror channel. wish theyd show the complete Hartnell era. Tardis.

moffats gotten too big for his boots and is just 'in with the in crowd' and completely lost what DW is. and its supposed to be family viewing, its getting later and later and too grown up.

Davros · 06/10/2015 20:09

Totally agree. It's always been a FAMILY show and it's less and less so. To fucking clever by half

APlaceOnTheCouch · 06/10/2015 21:01

Becker no jammy dodger throwing here. DW has always been a bit inconsistent. There are some episodes I've loved and others that I haven't particularly liked, but this is the first time that I've thought I'm not sure I'll be watching next week. I don't care who is in the casket or how the Doctor got turned into a ghost because he's not going to be one permanently so yet again there is no sense of jeopardy

BestIsWest · 06/10/2015 21:01

Hmm, mine are divided. DS (17 and once had his photo in Doctor Who magazine to his delight) used to be obsessed but hates Stephen Moffat's writing. DD is a bit older again but loves it.

I agree it's getting too grown up. Mind you, there's not much more scary than The Empty Child.

SausageSmuggler · 06/10/2015 21:15

Christ the Empty Child was fucking terrifying! I agree that its becoming less family orientated which is a real shame. I'm raising my DC's as proper whovians though and I'm oddly proud that DS (5) can reel off all the doctors. I do have to vet the episodes however and this weeks was too scary. I won't let them watch anything with a weeping angel because they scare me.

ijustwannadance · 06/10/2015 21:24

I cant stand PC. Sonic sunglasses? The only doc who could've possibly pulled those off was eccleston in his leather coat. Hate all the 2 parters too. As soon as the deaf woman was shown I said oh look, someone to lipread the ghosts. Clara is so dull now. Missy is great though.

CaptainHammer · 07/10/2015 21:47

Becker I agree with you. I used to be excited when I saw Moffat had written the episode, now I'm just 'meh'.
I like PC and think he could have been one of my favourite Doctors but the writing just lets it down.

ijustwannadance The sunglasses are ridiculous!
