Pardon my ignorance but what's this of which you and ice are talking about? Sounds rather interesting...

icemistOBE · 23/07/2015 16:14

Me either pixie I do recall from a few years ago booking a girl and her friend to Cyprus to visit her boyfriend who was stationed there, but he wasn't able to go into Ayia Napa (even during the day) so she didn't want to stay there.

This kel
if you move to Cyprus with OH

Are you researching for a new story pixie

OP posts:
pixieg1rl · 23/07/2015 16:23

I am ice, but I'm getting distracted by the stuff on MOD website. I have visions of squaddies spending their down time making minions out of toilet roll tubes in the craft centre Grin

KellyHb · 23/07/2015 16:40

Ah. Thanks ice. I like the bit about the swimwear where it says 'bring plenty-the sun does something to the elastic' Smile. Would people actually take their washer overseas with them??

Glad its to do with a new story pix

icemistOBE · 23/07/2015 16:53

Probably kel usually postings there are for a long period of time.

When we moved to Kenya I used to have fantasies about my washing machine Kelly. 6 months of washing everything from pants to king size duvet covers in the bath was horrible. In the end we got a second hand twin tub. I loved that thing more than is strictly healthy to admit. (And not just when it was on the spin cycle Wink)

Nickel45 · 23/07/2015 17:06

That's brilliant pix, made me laugh. My one and only time in Cyprus was on a work do - brilliant time. However, my now-DH (he wasn't at the time), was also at the jolly very important conference, but had to get an exit visa, cos his parents were born over there, and without it he would have to do national service (despite having a UK passport!). Being not at all organised, he didn't do it before he left the UK, and we had to spend an afternoon finding and then sitting in the military office waiting for the visa. He was held at the airport for ages on the way out at 3 in the morning, having been trying to be funny with the officials - they didn't think he was! the rest of us, who had been drinking all night, found it highly hilarious.

KellyHb · 23/07/2015 21:11

Well I've just discovered some good news.

The Sunderland Air Show is on this weekend!! This also means plenty of Royal Marines, Army and Air Force tents and stalls (and cockpits where there's many knobs/buttons to fiddle with) Grin There's always lots of servicemen situated to talk to the public too. I'm going to make it my absolute priority to find a CJ lookalike!

I've pre-warned DH our itinerary! Smile And yes I probably will disgrace myself.

Ilovelblue · 23/07/2015 22:17

orphan glad you're having a good time - shame about the mosquitoes though. Yes, Monty was wearing that dreadful shabby blue suit - I always say it looks like prison issue. He was wearing a poncey pale blue scarf with it yesterday. It wasn't great weather until late afternoon (dull, a bit breezy and a couple of heavy showers) but it wasn't cold. I don't care for him very much really. He seems a very amenable character in front of the camera but as soon as filming stops, he disappears and has no interaction with the public. If it wasn't for the likes of us, he wouldn't be a celebrity gardener. Carol Klein is lovely though. She came into the restaurant where we were eating last night.

Wow ilove. I know nothing about plants but that looks like a cracking Allium. Love the shed too. It sounded like you had a lovely day.

Ilovelblue · 23/07/2015 22:47

pixie so sorry to hear about Mr P's Mum. My godmother had pancreatic cancer and it's not a good one to have. My cousin's wife also has it but has kept going for about 3 years now. They live in New Zealand and she went to Australia for pioneering treatment.

Had to laugh at my friend yesterday when we were at Tatton. She had met a man who runs a nursery near us and who had exhibited for the first time at Chelsea, winning a clutch of gold medals and said he would be at Tatton. "It's worth finding his stall just to look at him. He's drop dead gorgeous". We split up in the Floral Marquee as I wanted to take photos first and I happened to see his stall. I won't say my expectations were as high as thinking I would see a real life CJ, but I suppose I had a vision in my head and this guy was way off the mark. I engaged him in conversation just to make sure I had the right man. He was very pleasant to talk to but short (not much taller than me) and if he'd stood in a queue in a supermarket, I certainly would have been unlikely to look twice at him. Not sure what my friend could see that I couldn't.

Need to get ready for bed - back to work tomorrow. Only two weeks though till my holidays so I guess I need to put some bloody effort in.

More pictures of Tatton..........

Kelly hope you noticed that allium is called Jackpot. Hearing that word now automatically makes me think of episode 2 of OG. I even have some tulips I got in Amsterdam called Jackpot too!

KellyHb · 23/07/2015 23:37

Yes ilove that's one of my favourite bits of episode 2. I can't remember exactly what CJ says but its when he reports in the dead insurgents and talks in the radio and says something like 1,2 jackpot. Smile

If your friend thinks that man was gorgeous (pity he wasn't), she's going to flipping love CJ!

pixieg1rl · 23/07/2015 23:56

Thanks ilove and everyone for the comments about MIL. It's very early days so we don't really know anything at the moment. All I know is that it isn't a good one to have.

I've yet to see anyone gorgeous on a nursery stand at a flower show. They're usually lovely and engaging people but not as sexy as you'd hope a man of the soil to be.

SoEverybodyDance · 24/07/2015 02:27

Pixie also sorry to hear about your MIL. Have you thought of contacting Macmillan for info and support. They might be worth a call. They have specialist nurses on the phones and chat rooms for various types of cancer which can be good for getting information about a particular diagnosis.

I joined the liver secondary chat room when my MIL was thought to have liver secondaries. People said the same thing to us that it was not a good cancer to have - but in the chat rooms we discovered the situation was much more complex and varied and some people were living for years with newer treatments.

Good luck with it all.

Liking the sound of your Cyprus research...

icemistOBE · 24/07/2015 06:56

Morning. Work today been off tues till yesterday. Feels like I've had a week off! 2 more days then I've 2 weeks off! Not long till CJ is back where he belongs Grin

Morning all, ice I'm looking forward to all Intel if CJ whereabouts! I'm off to London tomorrow for the passport appointment. I'll be taking a trip to the nespresso shop and will keep my eyes peeled for a BA sighting :)

pixie I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. I do hope you get some more positive news soon.

pixieg1rl · 24/07/2015 08:18

OG soundtrack on and bacon butty for breakfast in preparation for a day of family fun as DS off nursery and MrP not working (aka been on his laptop since 7am and refused to put his out of office on). Due to piss down all day. Fun.

KellyHb · 24/07/2015 08:31

Morning all.

Woken early by binmen truck being loud outside - gits!

Rich wow hope you have a BA sighting somewhere. I think I would be like Molly if I went in that Nespresso shop-shocked the whole shop is just for coffee. Smile

Adore that third photo ice. He totally looks like he's just been kissing. Love it Grin

ice I read last night that the American Psycho play is being moved to Broadway and rehearsals start January next year. You don't think BA would be involved in this just if he was, it would be the same time OG would be filming and might not be available. Have you heard anything?

Dizzydots · 24/07/2015 09:30

Gorgeous pics ilove and looks like you had lovely sunny weather. We are on alert for strong wind and loads of rain over the next 24hrs (and it's suddenly much colder), hoping the garden doesn't get too battered, esp with my agapanthus just coming out.

orphan · 24/07/2015 10:05

Bonjour à tous mes collègues fous!

Yet another hot clear blue sky morning but need to make the most of it as tomorrow we're heading to Normandy for a week. We won't have a pool anymore but tbh looking at the predicted weather, don't think we'll need one. I think I'll cry when I have to say goodbye to my trusty lilo...

always have you all arrived safely? I expect you're now basking in the heat and having your second top up of kir.

pixie so very sorry about the news of Mr P's mum. Massive hugs to you and I hope you're all holding up. I think dance had good advice. Flowers

KeziaOAP · 24/07/2015 10:09

Morning all, back from my travels to France visiting rellies. I made a conscious very difficult decision not to peep in here and FF whilst away until I found two OG fans in France the day before travelling back! We went out to lunch with a couple, friends of b-i-l, and in chatting about British TV versus French, as you do, OG was mentioned by the husband turns out they are great fans of the series. They didn't know about series 2 and both were unhappy that LT wasn't in. Comment from him was "LT is the girl next door, MK certainly isn't". Comment from his OH "would have to be a new story with a new captain othewise CJ would come across as a cad and fans wouldn't be happy".

Found out later from b-i-l that his friend was a Captain in the army, retired 20 years ago. I have given them a link to this thread and FF, although they did say they don't participate in social media.

orphan · 24/07/2015 10:17

ilove oh dear, you confirmed my worst fears about Monty. Just wish his wife would burn his suits. I do hope it wasn't her idea to jazz them up with that scarf.

On a horticultural note, I've been really impressed by the floral displays in the local towns here. None of that horrible municipal bedding plant stuff, but proper plants obvs planted by someone with an idea of garden design!

orphan · 24/07/2015 10:22

kezia congrats on your will power. I only managed a few days of holding out. Smile
