Morning, gorgeous sunshine here and Race Day for me so I'll be winning loads of money later Wink Not expecting to see much in the way of low slungness though, in fact quite the opposite, don't jockeys pull them up really really high plus I'm not really a silks kind of gal!! and Kaiser Chiefs after the races to look forward to Smile Smile

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 10:50

Wow. Have a great day dizzy. Hope you win big!!

Dizzydots · 31/07/2015 10:59

Thanks kelly, tbh I'm not a betting person but we've decided to have some flutters today (with a strict budget in mind), I know nothing about horse racing so will probably just go by whatever takes my fancy and the horses names - just like I choose my wine by looking for a pretty label!!!

pixieg1rl · 31/07/2015 11:09

Ooh Dizzy, is that at Newmarket? Have a lovely time.

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 11:09

We have a Ladies Day up here at Newcastle Racecourse. Friends of mine go and they normally win most of the time. I should go one year but I know nothing about racing either.

Dizzydots · 31/07/2015 12:29

Yes Newmarket pix just been studying the form with DH - could easily be a euphemism I'd say!!! It's all a bit baffling, just going to have to go with the flow!

Dizzydots · 31/07/2015 12:31

Apparently there's something called a long handicap Grin

Richtea19 · 31/07/2015 13:25

I love going to the races, but have never been to Newmarket. I've been to ascot a few times which always ends up a bit of train reck which alcohol consumption! We have a friend whose son races professionally. He spent a lot of time in the Emirates working. His racing at Thirsk, Yorkshire today. George Bucknell is his name and worth putting a bet on if you ever come across him.

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 20:55

Evening all.

Wow, it's quiet on here today.

ice are you able to copy the Cultbox OG article link from FF FB page over to here. I've tried but it wont work.

Rhubarb01 · 31/07/2015 21:05

Evening! Is it this one Kelly?

www.cultbox.co.uk/features/opinion/our-girl-opinion-for-and-against-season-2s-big-recast

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 21:16

Yes it is Rhu thanks.

Rhubarb01 · 31/07/2015 21:19

Just finished reading it. I'm not sure it says anything new that we haven't said already on here except for that frightening suggestion that none of us raised that CJ might just say something vague about things not working out with Molly and then move on - Oh please don't do that TG! It wouldn't bother new viewers to the show but I do think it would certainly annoy and alienate most of us. I actually really would hate that! I know we might be CJ fans but only because of the CJ/MD dynamic that was so appealing. I do want CJ do be there in a military role but I'm quite happy for him to be one step removed from any emotional entanglements. I'd be quite happy to see GL having entanglements with someone else.

Anyway I'm going to cross my fingers and tell myself TG is much too skillful and imaginative a writer to do something lazy and annoying like writing Molly off with one throw away remark. Don't do it TG - please!

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 21:26

You hit the nail on the head there Rhu that's what annoyed/worried me when I read the part about if CJ was to say things hadn't worked out with Molly to move the story on. WTF? Maybe the writer of this article didn't feel the CJ/Molly love when he watched S1 as much as we did. Smile

pixieg1rl · 31/07/2015 21:40

I think given that OG was written as a vehicle for Lacey and she hasn't ruled any returns should there be a S3 then I would have some expectations of a mention of her to keep a thread running through the programme. I agree with rhu that writing off the MD/CJ relationship off screen isn't something I think TG would do.

Rhubarb01 · 31/07/2015 21:52

I think it would be a more interesting challenge for TG to deal with the difficulties of relationships, and long-distance ones at that, in the army by keeping CJ and MD together and he wouldn't employ soap tactics of just moving the handsome hottie towards the next suitable female candidate. Like you pixie I'm hoping that LT will consider returning for a series 3 - or are we just being incredibly hopeful given all the funding cuts the BBC could be facing?

icemistOBE · 31/07/2015 22:01

Totally agree would be too easy to say 'we split up ' but far more interesting to explore the relationship of them being separated

pixieg1rl · 31/07/2015 22:01

I hope that given the Georgie character is more senior in rank (Corporal IIRC) she will be older and have other relationship tensions in her life for TG to explore. I'd really like him to get his teeth into how hard it is for people to have a young family in the army, especially (and I'm sure it is more difficult) for women.

Rhubarb01 · 31/07/2015 22:25

A few weeks ago I caught part of a film about a female soldier returning from Afghanistan. She was married to another soldier who hadn't been away on tour at the same time and they had a young son. Joanne Froggatt was in it. It was a bit bleak and I did turn off before the ending because I had an idea what was going to happen and I didn't like it. That certainly looked at the problems - stress, PTSD, jealousies about her being involved with someone else. Certainly there's a lot that could be said. Imagine if the new GL character has a partner who's non-military and a child. Let's hope he does something like that with a bit of humour thrown in as well.

Ilovelblue · 31/07/2015 23:06

Just catching up here and reading the views/concerns/vision on the new series of OG. That article could almost have been written by us!

Update on the leaving card and collection for our boss: the two deputy managers signed it and when we looked inside, they had put in £30 between them so the psychology clearly worked. I might use that trick again. Other work colleagues said how nice the card was and I repeated the tale from yesterday several times over......!

Who's on holiday next week? ice, Richtea, anyone else?

KellyHb · 31/07/2015 23:33

Nope not me ilove Is it next week you're away? Glad you had a happy ending regarding your card too. Smile

Reading the comments on the Main OG Facebook page and people are really not happy at all. A few saying they're not going to bother watching S2.

I would love it rhu if there was a series 3 and LT would want to come back (but would she if it meant being away from her family again?) but imagine if BA's career sky rocketed (which I think it will after this series) and couldn't come back. Typical.

As long as I get some sort of cameo/wedding scene for MD/CJ in S2 (I live in hope) then I'm mostly happy.

moojangles · 01/08/2015 07:18

I'm off on my hols next week! Off to Warwick Castle today, have a good day folks!

Ilovelblue · 01/08/2015 07:20

Kelly I'm away the week after next. ice will put CJ on a flight to Heathrow and he'll have to find his way to St Pancras.

Lovely sunny morning here but lots of rain overnight. Need to start thinking which clothes I am taking away, ie, what needs ironing!

pixieg1rl · 01/08/2015 07:30

Village fete today. I'll be trying to not think about craggy island all day (there's going to be a best sheep competition)

KellyHb · 01/08/2015 08:20

Morning all.

DH had the heating on overnight so its absolutely boiling this morning in the house. Hmm

I've got loads of washing to do this morning and this afternoon, I've got a friend coming over who I used to work with. He's the one I briefly write about the other week who would love a girlfriend. Hes a lovely person but not much confidence with the ladies. He says he's in his late thirties and times running out for him to find someone-bless. I've said to DH to take him out for a drink somewhere local for a bit.

Have a lovely day mooj. Warwick Castle is lovely. DH used to work away round there and we spent a lovely afternoon looking round it.

Bet you're excited for your hols ilove. Not long to go now.

Can't wait to watch BA in First Light tonight. Smile

Rhubarb01 · 01/08/2015 08:39

Morning! I forgot First Light was on tonight - thanks for the reminder. I remember seeing it the first time it was broadcast and I do recall thinking that the Squadron Leader chap (BA) was quite nice in it but the story does mainly focus on Geoffrey Welland (Think it's him). It goes to show just how young those men were at that time if BA was playing the older more experienced man. I think the main young character was only 19 or 20 so his senior officer was probably no more than 25 - practically an old man in those terms. It's been said many times but an awful lot was definitely owed to those young men.
