Here - scroll down a bit.

There's Quinn. There's Saul. There's the old bag-over-the-head routine. It's in Berlin. I am ridiculously excited.

I know I'm a bit of a sap but I was so happy when Carrie and Brodie snuck off to the cabin and had their little happy time in the middle of all the madness. Even though if his wife had popped up on the relationships thread 'DH away for dirty weekend with OW!' I would have been calling him all the bastards under the sun :o

SurlyCue · 15/10/2015 22:05

Grin me to mrsJ

SurlyCue · 15/10/2015 22:07

too

Fiderer · 16/10/2015 10:21

Never got why she was considered so good and they kept her in the CIA. At the start of S1 she was chucked out of Baghdad for visiting the man who told her a US soldier had been turned.

Then she muscled her way back in because of her doubts about Brodie and Saul was partly humouring her and partly believed her instincts were correct.

Which they were except she only joined the dots when she stopped her meds and was in hospital. And when she & Brodie were a-cabinning, she believed it was actually Walker who'd been turned.

Plus, he rumbled her cos she made the reference to Yorkshire Gold tea she knew about from bugging his house.

Towards the end of the last series when she found out that Quinn was going to blow Haqqani up she stood on a car/truck near his house having taken her scarf down. She was only saved by (the lovely) Zaf.

The MN Agency would never have employed her.

SurlyCue · 16/10/2015 11:04

I just watched that episode last night fiderer totally agree with you. She is the worst CIA agent ever! Grin standing up with her blonde hair uncovered amidst an angry mob in the wake of one CIA agent murder and an embassy invasion and then pulling a gun on Haqqani??? The woman has a death wish. She is practically inviting the CIA to take her out.

SurlyCue · 16/10/2015 11:08

Oh btw i now fully understand the deal Dar made with Haqqani. Grin he wasnt really double crossing at all. He was saving Saul's potential career. I'm guessing Saul's reference to Carrie fucking up his bid for director is to do with the end of the last season, she was angry that Saul was in the know/agreement with what Dar did. So maybe she blew the whistle? Went to the press like she threatened?

Duckdeamon · 16/10/2015 11:53

Ooh please expand Sue!

SurlyCue · 16/10/2015 12:11

On which part duck? Grin

Duckdeamon · 16/10/2015 14:14

The bit about Dar doing the deal partly to save Saul's career.

Although wouldn't he have to look out for Saul if he and Saul are bad and in cahoots?

SurlyCue · 16/10/2015 14:58

Ah ok sonin last season when saul was taken as hostage there was a video made, i think it is the one where they put him in front of a camera and he yelled to the americans "dont give it to them, whatever they want dont do it" but there is another one where he had a sack over his head and i cant quite recall what was said on it so could be it. After saul was rescued he was worried about the video being released by haqqani and knew that if it was it would ruin his chance at being director. However Dar met with haqqani and agreed to remove Haqqani from the kill list in return for the video and assurances that there were no copies/it would never be released. Initially Saul was furious that Dar did this but he could see why he did it. Carrie went to Dar's house initially wanting to know where Quinn was and when he refused to put her in touch she threatened to go to the press about Dar having met with Haqqani, she said Saul would go mad and then Dar showed her that Saul was right there with him and knew all about it. carrie left in a fug of jazz music. And that was the end of season 4. So i am wondering if it will come to light that she did go to the press and spill all blowing Saul's chances at director.

Fiderer · 16/10/2015 15:03

She might not have gone to the press but reported it to someone in the agency or govt.

Bloody cheek either way whatever she did since she got Saul captured in the first place after promising to help him get out.

Of course Dar himself might have let it slip to bag himself the top job. But I dislike Carrie more - which is saying something considering Dar is a Prince of Darkness.

Hassled · 16/10/2015 15:14

:o at "Carrie left in a fug of jazz music."

Carrie is often shit at her job, but that's why we're meant to like her, isn't it? Her fallibility makes her human, etc. And there's not a lot she wouldn't do for her cause - a prolonged stay in a mental health institution, Saul telling the hearing that she's bipolar, shagging a vulnerable teenager with a target uncle. You can't knock her dedication.

This is true! She gets an A* for effort.

Good point fiderer Dar could have let it slip himself about Saul. Or Carrie just going straight to the top with it. Although knowing Dark Dar i imagine Carrie would have been carted off to the Psych ward again if she had. He would have covere his ass on that one and made sure there was no evidence, made her out to be crazy again.

I actually think she was right to get Saul recaptured. We couldnt have him die! Getting him captured was the only way to keep him alive and get him home. even though she was ready to blow him to pieces a few episodes earlier

Lweji · 16/10/2015 22:27

KittyOShea

I have just watched episode 2. Well, well...

Fiderer · 17/10/2015 07:30

The deal with Saul/video was planned in Washington though so the Powers That Be must have been aware.

Maybe it was just because Saul was heavily criticized for putting Carrie in charge of the Islamabad station (youngest station chief ever - and with her history) and was therefore in the eyes of e.g. the Senate Intelligence Committee, ultimately to blame for everything that happened.

KittyOShea · 17/10/2015 08:40

Lweji

It was good. Can't wait to be able to talk about it Grin

deadwitchproject · 17/10/2015 10:37

Carrie is certainly dedicated. I wonder if it's because she is v patriotic, loves her country etc. etc. or whether, whatever jobs she's in, she would do it with equal dedication and commitment?

Lweji · 17/10/2015 11:46

I think she loves the adrenaline.

But she is a lot more black and white and righteous than Dar Salieri and Saul, and most CIA people, I think. (except where it relates to sleeping with her male recruits)

deadwitchproject · 18/10/2015 10:48

Yes that is a very odd dichotomy when it comes to rules.
I'm looking forward to catching up on Monday if sick toddlers allow

Duckdeamon · 18/10/2015 10:57

Thanks surleycue and v sorry for getting your name wrong Blush

SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 12:13

Grin thats ok, loads of people get it wrong but im not precious about it.

Hassled · 18/10/2015 19:53

Are we all nearly ready? Working out ways to ensure those pesky kids are out of the way or gagged?

I've been reading about the Homeland is racist grafitti on set. It really is pretty piss-poor that apparently no-one on the Homeland production team can read Arabic.

OP posts:
Hassled · 18/10/2015 19:57

And also upsetting that that's the perception of the show - that they feel it dehumanises the region. It makes me feel bad that I enjoy the show so much - I do hope they turn it around somehow.

OP posts:
SurlyCue · 18/10/2015 20:48

Wow! That has angered me actually. Not one person with Arabic on a show that has been built and enjoyed massive success on the relationship between the US and Arab speaking nations. Almost like the "foreigners" are just background decoration. They might as well have been saying "rhubarb" Hmm how disappointing and quite honestly shocking.

TheSpottedZebra · 18/10/2015 20:55

Homelanders Assemble!

Cannot wait for this. Has been a horrid day with DCs playing up and this is my treat. They're in bed, asleep, and I hope they remain there until the morning!
